Download or read book Training Teachers of Chinese in Australia written by Chen Shen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-10-28 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chinese language, the first language spoken and used by the largest population in the world, has witnessed a significant global increase. Chinese as a Second Language (CSL) has thus received unprecedented attention, and teaching and learning of CSL have transcended the national boundary. This book reports a case study of training teachers of CSL in Australia with a significant implication to the western English-speaking countries such as Canada, New Zealand, the UK and the USA. The book is unique in several ways. On a theoretical level, the book analyses knowledge-based and competence-based teacher education, provides an in-depth examination of post-method pedagogy and deconstructs traditional aspects of second language teacher education, making a case for the new concept of "three dimensions". On a practical level, the Australian-based case study employs qualitative methods to gather the feedback from teacher educators, teacher trainees and students who are undergoing CSL training, and further reports on studies on CSL teaching practicum in local schools and abroad. Training Teachers of Chinese in Australia is a book for established scholars, researchers, educators, and research higher degree students who are interested in teacher education, second and foreign language education and Chinese as a second language (CSL).

Book Synopsis Australian Vocational Education & Training. South Australia by :
Download or read book Australian Vocational Education & Training. South Australia written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study examined the publicly-funded vocational education and training (VET) system in South Australia (SA) in 1997. Background information indicated SA is a geographically large state with a relatively small population that is older compared to the rest of Australia, with 14 percent aged over 65 compared with 12 percent nationally. Findings were that SA accounts for about 8 percent of the Australian population, 10 percent of publicly-funded VET students, and about 8 percent of apprentices and trainees. Of the population aged 15-64 years, 11.6 percent undertook some kind of VET, above the national average of 10.5 percent. SA has the highest proportion of female students with 53 percent, well above the national average of 48.1 percent. Female VET students had a slightly higher module completion rate. Technical and further education (TAFE) qualifications increased the chances of finding work, and more than one quarter of all TAFE graduates named "to get a job" their main reason for undertaking study. Manufacturing, construction, and retail industries accounted for nearly three quarters of all apprenticeships and traineeships in SA. Employers cited these three areas of change as most likely to affect future training needs: advancing technology and automation, the need for workers to be more qualified or skilled, and government policies and legislation. SA students and employers were generally satisfied with VET provision. (YLB)
