Book excerpt: Des perturbations de la perception des durées et des rythmes, ainsi que des difficultés en mathématiques ont été décrites chez les enfants avec dyslexie. Un échantillon de 49 enfants de 9 à 13 ans en école spécialisée pour trouble du langage, a été évalué en juin 2012 avec un nouvel outil d’exploration de la conception du temps (QT3, Labrell et Delatollas 2012) et par des tests neuropsychologiques, orthophoniques et mathématiques (Zareki-R). Le trouble sévère du langage écrit était associé à un trouble du langage oral dans 45% des cas et à une dyscalculie dans 33% des cas. Une comparaison à des enfants témoins de même âge a été réalisée, avant de mettre en évidence des corrélations entre le score total du QT3 et les différentes variables de la population dyslexique. La différence significative entre les deux populations est majeure puisque 68% des enfants avec dyslexie ont un score total au QT3 inférieur au score minimum obtenu par les témoins, et les scores sont significativement inférieurs pour les 8 domaines explorés: orientation, séquences, unités de temps, lecture de l’heure, représentation des durées, cycle de vie, anniversaire et estimation de la durée de l’entretien. L’analyse multivariée montre une forte corrélation (R2=0.63) entre les difficultés de conception du temps, des compétences mathématiques (lecture de chiffres, positionnement de nombre sur une ligne) et la mémoire de travail. Ce modèle soutient l’hypothèse d’un processus commun d’évaluation des quantités (Walsh, 2003) et suggère qu’une ligne orientée du temps se mettrait en place au cours de l’enfance. Son déficit chez les enfants avec dyslexie nécessite d’être pris en compte dans la prise en charge.

Nous avons donc soumis 20 enfants dyslexiques et 104 enfants tout-venant scolarisés du CP au CM2 à un protocole constitué du TKIC, outil d'évaluation de la connaissance du temps (Labrell et coll., 2014), et du QMT, questionnaire sur les mots du temps élaboré par nos soins. Outre l'influence de la classe sur le développement de la temporalité, les résultats montrent que les enfants dyslexiques présentent davantage de difficultés d'appréhension de la notion du temps ainsi qu'une compréhension verbo-temporelle déficitaire, en particulier sur les mots du temps nécessitant un raisonnement. Compte tenu du lien étroit entre le temps et le langage écrit, le QMT une fois étalonné permettrait d'identifier précisément les aspects temporels à prendre en charge.
