Book excerpt: Excerpt from The War-Time Organization of Illinois This volume, the fifth in the Series, Illinois in the World War, is the work of the War Records Section of the illin0is State Historical Library, which was organized by the Library Board of Trustees in July of 1919 to collect and edit material relating to the part of Illinois in the World War. For this purpose the General Assembly had in June, 1919, _app_ropriated In June, 1921, an additional appropriation of was made for completing the work of col lection and for printing two volumes of resulting material. From July, 1919, to November, 1920, the War Records Section was under the charge of Dr. Wayne E. Stevens, as secretary. Under his guid ance a valuable Collection of materials of all sorts, records of the State Council of Defense, documents, books, newspapers, posters, etc., etc., was made and the beginnings of publication were outlined. Miss Marguerite E. Jenison succeeded Dr. Stevens upon his resignation, in the course of, the first six months of' 1921 completed the task of collecting material and since then has been engaged with a staff of assistants in the preparation of the succeeding volumes of the series.
