Book excerpt: The epic fantasy series for those that enjoy Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Dungeons and Dragons, and Game of Thrones. Four normal modern day teenagers are plunged into a world they thought only existed in novels and film. They are whisked away to a magical land where dragons roam the skies, orcs and hobgoblins terrorize weary travelers, dark magic consumes kingdoms, and where unicorns prance through the forest. It is a world where man is just one race, joining other races such as elves, trolls, dwarves, changelings, and the dreaded creatures who steal the night. This is not a typical "dungeons and dragons" world, for this world follows the adventures of these wayward teens into the unknown as we watch the world unfold in front of their (and our) eyes. It was a world of magic, of enchantment, of adventure and of death. THIS ISSUE: "Storm Warning" - Griff and Kurr see the dragonworm, and attack. As Alex tries to open a giant door he finds, Kad flies up and translates some of the writings on the archway. It is a warning of the Daemonstorm that would be unleashed if the door is opened. Diggorus tells Alex he should leave it alone: warnings are put there for a purpose. A Caliber Comics release.

Book Synopsis Much More Than a Game by : Robert F. Burk
Download or read book Much More Than a Game written by Robert F. Burk and published by Univ of North Carolina Press. This book was released on 2003-01-14 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To most Americans, baseball is just a sport; but to those who own baseball teams--and those who play on them--our national pastime is much more than a game. In this book, Robert Burk traces the turbulent labor history of American baseball since 1921. His comprehensive, readable account details the many battles between owners and players that irrevocably altered the business of baseball. During what Burk calls baseball's "paternalistic era," from 1921 to the early 1960s, the sport's management rigidly maintained a system of racial segregation, established a network of southern-based farm teams that served as a captive source of cheap replacement labor, and crushed any attempts by players to create collective bargaining institutions. In the 1960s, however, the paternal order crumbled, eroded in part by the civil rights movement and the competition of television. As a consequence, in the "inflationary era" that followed, both players and umpires established effective unions that successfully pressed for higher pay, pensions, and greater occupational mobility--and then fought increasingly bitter struggles to hold on to these hard-won gains.
Book Synopsis A Study of the Geography of 1 Enoch 17-19 by : Coblentz Bautch
Download or read book A Study of the Geography of 1 Enoch 17-19 written by Coblentz Bautch and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2003-11-01 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Study of the Geography of 1 Enoch 17-19 examines the travels of the patriarch Enoch who is given a guided tour of extraordinary and at times terrifying places located throughout the cosmos. Coblentz Bautch clarifies the text of 1 Enoch 17-19 by explaining how the sites described relate to one another geographically and by reconstructing the mental map of the geography that lies behind the textual descriptions. Especially provocative is the consideration of sources from the ancient Near East, Hebrew Bible and the world of Hellenistic Judaism that may have informed the world view of 1 Enoch 17-19 and parallel traditions. Through this study an important facet of apocalypses is illumined: their portrayal of geography and sacred space.
Book Synopsis New Collegeville Bible Commentary: New Testament by : Daniel Durken
Download or read book New Collegeville Bible Commentary: New Testament written by Daniel Durken and published by Liturgical Press. This book was released on 2016-12-01 with total page 916 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concise and accessible, this one-volume edition of the New Collegeville Bible Commentary: New Testament allows readers to explore any or all of the books with just one resource alongside their Bibles. The individual commentaries collected here are written by respected scholars, and they break open the biblical texts in a lively fashion. Readers will be able to engage Scripture more deeply and reflect on its meanings, nuances, and imperatives for living a Christian life in the twenty-first century. Continuing Liturgical Press's long tradition of publishing biblical scholarship and interpretation, this commentary also answers the Second Vatican Council's call to make access to Scripture "open wide to the Christian faithful." Daniel Durken, OSB, is a Benedictine monk and priest of Saint John's Abbey. He taught Scripture and speech classes at Saint John's University for almost five decades and served as director of Liturgical Press from 1978-88. He still writes homily hints and daily reflections for the Loose-Leaf Lectionary and is the founding editor of Abbey Banner, the magazine for the relatives, friends, and oblates of the monastic community.

Book Synopsis Statehood Before and Beyond Ethnicity by : Linas Eriksonas
Download or read book Statehood Before and Beyond Ethnicity written by Linas Eriksonas and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2005 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today's world is a world of nation-states; few have survived since the early modern period, some have existed for three hundred years, most came into being during the second part of the last century. Yet the equation between the state and the nation does not go back far in history, despite the prevailing tendency to view the state as closely linked to ethnicity. To challenge the latter this book attempts to examine statehood separately from the concept of ethnicity; it asks what is non-ethnic about statehood by looking at 'statehood before and beyond ethnicity'. A non-ethnic statehood is analysed in two forms: as a historical phenomenon at the time of the emergence of the early modern state (Part One) and as a historical tradition which had been pursued by the nation-builders in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries (Part Two). Instead of looking at great powers as traditional models of statehood, individual chapters focus on minor and less familiar states in Northern and Eastern Europe from the period c. 1600-2000, including Belgium, Bohemia, Greece, the Netherlands, Romania, Poland-Lithuania, Serbia and Montenegro, Sweden, Scotland and Transylvania.
