Since that period, it has been more and more admired for its justness, purity, accuracy, and flexibility; and the demand for it has increased, especially in this country. Although the commercial relations existing between the United States and South America seem to render a knowledge of the Spanish language almost indispensable to our youth; yet it is comparatively neglect ed, while the French is extensively studied, from the fact that it has become universal and that an individual who is conversant with it, and with the English, may visit any portion of the civilized world, with the certainty of but seldom requiring an interpreter.
