The sacred way of the heart, he tells her, is a spiritual journey that must be undergone by anyone who aspires to be a Wanderer--a person who transcends illusion and embraces primal reality, unmediated by religious doctrine or intellectual constructs. The woman asks him to show her how to release herself from the emotional pain that paralyzes her, and gradually, over a series of meetings, Chamau reveals to her the secret of reconnecting with the spirits of the ancestors and of Pachamama, Mother Earth. Presented as a series of conversations, Chamalu encompasses teachings that can be lived and experienced by anyone who truly desires to learn. Simply told in language that appeals directly to the heart, Chamalu allows the reader to experience Andean shamanic teachings based on the ancient Inca heritage of wisdom, inner power, simplicity, and joy.

Book excerpt: At a time in history when fear of ‘the other’ has become commonplace, The Broken Silence is a timely book that shows a glimpse in the timeline of how Islam has been marginalized in society. It examines the impacts of economic sanctions on vulnerable populations and opens with an important essay by the author’s daughter, published in the Huffington Post, that paints a bleak picture of the human costs of years of international sanctions against Iraq, including the deaths of over half a million children as reported by the United Nations. Her argument that desperate young people are driven to commit heinous acts of terror not out of religious fervour but as misguided reactions to injustices, is to this day, little recognized by politicians or the media. This powerful memoir explores the human cost of sanctions and the author’s tireless efforts over many years to promote awareness and activism to have those sanctions lifted. Mohammed Javed’s childhood and youth experiences instilled in him a commitment to compassion and caring. As the founder of I.LEAD (Islam. Learn. Engage. Achieve. Develop.), Mr. Javed brought together numerous groups and organizations to hold conferences to explore the many questions facing Muslims in the National Capital Region and beyond. Earlier, while living in Halifax, he became a regularly published op-ed writer. He also helped motivate Svend Robinson, then a Member of Parliament, to embrace the cause of lifting sanctions, and wrote many letters to the prime minister, cabinet ministers and interested MPs. Told with frank clarity and rounded out with copies of letters, emails, and articles, The Broken Silence explores the real causes of terrorism and its remedies. It also seeks to help non-Muslims to better understand this ancient religion and calls out to Muslims to explore the real values of Islam and regain its true spirit. Above all, it is a call for all ethnicities and religions to work collectively for a more peaceful, compassionate, and caring world for our children and grandchildren. Book excerpt: The Andean Cosmovision is a way of perceiving and interacting with reality that has its roots in the traditional, indigenous culture of the high Andes. It is fundamentally different than the Western worldview. This Cosmovision is not a set of concepts or beliefs. It cannot be described or encompassed by words. It can, however, be experienced and it can be explored. This is a guidebook for exploring the Andean Cosmovision. The Cosmovision provides a path for discovering profound aspects of ourselves and the Cosmos. It is a path with a heart. It nourishes a more loving and mutually supportive relationship between ourselves and nature and the Cosmos. In addition to being personally significant, this relationship may be exactly what our species needs to start heading toward a future of greater beauty and greater health for the planet. For this path you don't need a guru. You need the Pachamama (the great being who is the mother earth); you need the Apus (the great beings who are the majestic mountain peaks); you need the stars, the wind, the trees, the rivers, the sun. This book will open the door to new territory and give you a map and some advice. It will then be up to you to determine whether what you find touches you deeply.

Book excerpt: When we allow ourselves to embrace both ordinary and extraordinary experiences, we can feel the divine anywhere. No matter where we are—on a walk in the woods, in a sacred building, or in a dusty refugee camp—signs of love abound. There is no secret formula to experiencing the sacred in our lives, it just takes practice and practicality. You’re invited to search this path with entrepreneur Becca Stevens as she explores what it means to be practically divine. Woven throughout the narrative are poetry and rants, as well as ruminations on her mother’s wit, wisdom, and passion. In Practically Divine, Becca shares how to live a life that’s practically divine by: Redefining old lies and stories, to learn from the past Appreciating the gifts that come from imperfections or trauma Using creativity to spark new revolutions Accepting the chaos of the unknown before us with courage Sharing in a feast of love, knowing there’s enough mercy and forgiveness Embracing the practically divine compels us to do something, anything, to share in the feast of love together. When we start from wherever we are, we can recognize the potential for humor, wonder, and freedom. Practically Divine teaches you to use your senses to transform information into holy compassion. When we open our hearts to it, we can experience the divine anywhere - like sacred breadcrumbs marking our path.

