The monsters efforts are not thwarted as he runs down the bank of the river to cross the bridge and catch the alligator on the other side. However, the monster falls into the water and yells for the alligators to help. The alligators save the monsters life. The Alphabet Monster is so grateful that he vows to not eat animals, and to this day, the monster and alligator are very best friends.
