Book Synopsis Probabilistic Structural Mechanics Handbook by : C.R. Sundararajan
Download or read book Probabilistic Structural Mechanics Handbook written by C.R. Sundararajan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 756 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The need for a comprehensive book on probabilistic structural mechanics that brings together the many analytical and computational methods developed over the years and their applications in a wide spectrum of industries-from residential buildings to nuclear power plants, from bridges to pressure vessels, from steel structures to ceramic structures-became evident from the many discussions the editor had with practising engineers, researchers and professors. Because no single individual has the expertise to write a book with such a di.verse scope, a group of 39 authors from universities, research laboratories, and industries from six countries in three continents was invited to write 30 chapters covering the various aspects of probabilistic structural mechanics. The editor and the authors believe that this handbook will serve as a reference text to practicing engineers, teachers, students and researchers. It may also be used as a textbook for graduate-level courses in probabilistic structural mechanics. The editor wishes to thank the chapter authors for their contributions. This handbook would not have been a reality without their collaboration.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Contact Mechanics by : Valentin L. Popov
Download or read book Handbook of Contact Mechanics written by Valentin L. Popov and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-04-26 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book contains a structured collection of the complete solutions of all essential axisymmetric contact problems. Based on a systematic distinction regarding the type of contact, the regime of friction and the contact geometry, a multitude of technically relevant contact problems from mechanical engineering, the automotive industry and medical engineering are discussed. In addition to contact problems between isotropic elastic and viscoelastic media, contact problems between transversal-isotropic elastic materials and functionally graded materials are addressed, too. The optimization of the latter is a focus of current research especially in the fields of actuator technology and biomechanics. The book takes into account adhesive effects which allow access to contact-mechanical questions about micro- and nano-electromechanical systems. Solutions of the contact problems include both the relationships between the macroscopic force, displacement and contact length, as well as the stress and displacement fields at the surface and, if appropriate, within the half-space medium. Solutions are always obtained with the simplest available method - usually with the method of dimensionality reduction (MDR) or approaches which use the solution of the non-adhesive normal contact problem to solve the respective contact problem.

Book Synopsis The Mechanic's Companion ? 1850 by : Peter Nicholson
Download or read book The Mechanic's Companion ? 1850 written by Peter Nicholson and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-01-07 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "More than a century has elapsed since Moxon's ingenious work on the building art, called 'Mechanical Exercises' was first published. It long continued useful and popular. The present state of practice allowed very well of a similar work with improvements. Mr. Nicholson has followed the steps of his predecessor, and treats separately of the arts enumerated in his title page." J. Taylor, publisher, 1812 The Mechanic's Companion, published first in 1812 as Mechanical Exercises and later titled The Mechanic's Companion, was and is a standard reference to the building trades, including carpentry, joinery, bricklaying, masonry, slating, plastering, painting, smithing and turning. This, the 1850 edition, is identical in text content and engraved plates to the first edition published under the title "The Mechanic's Companion"in 1831. In print for over half a century, The Mechanic's Companion "...describe(s) the several tools belonging to each branch of business, next the methods of performing the various manual operations or exercises, to which they are applicable, there are further illustrated and explained by numerous plates..." Peter Nicholson. The Toolemera Press re-publishes classic books on early crafts, trades and industries, from our personal library.