Book excerpt: The teachings and practices in this book are a guide into a very easy and safe journey into the magical, transcendental and Spiritual meaning and realization of a more complete, healthy and satisfying life, as well as freedom from inner and outer restrictions. The book spares the need of retiring to the mountains for prolonged retreats, or years of meditations in the lotus posture, or hours of walking or acting in mindfulness. It will also spare you from any danger through the misuse of "master plants" or the need to spend thousands of dollars travelling to strange, faraway places, in the jungle, in search for a real native shaman, or a Priest of Enlightenment. The book contains the "Sacred Wisdom of the Andes" as was given early in the life of the author, Dr. Rod Fuentes, by Don Joaquín, a master of ancient wisdom and holder of the spiritual power of the Andes Mountains, in Rari, Chile. Don Joaquín was an expert in the "creation of realities" and the use of the "haway," which in the Quechua language means "offerings" for the Sacred Spirits of the mountains and to Mother Pachamama, the feminine aspect of the Supreme Being, and the creator and sustainer of the Universe. Rod was initiated by Don Joaquín into the Andean Codes -the Sacred Wisdom of the Andes- which is based on the 4 levels of Consciousness that, when they are taught, all human beings have the skill to naturally develop. These Andean Codes are the keys to a complete life of success and bliss and are the millenarian quantum teachings that can be used to create our own outer reality. The author of this book became a disciple of this legendary master and "guardian of wisdom" until his death in 1982. The most essential teachings, that he received from Don Joaquín, are contained in this extraordinary book.A time will come for humanity, as said many times by Don Joaquín, when this sacred knowledge of the Andes must be transmitted to the greatest number of human beings, without distinction, throughout the world. This book, "From Ayahuasca To Andean Gratitude," shows everyone how to get lasting results in your life through very easy and quick methods that require only a few minutes each day of your time.

Book excerpt: This newly revised edition of the Wall Street Journal bestseller One Spirit Medicine offers an accessible guide to an ancient practice for healing and transformation--including new, cutting-edge science, recipes, and a 7-day Grow a New Body meal plan! Using the principles and practices in this book, you can feel better in a few days, begin to clear your mind and heal your brain in a week, and in six weeks be on your way to growing a new body--one that heals rapidly, retains its youthful vitality, and keeps you connected to Spirit, to the earth, and to a renewed sense of purpose in your life. Our minds, our emotions, our relationships, and our bodies are out of kilter. We know it, but we tend to ignore it until something brings us up short--a worrying diagnosis, a broken relationship, or simply an inability to function harmoniously in everyday life. When things are a little off, we read a self-help book. When they're really bad, we bring in oncologists to address cancer, neurologists to repair the brain, psychologists to help us understand our family of origin. This fragmented approach to health is merely a stopgap. To truly heal, we need to return to the original recipe for wellness discovered by shamans millennia ago. Drawing on more than 25 years of experience as a medical anthropologist--as well as his own journey back from the edge of death--acclaimed shamanic teacher Alberto Villoldo shows you how to detoxify the brain and gut with superfoods; use techniques for working with our luminous energy fields to heal your body; and follow the ancient path of the medicine wheel to shed disempowering stories from the past and pave the way for rebirth.

Book excerpt: In high-Andean Peru, Rapaz village maintains a temple to mountain beings who command water and weather. By examining the ritual practices and belief systems of an Andean community, this book provides students with rich understandings of unfamiliar religious experiences and delivers theories of religion from the realm of abstraction. From core field encounters, each chapter guides readers outward in a different theoretical direction, successively exploring the main paths in the anthropology of religion. As well as addressing classical approaches in the anthropology of religion to rural modernity, Salomon engages with newer currents such as cognitive-evolution models, power-oriented critiques, the ontological reworking of relativism, and the "new materialism" in the context of a deep-rooted Andean ethos. He reflects on central questions such as: Why does sacred ritualism seem almost universal? Is it seated in social power, human psychology, symbolic meanings, or cultural logics? Are varied theories compatible? Is "religion" still a tenable category in the post-colonial world? At the Mountains’ Altar is a valuable resource for students taking courses on the anthropology of religion, Andean cultures, Latin American ethnography, religious studies, and indigenous peoples of the Americas.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contained within the pages of this book are the sacred teachings and guiding principles the Pachakuti Mesa Shamanic Tradition from Peru. Founded by kamasqa curandero don Oscar Miro-Quesada from Lima, Peru, this traditional wisdom is expressed through the ceremonial use of a complex altar system, known as a Pachakuti Mesa. This book functions as a compendium of this altar's ceremonial use amidst the backdrop of Peru's rich pre-Columbian history, cosmology, mythology, and centuries of healing artistry. The Pachakuti Mesa tradition is a living, breathing, evolving, holistic spiritual practice that is designed to build bridges between cultures, while honoring the universal wisdom of nature itself. This book seeks to unveil the methodology of this particular form of tribal shamanic practice in a way that is accessible to the western aspirant by offering parallels and cultural comparisons as well as references from leading scholars in the field of anthropology. Ultimately this book is designed to provide a "behind the scenes" account of the ritual practices and teachings of this tradition, while also offering the reader practical and pragmatic tools for applying this traditional wisdom to one's modern day life. Note: This book (originally published in 2002) was written over the course of four years while immersed in a direct shamanic apprenticeship with renowned Kamasqa Curandero don Oscar Miro-Quesada from Lima, Peru. This current version has been recently updated and fully revised (2017) to include over 100 pages of new information, photos, diagrams, and illustrations.
