Book excerpt: Most spiritual impulses today can be traced back to the nineteenth-century explosion of esotericism. In The Transcendental Universe, one of the most enigmatic and thought-provoking works of the period, a mysterious and unknown figure--C.G. Harrison--examines theosophy from an esoteric Christian perspective. He identifies true gnosis and, with great courage, makes public much esoteric knowledge that had remained hidden within occult orders.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Our very 'I' consciousness is possible because the mineral earth--the first layer of the interior of the Earth--and the other chthonic regions exist. Our human nature is a reflection of the subearthly and supraearthly realms that comprise the macrocosm and the microcosm. 'The true meaning of the microcosm-macrocosm analogy is not that the human being is a little cosmos, but that the cosmos is a big human being.' From this perspective, it makes complete sense that the subterranean realms described by spiritual science live within the deepest realms of our human nature and subconscious life of darker feelings and will. Deep within the human being, they radiate into the shadows of thought. This region is more familiarly known as Hell, Hades, or the Abyss. The subterranean spheres, then, are the Earth's 'dark side'" (from Paul V. O'Leary's introduction). Throughout human history, ancient wisdom and traditional myths have placed human beings between the heavens and the underworld, describing the heavens as the light-filled realm of the gods and the source of goodness, and characterizing the underworld as a demon-filled realm of darkness and the source of evil. Modern science, however, denies the heavens and knows little of the Earth's interior -- even physically -- beyond the first few miles, after which it simply resorts to conjecture based on the extrapolation of existing sensory data. In other words, natural science fails to take into account that the Earth is a living, spiritual being and ignores the presence of its soul-spiritual qualities and influences. To remedy this, during the early twentieth century, Rudolf Steiner researched the psychic, spiritual, and cosmic nature of the Earth's interior. He described how the different layers of the inner Earth affect and interact with human beings living on Earth. More theologically and cosmically, he spoke of the layers of "Hell," through which Jesus Christ traveled in the period between the Crucifixion and the Resurrection, uniting and integrating himself with the Earth and with human destiny. The seven authors in The Inner Life of the Earth approach this difficult and little-discussed topic from different directions. They discuss how the forces emanating from the interior of the Earth affect the weather, our atmosphere, human beings, and how human behavior in turn affects them, showing that earthly and human evolution are a unity and should never be thought of as occurring separately. They also discuss the deep significance of Christ's incarnation, by which he united with the Earth to become the Spirit of the Earth. Without Christ's deed, the Mystery of Golgotha, which reunites cosmic and human evolution with the divine, human beings would be unable to work in freedom with Christ or with Sophia, divine feminine Wisdom, in her form as the Soul of the Earth, to overcome evil and help lift all creation toward goodness and greater human, cosmic, and divine fellowship.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A theme throughout My Universe is that our consciousness exists simultaneously in transcendent and material domains. The gift and power of transcendent consciousness is that we apparently share it with extraterrestrial beings everywhere in the cosmos. Author Vary describes sub-quantum hyperspace phenomena that enable and mediate our communion with extraterrestrials. These reflections prompted Vary to muse that in this sense we are all extraterrestrials Our consciousness transcends the material and elevates and entwines our spirits. My Universe - A Transcendent Reality is a literary work with profound technological and teleological overtones. Vary’s prophetical prose-poesy essays combine physics, metaphysics, cosmology, theology, and philosophy. He offers extraordinary radical ideas that can expand our dominion over nature and promote self-realization. Vary's book differs from others of its genera because it presents a rational basis for understanding the transcendent reality that influences our lives and by which we can enhance our interpersonal relations and infinite potentials. My Universe describes the foundation for perceiving a transcendent reality with quantum phenomena which we may experimentally observe as evidence of the intertwining of the transcendent and material. From this foundation we may realize transcendent communications with extraterrestrial beings. This is because there is a bond between transcendent reality and material reality, between transcendent human consciousness and extraterrestrial reality; which are seemingly separated only by a tenuous hyperspace interface that may be traversed by advanced human techniques. Describes paradigms that enable and implement our transcendent consciousness and our relation to and contact with extraterrestrial worlds and beings. Gives entertaining, provocative clarification of great ideas in cosmology, philosophy, theology, sociology, evolution, metaphysics, and sub-quantum physics. Speaks to all cultures: innovators, writers, poets, artists, scientists: explains the nature of our world, so that we may better apply our infinite potentials. Promotes broadening of one’s spiritual self-realization: challenging, revolutionary, transformational, and inspiring - needed in this crucial juncture of time. Suggest transcendent control of nature through sub-quantum phenomena and harnessing cold fusion power and changing lead to gold, actually, metaphorically. Proclaims people may aspire to a personal paradise: because no matter how bad life on Earth becomes, everyone may prepare for access to a transcendent paradise.

Francois Laruelle is one of the most important French philosophers of the last 20 years, and as his texts have become available in English there has been a rising tide of interest in his work, particularly on the concept of 'Non-Philosophy'. Non-philosophy radically rethinks many of the most cutting-edge concepts such as immanence, pluralism, resistance, science, democracy, decisionism, Marxism, theology and materialism. It also expands our view of what counts as philosophical thought, through art, science and politics, and beyond to fields as varied as film, animality and material objects.

Book excerpt: Critically evaluating and synthesizing all the previous research on the phenomenology of Czech philosopher Jan Patočka, the book brings a new voice into contemporary philosophical discussions. It elucidates the development of Patočka’s phenomenology and offers a critical appropriation of his work by connecting it with non-phenomenological approaches. The first half of the book offers a succinct, and systematizing, overview of Patočka’s phenomenology throughout its development to help readers appreciate the motives behind and grounds for its transformations. The second half systematically explicates, critically examines and creatively develops Patočka’s concept of the movement of existence as the most promising part of his asubjective phenomenology. The book appeals to new readers of Patočka as well as his scholars, and to students and researchers of contemporary philosophy concerned with topics such as embodiment, personal identity, intersubjectivity, sociality, or historicity. By re-assessing Patočka’s philosophy of history and his civilizational analysis, it also helps to better articulate the question of the place of Europe in the post-European world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Affectivity and the Social Bond offers a fresh and original perspective on the relationship between affectivity and transcendence in nineteenth and twentieth century French social theory. Engaging in a conceptual analysis of the works of Comte, Durkheim, Bataille and Girard, this book exposes a major transformation brought about by the sociological gaze in understandings of affectivity and its relationship to both sociality and transcendence in nineteenth century social thought: the ambivalence between the transcendence of the social and the immanence of affective experience. Revealing the manner in which questions of violence and economy are intertwined in the sociological analysis of affectivity, Affectivity and the Social Bond reflects upon the problem of controlling affectivity, alongside the political implications and possible dangers of a sociological model which seeks the roots of the social bond first and foremost in the affective realm. A rigorous engagement with the classics of French social theory, their treatment of human affectivity and its relationship to social integration and regulation, this book will appeal not only to sociologists and social theorists, but also to those with interests in social and political philosophy and the history of ideas.
