Eduardo del Toro is dead. Unsurprising, to those who knew him simply as the head of one of the West Coast's most powerful criminal organisations, but absolutely shocking to his lieutenants and his son, Leto - who knew he was also a vampire! As the killer used wooden bullets, it's obvious he or she knew the truth too...Now Leto, a former priest thrust into the world of organised crime, must find the killer, and fast - before someone takes a bite out of him! Warning: Adults Only!

Book excerpt: Morganville is a quiet college town where humans and vampires live in relative peace. But lately a great deal of blood is being spilt . . . Having survived a number of adventures with her new night-dwelling friends, college student Claire Danvers has come to realise that for the most part, the undead just want to get on with their lives. But someone else wants them to get ready to rumble. There's a new extreme sport being broadcast over the Internet: bare-knuckle fights pitting captured vampires against one another – or, worse, against humans. Claire soon discovers that what started as an online brawl will soon threaten everyone in Morganville. And if they want to survive, they'll have to do a lot more than fight . . . 'Thrilling, sexy, and funny! These books are addictive. One of my very favourite vampire series.' Richelle Mead, author of the international bestselling Vampire Academy series.

Food whore (n.) A person who will do anythingfor food. When Tia Monroe moves to New York City, she plans to put herself on the culinary map in no time. But after a coveted internship goes up in smoke, Tia’s suddenly just another young food lover in the big city. But when Michael Saltz, a legendary New York Times restaurant critic, lets Tia in on a career-ending secret—that he’s lost his sense of taste—everything changes. Now he wants Tia to serve as his palate, ghostwriting his reviews. In return he promises her lavish meals, a bottomless cache of designer clothing, and the opportunity of a lifetime. Out of prospects and determined to make it, Tia agrees. Within weeks, Tia’s world transforms into one of luxury: four-star dinners, sexy celebrity chefs, and an unlimited expense account at Bergdorf Goodman. Tia loves every minute of it…until she sees her words in print and Michael Saltz taking all the credit. As her secret identity begins to crumble and the veneer of extravagance wears thin, Tia is forced to confront what it means to truly succeed—and how far she’s willing to go to get there.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Government of Beans is about the rough edges of environmental regulation, where tenuous state power and blunt governmental instruments encounter ecological destruction and social injustice. At the turn of the twenty-first century, Paraguay was undergoing dramatic economic, political, and environmental change due to a boom in the global demand for soybeans. Although the country's massive new soy monocrop brought wealth, it also brought deforestation, biodiversity loss, rising inequality, and violence. Kregg Hetherington traces well-meaning attempts by bureaucrats and activists to regulate the destructive force of monocrops that resulted in the discovery that the tools of modern government are at best inadequate to deal with the complex harms of modern agriculture and at worst exacerbate them. The book simultaneously tells a local story of people, plants, and government; a regional story of the rise and fall of Latin America's new left; and a story of the Anthropocene writ large, about the long-term, paradoxical consequences of destroying ecosystems in the name of human welfare.

Book excerpt: "Blood may be thicker than water, but it isn't thicker than money. That's something the Del Toros--the vampire clan that runs organized crime in Miami--know all too well. Beautiful, rich and immortal, these bloodsuckers are masters of backstabbing and infighting-- and when their patriarch Eduardo is killed, the fangs really come out. Youngest son Leto vowed to leave his family's sins behind when he became a priest, and his ambitious sister Risa would be happy to keep it that way. But Eduardo's will names Leto as his successor, leaving Daddy's little girl on the sidelines and putting Leto's faith to the test. But while faith might move mountains, it won't necessarily move hearts and minds--and before this story is finished, Leto and Risa will find out more about the limits of power, faith and appetite than they ever wanted to know."--P.4 cover.

It seems that an organization called the Daylight Foundation has offered the population of Morganville something they've never had: hope of a vampire-free future. And while it sounds like salvation-even for the vampires themselves-the truth is far more sinister and deadly. Now, Claire, Shane and Eve need to find a way to break their friends out of Daylighter custody, before the vampires of Morganville meet their untimely end.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You are a loving person, and you love kids. But what is love, exactly, by your definition? Have you ever really thought about it? Is love simply some warm “fuzzy” that you’ve been taught to express with three little words? Or is it much more than that? And how would you describe it? Have you explored any of the beliefs, the rote script comments, the auto-responses, the unquestioned systems, all the “that’s just the way it is” programs, the generational patterns, the inconsistent behaviors that send mixed messages, and the copy-and-paste words and attitudes that you inadvertently share with kids? And have you intentionally worked to raise the frequency of your own lovelight, revealing and healing any parts of you that may affect the energy, and thus, the growth, brilliance and resilience of children in your care? Come. Let’s explore and train our hearts to see through the lens of love to make the necessary adjustments to our programming. Let’s shine the light on and disrupt the old ways of thinking and behaving that have created the undesirable, inequitable energies of the collective consciousness and the current systems. With that light, we can heal, change, grow and create a brighter, new environment for the kids, with the kids, preserving and maintaining the strength of our inherent lovelights.

Subcommittee on Elementary, Secondary, and Vocational Education and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 640 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: In 1981, the USDA proposed changes in meal pattern requirements (in effect since 1946) for the school lunch program. The regulations proposed a decrease in: the amount of protein-rich foods (to one and one/half ounces); fruits or vegetables (to one/half cup); bread (to 1 serving); and milk (to 6 ounces for elementary children). The wisdom of the proposal was questioned by subcommittee Chairman Perkins who believes it will deprive children of nutrients needed for growth, health, and well-being. Interested parties voiced their concerns either for or against the proposals. Statements were received from advocacy groups, food service directors, USDA officials, nutrition experts, parents, and professional organizations. Food consumption surveys, food and nutrition intake studies, and studies of foods eaten away from home were cited. (kbc).
