Book excerpt: In 1942 two OSS officers, Major Huff a pilot and Major Murphy an infantry officer are tasked with kidnapping an Africa Corps officer from an internment camp in Turkey. During a meeting with Colonel Groves, the officer in charge of the Manhattan Project, they learn the Africa Corps officer is one of Germany's leading physicists who Groves believes was inadvertently assigned to the Africa Corps. After realizing their mistake, the Germans reassigned the officer to the Kaiser Wilheim Institute of Physics in Berlin. While flying back to Berlin, the aircraft was shot down and Turkish fisherman plucked the physicist from the Gulf of Adalia. Subsequently, according to international law, he was interned by the neutral Turkish government. From Harry Hopkins they learn the president has 'green lighted' the operation and are handed an OSS planning document. Huff, an experienced pilot, thinks the plan is absurd until he spots Jimmy Doolittle's signature. Days later a technically complex plan springs into action.

Book excerpt: A rogue scientist/professor suspended from Indian Centre for Biological Sciences (ICBS) is offered a tenure track faculty position in Bangalore Metropolitan College (BMC), for the academic year 2017. Professor Betsy Goodhead, the Head of the Department of Biology, BMC, is intimated by a renowned virologist at ICBS about the newly appointed professor's sinister intentions. She unofficially authorizes her research student Neel Ahmet, a just graduated master's student, to lead five current M.Sc. students and a Ph.D. scholar to get to the roots of the rogue professor's motives. Soon, they discover a diabolical scheme. Arguably the best brains from an oppressed community of just over 500000 that faced the wrath of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) insurgency in 2014, the rogue professor, Prof. Ash is determined to avenge the persecution of her community. Her target now isn't just ISIS, but the whole world. She's covertly engineering a common pathogen into a lethal strain of bacterium that could selectively target all other communities except her close-bred community. Will Neel Ahmet be able to infiltrate into her underground lab connected through a system of underground tunnels and recover the strain? Will he be able to prevent the rogue scientist from causing irreparable damage to his 134-year-old alma mater's repute?

Download or read book The Lufthansa Heist written by Henry Hill and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2015-08-01 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The inside story—from the organizer himself--of the largest unrecovered cash haul in history. This full account brings readers behind the heist memorialized in Goodfellas, a crime that has baffled law enforcement for decades. From Henry Hill himself, The Lufthansa Heist is the last book he worked on before his 2012 death. On December 11, 1978, a daring armed robbery rocked Kennedy Airport, resulting in the largest unrecovered cash haul in world history, totaling six million dollars. The perpetrators were never apprehended and thirteen people connected to the crime were murdered in homicides that, like the crime itself, remain unsolved to this day. The burglary has fascinated the public for years, dominating headlines around the globe due to the story’s unending ravel of mysteries that baffled the authorities. One of the organizers of the sensational burglary, Henry Hill, who passed away in 2012, in collaboration with Daniel Simone, has penned an unprecedented “tell-all” about the robbery with never-before-unveiled details, particulars only known to an insider. In 2013, this infamous criminal act again flared up in the national news when five reputed gangsters were charged in connection to the robbery. This latest twist lends the project an extraordinary sense of timing, and the legal proceedings of the newly arrested suspects will unfold over the next year, continuing to keep the Lufthansa topic in the news.
