Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agatha Christie's famous detective, Miss Marple has amazed everyone with her super ability to solve murders. Why hasn't any killer tried to knock her off when they learn she is on the case? In this satire a Miss Marble, quite different from Miss Marple, is to be murdered by a group of people out for revenge. A perfect settiing is a 500 year anniversary celebration of a castle located in Northern England. Bumbles, fumbles and outright stupidity foil attempts to kill her. Comic satire. Lisa Binion Author Story & My Thoughts: I grew up reading Agatha Christie's mysteries. I own all of them, and each one has been read several times. No criminal could get away with any wrongdoing if Miss Marple happened to be in the vicinity. With her long history of solving crime, have you ever wondered why no criminal ever tried to do away with her? Twelve Days of Christmas Mayhem and Murder is a mystery-comedy spoof in which Miss Marple is known as the hilarious Miss Marble. In this story, someone is trying to do away with her so she will no longer stick her nose where criminals feel it doesn't belong. Cheatham castle in northern England provides the setting for this story during a brutal British winter and the Christmas season. A 500-year anniversary is seen as a time to draw attention to the castle and prepare to turn it into a tourist magnet. During this celebration, the castle is full of guests and one or more of these guests wants snoopy old Miss Marble dead. Others among the visitors do not want her to stay alive. There are enough red herrings, attacks, narrow escapes, and murders to satisfy any fan of mystery fiction. I don't believe that there will ever be another Agatha Christie, but Aaron Knight has successfully written a satisfying spoof of one of the brilliant detectives she created. If you are a fan of Miss Marple stories, you might get a kick out of seeing her in a different light. I believe that even Agatha Christie herself would get a kick out of this spoof of one of her famous detectives.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A timeless, utterly charming Christmas fable, beautifully illustrated and destined to become a classic When Paul Auster was asked by The New York Times to write a Christmas story for the Op-Ed page, the result, "Auggie Wren's Christmas Story," led to Auster's collaboration on a film adaptation, Smoke. Now the story has found yet another life in this enchanting illustrated edition with Argentine artist Isol. It begins with a writer's dilemma: he's been asked by The New York Times to write a story that will appear in the paper on Christmas morning. The writer agrees, but he has a problem: How to write an unsentimental Christmas story? He unburdens himself to his friend at his local cigar shop, a colorful character named Auggie Wren. "A Christmas story? Is that all?" Auggie counters. "If you buy me lunch, my friend, I'll tell you the best Christmas story you ever heard. And I guarantee every word of it is true." And an unconventional story it is, involving a lost wallet, a blind woman, and a Christmas dinner. Everything gets turned upside down. What's stealing? What's giving? What's a lie? What's the truth? It's vintage Auster, and pure pleasure: a truly unsentimental but completely affecting tale.

Book excerpt: This “sweet tale” of a Vermont family’s annual trek to New York City to sell trees is “a cross between It’s a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol” (USA Today). Every holiday season for nearly twenty years, Billy Romp, his wife, and their three children have spent nearly a month living in a tiny camper and selling Christmas trees on Jane Street in New York City. They arrive from Vermont the day after Thanksgiving and leave just in time to make it home for Christmas morning—and for a few weeks they transform a corner of the Big Apple into a Frank Capra-esque small town alive with heartwarming holiday spirit. A lovely, lovingly illustrated little gem of a book, this delightful tenth anniversary edition of a beloved Christmas classic tells the poignant, inspiring story of an unforgettable family that brings the Christmas spirit to life on a street corner in Manhattan and the warm, wide circle of friends who have welcomed them to the neighborhood. Christmas on Jane Street is about the transformative power of love—love of parent and child, of merchant and customer, of stranger and neighbor. The ideal Christmas story, it is about the lasting and profound difference that one person can make to a family and one family can make to a community. “A heartwarming story”—Newsday “A touching tale fragrant with the season . . . a special treat for those who love Christmas trees.” —Tampa Tribune
