Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on algebraic structure of group rings is one of the leading, most sought-after topics in ring theory. The new class of neutrosophic rings defined in this book form a generalization of group rings and semigroup rings. The study of the classes of neutrosophic group neutrosophic rings and S-neutrosophic semigroup neutrosophic rings which form a type of generalization of group rings will throw light on group rings and semigroup rings which are essential substructures of them. A salient feature of this group is the many suggested problems on the new classes of neutrosophic rings, solutions of which will certainly develop some of the still open problems in group rings.Further, neutrosophic matrix rings find applications in neutrosophic models like Neutrosophic Cognitive Maps (NCM), Neutrosophic Relational Maps (NRM), Neutrosophic Bidirectional Memories (NBM) and so on.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revolution, reform, and resilience comprise the respective fortunes of modern Iran, Turkey, and Egypt. Although the countries all experienced coups with remarkably similar ambitions, each followed a very different trajectory. Iran became an absolutist monarchy that was overthrown from below, Turkey evolved into a limited democracy, and Egypt turned into a police state. In The Power Triangle, Hazem Kandil attributes the different outcomes to the power struggle between the political, military, and security institutions. Coups establish a division of labor, with one group of officers running government, another overseeing the military, and a third handling security. But their interests begin to vary as each group identifies with its own institution. Politicians wish to rule indefinitely; military officers prefer to return to barracks after implementing the needed reforms; and security men scramble to maintain the privileges they acquired in the post-coup emergency. Driven by conflicting agendas, these partners in domination struggle over regime control. Using comparative historical sociology, Kandil demonstrates how regimes are constantly shaped and reshaped through the recurrent clashes and shifting alliances between the team of rivals in this "power triangle." The Power Triangle's realist approach to regime change shows that a clear explanation of pivotal events in Iran, Turkey, and Egypt is impossible without a firm grasp of the power relations within each country's ruling bloc.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The spread of Islam eastward into South and Southeast Asia was one of the most significant cultural shifts in world history. As it expanded into these regions, Islam was received by cultures vastly different from those in the Middle East, incorporating them into a diverse global community that stretched from India to the Philippines. In Islam Translated, Ronit Ricci uses the Book of One Thousand Questions—from its Arabic original to its adaptations into the Javanese, Malay, and Tamil languages between the sixteenth and twentieth centuries—as a means to consider connections that linked Muslims across divides of distance and culture. Examining the circulation of this Islamic text and its varied literary forms, Ricci explores how processes of literary translation and religious conversion were historically interconnected forms of globalization, mutually dependent, and creatively reformulated within societies making the transition to Islam.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Breaking new ground in the understanding of sexuality's complex relationship to colonialism, When Sex Threatened the State illuminates the attempts at regulating prostitution in colonial Nigeria. As Saheed Aderinto shows, British colonizers saw prostitution as an African form of sexual primitivity and a problem to be solved as part of imperialism's "civilizing mission". He details the Nigerian response to imported sexuality laws and the contradictory ways both African and British reformers advocated for prohibition or regulation of prostitution. Tracing the tensions within diverse groups of colonizers and the colonized, he reveals how wrangling over prostitution camouflaged the negotiating of separate issues that threatened the social, political, and sexual ideologies of Africans and Europeans alike. The first book-length project on sexuality in early twentieth century Nigeria, When Sex Threatened the State combines the study of a colonial demimonde with an urban history of Lagos and a look at government policy to reappraise the history of Nigerian public life.

Book excerpt: This edited collection explores the ways in which the 2008/2009 social and economic crisis in Southern Europe affected the interpretation of the transitional past in Spain, Greece and Portugal. Discussing topics such as public memory, Europeanism and uses of the past by grassroots movements, the volume showcases how the crisis challenged consolidated perceptions of the transitions as ‘success stories’. It revisits the dominant historical narratives around Southern European transitions to democracy more than forty years since the demise of authoritarian regimes, bringing together contributors from history, cultural studies, political science and sociology.

