Book excerpt: Saturday night in sleepy ultraconservative Salton, Oregon has turned terrifying. For thirteen weeks a killer has struck and a young woman has been viciously murdered. With all-American gumption and a lack of concern of legal niceties, the town has taken things into its own hands and formed the Town Security Brigade. Sure enough, the good-old-boy vigilantes seem to have scared the psychokiller away -- until reporter Anna Wimple shows up asking questions about the Brigade's rough justice. Anna becomes victim number fourteen -- or does she? No one is going to find out because the Brigade covers up her death. As the power of the Brigade grows, only two of Salton's residents seem to have the courage to stand against them. Tony -- 18 years-old, precocious, bright, anti-authoritarian -- and Sonja, his beautiful 25-year-old high school principal. As they uncover the truth, they mark themselves for death. Sonja is abducted and Tony -- with the help of doper mechanic Hustle Brodyboy -- must find her.

Book excerpt: For Jung, the beautiful and brilliantly creative 28-year old Christiana Morgan was an inspired force whose path in self-analysis paralleled his own quest for personal knowledge. By teaching Morgan the trance-like technique of active imagination, Jung helped her embark on a series of archetypal adventures which she depicted in paintings of great virtuosity and he candidly recounted at a seminar given to some of his closest followers. Through his eloquent description of the fiery, mythic visions of a woman discovering her repressed sexuality and feminine power, Jung reveals how deeply this encounter challenged his understanding of feminine psychology. These two volumes bring together for the first time colour reproductions of Morgan's paintings with a complete transcript of the seminar.

Book excerpt: This ebook edition contains the unabridged Complete Works of Frances Hodgson Burnett with a detailed and functional table of contents. Frances Eliza Hodgson Burnett (1849 – 1924) was an English playwright and author. She is best known for her children's stories, in particular The Secret Garden (published in 1911), A Little Princess (published in 1905), and Little Lord Fauntleroy (published in 1885-6). Frances Eliza Hodgson was born in Cheetham, near Manchester, England. After her father died in 1852, the family eventually fell on straitened circumstances and in 1865 emigrated to the United States, settling near Knoxville, Tennessee. There, Frances began writing to help earn money for the family, publishing stories in magazines from the age of 19. In 1870 her mother died and in 1872 she married Swan Burnett, who became a medical doctor after which they lived in Paris for two years where their two sons were born before returning to the US to live in Washington D.C. There she began to write novels, the first of which (That Lass o' Lowries), was published to good reviews. Little Lord Fauntleroy was published in 1886 and made her a popular writer of children's fiction, although her romantic adult novels written in the 1890s were also popular.
