Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second edition of this classic reference work has been completely revised and updated, as well as being enlarged by 20% to reflect the latest developments in synthetic organic fluorine chemistry, taking into account new applications in materials science and medicinal chemistry. The new developments in transition-metal-catalyzed methods for the introduction of fluorine and fluorinated groups are discussed. In addition, new chapters have been added on such important applications as organic electronics (OLEDs) and fluorinated dyes. Appendices containing synthetic procedures and conversions round off this comprehensive work. This work is a valuable reference for fluorine chemists that also provides nonspecialists with an introduction to the field. From reviews of the first edition: ''... a well-produced book with attractive graphics, photos and schemes. Throughout the book, coloured electrostatic maps of small organofluorine compounds are used toillustrate charge distributions. These are effective as well as attractive. I would point any organic chemist to this book who wants to learn about and do some fluorine chemistry. It provides uncluttered descriptions and a clear orientation to the literature in this important area of the organic chemistry.'' CHEMBIOCHEM - A European Journal of Chemical Biology

Book Synopsis Comprehensive Organometallic Chemistry II, Volume 7 by : D.F. Schriver
Download or read book Comprehensive Organometallic Chemistry II, Volume 7 written by D.F. Schriver and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-09-10 with total page 1071 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The section devoted to iron in this volume reflects the tremendous progress in the area. Specifically cluster chemistry, ligand transformations and detailed structural results are more prominent in COMC II. The organic chemistry of ruthenium and osmium is an area which has burgeoned during the period since the publication of COMC. This is especially true for the cluster chemistry of these elements, which have provided most of the advances in this important field. Consequently, this volume will include an update (1981-1993) of the chemistry of mono- and bi-nuclear complexes of ruthenium and osmium, with a rather more extensive treatment of tri- and tetra-nuclear complexes. This is because many of the early results in ruthenium and osmium cluster chemistry described in COMC are now much better understood and can thus be placed in a more general context. In the case of complexes containing clusters with five or more metal atoms, the coverage is essentially complete, again because this chemistry has developed during the 1980s.
Book Synopsis Organometallic Syntheses by : R. Bruce King
Download or read book Organometallic Syntheses written by R. Bruce King and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 686 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organometallic Syntheses, Volume 3 focuses on the synthesis of compounds containing carbon-metal bonds, including ligands, compounds, chlorides, and derivatives. The selection first elaborates on bis(cyclopentadienyl) organolanthanide and organoyttrium chloride, methyl, and hydride complexes and base stabilized alkali metal halide adducts of bis (pentamethylcyclopentadienyl) lanthanide chlorides. The text then examines cyclopentadienyl metal carbonyl and nitrosyl derivatives, ferrocenylamine, cobalticinium and rhodicinium salts, and alkyl transition metal derivatives. The publication takes a look at transition metal complexes containing organophosphorus ligands, transition metal derivatives containing chalcogen ligands, and coinage metal derivatives. The text also reviews transition metal organometallic compounds, including compounds of group IA, IIA, IIB, and IVA. The selection is a vital reference for researchers interested in the synthesis of compounds containing carbon-metal bonds.
Book Synopsis Fluorine and Health by : Alain Tressaud
Download or read book Fluorine and Health written by Alain Tressaud and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2008-06-06 with total page 821 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluorine and Health presents a critical multidisciplinary overview on the contribution of fluorinated compounds to resolve the important global issue of medicinal monitoring and health care. The involved subjects are organized in three thematic parts devoted to Molecular Imaging, Biomedical Materials and Pharmaceuticals. Initially the key-position of partially fluorinated low molecular weight compounds labelled either with the natural 19F-isotope for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) or labelled with the radioactive [18F]-isotope for Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is highlighted. Both non-invasive methods belong to the most challenging in vivo imaging techniques in oncology, neurology and in cardiology for the diagnosis of diseases having the highest mortality in the industrialized countries. The manifold facets of fluorinated biomaterials range from inorganic ceramics to perfluorinated organic molecules. Liquid perfluorocarbons are suitable for oxygen transport and as potential respiratory gas carriers, while fluorinated polymers are connected to the pathology of blood vessels. Another important issue concerns the application of highly fluorinated liquids in ophthalmology. Moreover, fluorine is an essential trace element in bone mineral, dentine and tooth enamel and is applied for the prophylaxis and treatment of dental caries. The various origins of human exposure to fluoride species is detailed to promote a better understanding of the effect of fluoride species on living organisms.Medicinally relevant fluorinated molecules and their interactions with native proteins are the main focus of the third part. New molecules fluorinated in strategic position are crucial for the development of pharmaceuticals with desired action and optimal pharmacological profile. Among the hundreds of marketed active drug components there are more than 150 fluorinated compounds. The chapters will illustrate how the presence of fluorine atoms alters properties of bioactive compounds at various biochemical steps, and possibly facilitate its emergence as pharmaceuticals. Finally the synthetic potential of a fluorinase, the first C-F bond forming enzyme, is summarized. - New approach of topics involving chemistry, biology and medicinal techniques - Transdisciplinar papers on fluoride products - Importance of fluoride products in health - Updated data on specific topics
