Book Synopsis A Basic Course in Partial Differential Equations by : Qing Han
Download or read book A Basic Course in Partial Differential Equations written by Qing Han and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2011 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a textbook for an introductory graduate course on partial differential equations. Han focuses on linear equations of first and second order. An important feature of his treatment is that the majority of the techniques are applicable more generally. In particular, Han emphasizes a priori estimates throughout the text, even for those equations that can be solved explicitly. Such estimates are indispensable tools for proving the existence and uniqueness of solutions to PDEs, being especially important for nonlinear equations. The estimates are also crucial to establishing properties of the solutions, such as the continuous dependence on parameters. Han's book is suitable for students interested in the mathematical theory of partial differential equations, either as an overview of the subject or as an introduction leading to further study.

Book Synopsis Ordinary Differential Equations with Applications by : Carmen Chicone
Download or read book Ordinary Differential Equations with Applications written by Carmen Chicone and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-09-23 with total page 652 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on a one-year course taught by the author to graduates at the University of Missouri, this book provides a student-friendly account of some of the standard topics encountered in an introductory course of ordinary differential equations. In a second semester, these ideas can be expanded by introducing more advanced concepts and applications. A central theme in the book is the use of Implicit Function Theorem, while the latter sections of the book introduce the basic ideas of perturbation theory as applications of this Theorem. The book also contains material differing from standard treatments, for example, the Fiber Contraction Principle is used to prove the smoothness of functions that are obtained as fixed points of contractions. The ideas introduced in this section can be extended to infinite dimensions.
Book Synopsis Solving Differential Equations by Multistep Initial and Boundary Value Methods by : L Brugnano
Download or read book Solving Differential Equations by Multistep Initial and Boundary Value Methods written by L Brugnano and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1998-05-22 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The numerical approximation of solutions of differential equations has been, and continues to be, one of the principal concerns of numerical analysis and is an active area of research. The new generation of parallel computers have provoked a reconsideration of numerical methods. This book aims to generalize classical multistep methods for both initial and boundary value problems; to present a self-contained theory which embraces and generalizes the classical Dahlquist theory; to treat nonclassical problems, such as Hamiltonian problems and the mesh selection; and to select appropriate methods for a general purpose software capable of solving a wide range of problems efficiently, even on parallel computers.
Book Synopsis Ordinary Differential Equations by : A. K. Nandakumaran
Download or read book Ordinary Differential Equations written by A. K. Nandakumaran and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2017-05-11 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written in a clear, logical and concise manner, this comprehensive resource allows students to quickly understand the key principles, techniques and applications of ordinary differential equations. Important topics including first and second order linear equations, initial value problems and qualitative theory are presented in separate chapters. The concepts of two point boundary value problems, physical models and first order partial differential equations are discussed in detail. The text uses tools of calculus and real analysis to get solutions in explicit form. While discussing first order linear systems, linear algebra techniques are used. The real-life applications are interspersed throughout the book to invoke reader's interest. The methods and tricks to solve numerous mathematical problems with sufficient derivations and explanation are provided. The proofs of theorems are explained for the benefit of the readers.

Download or read book Initial Value Methods for Boundary Value Problems: Theory and Application of Invariant Imbedding written by and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 1973-08-15 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, we study theoretical and practical aspects of computing methods for mathematical modelling of nonlinear systems. A number of computing techniques are considered, such as methods of operator approximation with any given accuracy; operator interpolation techniques including a non-Lagrange interpolation; methods of system representation subject to constraints associated with concepts of causality, memory and stationarity; methods of system representation with an accuracy that is the best within a given class of models; methods of covariance matrix estimation;methods for low-rank matrix approximations; hybrid methods based on a combination of iterative procedures and best operator approximation; andmethods for information compression and filtering under condition that a filter model should satisfy restrictions associated with causality and different types of memory. As a result, the book represents a blend of new methods in general computational analysis, and specific, but also generic, techniques for study of systems theory ant its particularbranches, such as optimal filtering and information compression. - Best operator approximation,- Non-Lagrange interpolation,- Generic Karhunen-Loeve transform- Generalised low-rank matrix approximation- Optimal data compression- Optimal nonlinear filtering
Book Synopsis Partial Differential Equations and Boundary-Value Problems with Applications by : Mark A. Pinsky
Download or read book Partial Differential Equations and Boundary-Value Problems with Applications written by Mark A. Pinsky and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2011 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building on the basic techniques of separation of variables and Fourier series, the book presents the solution of boundary-value problems for basic partial differential equations: the heat equation, wave equation, and Laplace equation, considered in various standard coordinate systems--rectangular, cylindrical, and spherical. Each of the equations is derived in the three-dimensional context; the solutions are organized according to the geometry of the coordinate system, which makes the mathematics especially transparent. Bessel and Legendre functions are studied and used whenever appropriate throughout the text. The notions of steady-state solution of closely related stationary solutions are developed for the heat equation; applications to the study of heat flow in the earth are presented. The problem of the vibrating string is studied in detail both in the Fourier transform setting and from the viewpoint of the explicit representation (d'Alembert formula). Additional chapters include the numerical analysis of solutions and the method of Green's functions for solutions of partial differential equations. The exposition also includes asymptotic methods (Laplace transform and stationary phase). With more than 200 working examples and 700 exercises (more than 450 with answers), the book is suitable for an undergraduate course in partial differential equations.

Book Synopsis Advanced Mathematics for Applications by : Andrea Prosperetti
Download or read book Advanced Mathematics for Applications written by Andrea Prosperetti and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-01-06 with total page 743 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The partial differential equations that govern scalar and vector fields are the very language used to model a variety of phenomena in solid mechanics, fluid flow, acoustics, heat transfer, electromagnetism and many others. A knowledge of the main equations and of the methods for analyzing them is therefore essential to every working physical scientist and engineer. Andrea Prosperetti draws on many years' research experience to produce a guide to a wide variety of methods, ranging from classical Fourier-type series through to the theory of distributions and basic functional analysis. Theorems are stated precisely and their meaning explained, though proofs are mostly only sketched, with comments and examples being given more prominence. The book structure does not require sequential reading: each chapter is self-contained and users can fashion their own path through the material. Topics are first introduced in the context of applications, and later complemented by a more thorough presentation.
