Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Santa Claus Syndrome By: Michael M. Faniel Sr. Santa Claus: also known as Saint Nicholas, Kris Kringle, Father Christmas, or simply Santa, is a legendary figure originating in Western Christian culture who is said to bring gifts to the homes of well-behaved (“good” or “nice”) children on Christmas Eve (December 24) and the early morning hours of Christmas Day (December 25). The Santa Claus Syndrome explores the impact on children of being lied to about the non-existence of Santa Claus. Through a discussion of the psychological impact, Michael M. Faniel Sr. asserts that there is no reason to lie to young children. With impressionable young minds, lies can negatively affect the human psychic physical development. Faniel suggests these lies contribute to the growing number of people with depression, anxiety, and countless other mental and emotional disorders. Faniel’s motivation for this book is his personal experience with sociocultural accepted practices. The book explores the traumatic effects of lies on a person’s world views. While all experiences can affect human behavior patterns, it is the traumatic ones that create trust issues, antisocial patterns, and a reliance on these learned patterns as lifelong practices. The Santa Claus Syndrome is a theoretical examination of these experiences and subsequent possible problems associated with mental and emotional degenerate conditions.

Book excerpt: A Holiday Hazing, Santa Clause Syndrome is a presentation of one of the most devastating psychological afflictions in the postmodern era, Santa Clause Syndrome. The book explores the history of and relationship between Passover and Christmas. If you don't think Santa Clause Syndrome exists, it's possible you have it. No one has dissected the results of the history of Passover and Christmas like this in two thousand years. Please read the first part of introduction and decide if you're ready for the rest. It is a unique exploration of history and psychology, complete with a laugh or two. Ethan Indigo believes this piece might best be described by others because of its provocative subject matter. Please share a review or your thoughts, feelings and perhaps your own experiences with Santa Clause Syndrome.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, there have been sporadic reports in the lay press of individuals stuck in chimneys primarily during burglary attempts. Most of these individuals suffered from suffocation or soot inhalation. Because of the similarities between this form of breaking and entering and Santa Claus' traditional entrance into homes on Christmas Eve, we define the "Santa Claus Syndrome" as postural (positional) asphyxia, inhalational injuries and body burns, and/or complications related to compartment syndrome due to entrapment in chimneys. We report a case of a man who became trapped in a chimney during a burglary attempt and died a delayed death due to postural asphyxia associated with inhalational and burn injuries and anterior compartment syndrome. An analysis of this unusual case is presented. Exhaustional and postural asphyxia, compartment syndromes, and confined space-hypoxia syndrome are also discussed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For hundreds of years, the story of Santa Claus and his reindeer have endeared many people the world over. Parents and children alike have loved the story. But for all my cognitive years, I have had trouble accepting some parts of the story. You see, as I grew older and wiser, I started doubting some of the storylines. For instance, I questioned how was it that Santa could put all those gifts of all the children of the world into that tiny sleigh? Why, the weight of the gifts alone would crush the sleigh to pulp! Or, how can a reindeer fly? Questions like that, and others, bothered me no end. I needed answers. So, in my search for the answers to my questions, I would probe my parents to explain to me just how could Santa Claus do things that ordinary people like you and me could not do? Like slide down chimneys without getting dirty? But alas, my curiosity was never quelled by their feeble answers . So I was left to myself to find my own answers, or forever go unsatisfied in life This is why, with great relief, I was informed of a certain document that was being kept by the NorthPole Times that contained the answers to all my boyhood questions, regarding this jolly old, red suited elf I cannot reveal my source of information, so don't ask for names. Suffice it to say that the information was true, and I was able to get hold of this paper. So now, with permission from all parties involved, I pass on to you, the world, the information you need to answer the tough questions that YOUR children will be asking of you. Now without further delay, reprinted in its entirety, is the interview of "Santa Claus" and "Zeke" the North Pole Times reporter.

Book excerpt: A “poignant” collection of real letters sent to Santa Claus—a town in Indiana—from the 1930s to the twenty-first century, from both children and adults (The New York Times). For countless Christmases, children—and sometimes adults—have stuffed their dreams, wishes, and promises into envelopes. Over many decades, millions of these letters have poured into Santa Claus, Indiana. Arriving from all corners of the globe, the letters ask for toys, family reunions, snow, and help for the needy—sometimes the needy being the writers themselves. They are candid, heartfelt, and often blunt. Many children wonder how Santa gets into their chimneyless homes. One child reminds Santa that she has not hit her brothers over 1,350 times that year, and another respectfully requests two million dollars in “cold cash.” One child hopes to make his life better with a time machine, an adult woman asks for a man, and one miscreant actually threatens Santa’s reindeer! Containing more than 250 actual letters and envelopes from the naughty and nice reaching back to the 1930s, this moving book will touch hearts and bring back memories of a time in our lives when the man with a white beard and a red suit held out the hope that our wishes might come true. “Often very affecting . . . also offers an unusual window into American history.” —Library Journal “The letters . . . are alternately silly and somber, hilarious and heartfelt.” —The Weekly Standard
