Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Layered with physical, emotional, and relational tension, Through Blurred Vision brings forth the life of a young man that was given a diagnosis that appears in 0.0001% of births. As a result, Kurt Pangborn’s life was encompassed in darkness. Yet despite the daunting realty of this diagnosis’ limitations, Pangborn sought the true light of life in his darkness, and found a message that extends past human reason. Kurt Pangborn’s Through Blurred Vision inspires readers to turn their pain into praise and apply the “Three P’s” of higher living. Residing in a world that is broken and filled with trials, Pangborn’s writing encourages others to seek God’s guidance—because He wants your life to rise above the inequity and to magnify his glory. Mankind’s greatest problem is separation from Christ, which Pangborn uniquely presents in Through Blurred Vision as the gospel and game plan for every man, women, son, and daughter.

Book excerpt: The ability to see deeply affects how human beings perceive and interpret the world around them. For most people, eyesight is part of everyday communication, social activities, educational and professional pursuits, the care of others, and the maintenance of personal health, independence, and mobility. Functioning eyes and vision system can reduce an adult's risk of chronic health conditions, death, falls and injuries, social isolation, depression, and other psychological problems. In children, properly maintained eye and vision health contributes to a child's social development, academic achievement, and better health across the lifespan. The public generally recognizes its reliance on sight and fears its loss, but emphasis on eye and vision health, in general, has not been integrated into daily life to the same extent as other health promotion activities, such as teeth brushing; hand washing; physical and mental exercise; and various injury prevention behaviors. A larger population health approach is needed to engage a wide range of stakeholders in coordinated efforts that can sustain the scope of behavior change. The shaping of socioeconomic environments can eventually lead to new social norms that promote eye and vision health. Making Eye Health a Population Health Imperative: Vision for Tomorrow proposes a new population-centered framework to guide action and coordination among various, and sometimes competing, stakeholders in pursuit of improved eye and vision health and health equity in the United States. Building on the momentum of previous public health efforts, this report also introduces a model for action that highlights different levels of prevention activities across a range of stakeholders and provides specific examples of how population health strategies can be translated into cohesive areas for action at federal, state, and local levels.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A holistic guide to improving one’s vision both physically and spiritually • Explains how blurred vision is a reflection of other imbalances in the body, mind, and spirit • Offers natural methods for improvement of poor eyesight and stress-related difficulties, including dyslexia and ADHD • Combines the core values of the Bates method of natural vision improvement and Taoism Fewer than three percent of children in North America are born with visual defects, yet as they become adults nearly two thirds will become reliant on prescription lenses to see clearly. Virtually nonexistent in pre-industrialized cultures, this epidemic of blurred vision can be traced to mental, physical, and spiritual imbalances in modern society. The traditional “quick fixes” of eyeglasses and contact lenses only serve to cover the true cause of blurred vision while increasing eye-strain, and often progressively worsen eyesight as the eyes become trained to work within the confines of the corrective lenses. The advent of refractive surgery carries even more serious risks. In Restoring Your Eyesight, Doug Marsh offers a natural alternative that shows readers how to improve their eyesight by taking conscious control of their vision health. He combines proven methods pioneered a century ago by eye doctor William Bates with the ancient Chinese wisdom of Taoism. Marsh describes how vision goes deeper than the eyes and optic nerves, extending well into the layers of the mind, emotions, and spirit. Eyesight difficulties are often connected to behavioral and stress-related syndromes, such as dyslexia, ADHD, stuttering, TMJ, and anxiety disorders. He draws upon the core values of the Bates method and Taoism--rhythm, softness, return, balance, and wholeness--to provide guidelines for a holistic healing of outer and inner vision.

Book excerpt: Let’s be honest, living a godly life here on earth can be difficult. We live in a world that is fallen and wants little to do with God, so being a follower of Christ and living a godly life is a constant struggle. And unfortunately many times we make it even tougher. We as followers of Christ allow the perspectives and views of this world to infiltrate our way of thinking. This causes an even bigger struggle, because the world’s point of view is opposite of God's. As followers of Christ, we must do just that, follow Christ. In order to truly live a godly life, we must see and think about things from God's point of view, not the world’s. How we worship, pray, forgive, and relate to others, both inside and outside the church, are affected by the points of view by which we choose to live our lives. When we try to live for God using the world's perspectives, we have blurred vision. We must be transformed in how we think and view things, so that our lives are in line with God's point of view. Only then will we be able to truly live a godly life.

Yet that is exactly what is happening with Vertical Heterophoria (VH), a visual condition where there is a slight vertical image misalignment which causes headaches, dizziness, anxiety, neck pain and reading difficulties. Using techniques developed by Dr. Debby Feinberg, patients are fit with prism eyeglass lenses that realign the images, resulting (on average) in an 80% reduction of symptoms. This book contains the stories of those suffering from VH, their difficult journey through life and the medical system, and their recovery and return to health using just a simple pair of properly prescribed prism lenses."Who, indeed, could have supposed that a mere ocular defect could have given rise to so serious a train of evils...and who that had not seen it, could believe that the correction by glasses of the eye trouble could have given a relief so speedy and so perfect that the patient described it as a miracle?" Book excerpt: Diagnosing a patient with unexplained ocular pain can be time-consuming and difficult, but taking an anatomic approach and excluding causes along the way can aid in the diagnosis. This book provides the reader with a systematic evaluation plan for these cases, written and edited by leaders in the field. A Case-Based Guide to Eye Pain is written for both ophthalmologists and neuro-ophthalmologists since there are not enough neuro-ophthalmologists to treat the number of patients with unexplained ocular pain and general ophthalmologists are having to take on the diagnosis and treatment of these patients. Organized in an easy-to-use manner, each case covers the following key elements: the chief complaint, history of the present illness, the examination, assessment and plan, follow-up, alternate perspective, summary points, and key references. Tables are also available to help the reader rapidly sort through cases that may apply to a sign, symptom, historical feature, diagnostic test or treatment option. This allows the practitioner who has a patient with a particular concern to use the tables to identify a case discussion. Additionally, A Case-based Guide to Eye Pain includes an appendices with the general approach to eye pain and anatomy of the trigeminal pathway and its relation to eye pain.

She couldn’t help herself. “Are you invading earth?” “Are you kidding? Do you know how much that would cost?” “Then what are you doing here?” “We found you after you activated the camera on the satellite and were impressed by the other stuff you did to hide your tracks. Easy for us, but we all thought it was very cool. For an Earth human, anyway.” “You don’t talk like an alien.” “How many do you know?” asked Kylie. Polly couldn’t argue with that. “Good point.” When Polly Hart agrees to swap places with a girl from another planet, she has no idea that this makes her a fugitive in the fabulous universe revealed by her new friend, and now she must outwit the school bully, a weird teacher and an interstellar hit squad to survive.