Book excerpt: Neutrosophy means the study of ideas and notions that are not true, nor false, but in between (i.e. neutral, indeterminate, unclear, vague, ambiguous, incomplete, contradictory, etc.). Each field has a neutrosophic part, i.e. that part that has indeterminacy. Thus, there were born the neutrosophic logic, neutrosophic set, neutrosophic probability, neutrosophic statistics, neutrosophic measure, neutrosophic precalculus, neutrosophic calculus, etc. There exist many types of indeterminacies – that is why neutrosophy can be developed in many different ways.

This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a world of chaotic alignments, traditional logic with its strict boundaries of truth and falsity has not imbued itself with the capability of reflecting the reality. Despite various attempts to reorient logic, there has remained an essential need for an alternative system that could infuse into itself a representation of the real world. Out of this need arose the system of Neutrosophy (the philosophy of neutralities, introduced by FLORENTIN SMARANDACHE), and its connected logic Neutrosophic Logic, which is a further generalization of the theory of Fuzzy Logic. In this book we study the concepts of Fuzzy Cognitive Maps (FCMs) and their Neutrosophic analogue, the Neutrosophic Cognitive Maps (NCMs). Fuzzy Cognitive Maps are fuzzy structures that strongly resemble neural networks, and they have powerful and far-reaching consequences as a mathematical tool for modeling complex systems. Neutrosophic Cognitive Maps are generalizations of FCMs, and their unique feature is the ability to handle indeterminacy in relations between two concepts thereby bringing greater sensitivity into the results. Some of the varied applications of FCMs and NCMs which has been explained by us, in this book, include: modeling of supervisory systems; design of hybrid models for complex systems; mobile robots and in intimate technology such as office plants; analysis of business performance assessment; formalism debate and legal rules; creating metabolic and regulatory network models; traffic and transportation problems; medical diagnostics; simulation of strategic planning process in intelligent systems; specific language impairment; web-mining inference application; child labor problem; industrial relations: between employer and employee, maximizing production and profit; decision support in intelligent intrusion detection system; hyper-knowledge representation in strategy formation; female infanticide; depression in terminally ill patients and finally, in the theory of community mobilization and women empowerment relative to the AIDS epidemic.

Book excerpt: The book presents an updated study of hypergroups, being structured on 12 chapters in starting with the presentation of the basic notions in the domain: semihypergroups, hypergroups, classes of subhypergroups, types of homomorphisms, but also key notions: canonical hypergroups, join spaces and complete hypergroups. A detailed study is dedicated to the connections between hypergroups and binary relations, starting from connections established by Rosenberg and Corsini. Various types of binary relations are highlighted, in particular equivalence relations and the corresponding quotient structures, which enjoy certain properties: commutativity, cyclicity, solvability.A special attention is paid to the fundamental beta relationship, which leads to a group quotient structure. In the finite case, the number of non-isomorphic Rosenberg hypergroups of small orders is mentioned. Also, the study of hypergroups associated with relations is extended to the case of hypergroups associated to n-ary relations. Then follows an applied excursion of hypergroups in important chapters in mathematics: lattices, Pawlak approximation, hypergraphs, topology, with various properties, characterizations, varied and interesting examples. The bibliography presented is an updated one in the field, followed by an index of the notions presented in the book, useful in its study.

Book excerpt: This book may be used as reference for graduate students interested in fuzzy differential equations and researchers working in fuzzy sets and systems, dynamical systems, uncertainty analysis, and applications of uncertain dynamical systems. Beginning with a historical overview and introduction to fundamental notions of fuzzy sets, including different possibilities of fuzzy differentiation and metric spaces, this book moves on to an overview of fuzzy calculus thorough exposition and comparison of different approaches. Innovative theories of fuzzy calculus and fuzzy differential equations using fuzzy bunches of functions are introduced and explored. Launching with a brief review of essential theories, this book investigates both well-known and novel approaches in this field; such as the Hukuhara differentiability and its generalizations as well as differential inclusions and Zadeh’s extension. Through a unique analysis, results of all these theories are examined and compared.
