Book excerpt: Sleepless through the night, full of thoughts. Outside the silence, gloomy emptiness, inside the restless spirit; thoughts, partly fleeting, partly anchored, eternal companions, as if it were now, right now, in the middle of the night, to solve all problems, to make plans, and to evaluate situations. Soul Notes is spoken word poetry. A collection of notes and poetry about love, pain, doubts, laughing, development and chaos. Sometimes, a note expresses more than 100 words - a note that's deeply moved, scrutinized, and reflects. Soul Notes is an echo, asking you to dance.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My mate told me that I just don't understand irony. Which was ironic because we were at a bus stop at the time. A dyslexic man walks into a bra. An onion just told me a joke. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. A priest, a rabbi and a blind man walk into a bar and the bartender says, 'What is this, some kind of joke?' I got chatting to a lumberjack in a pub. He seemed like a decent feller. I'll never forget what my granddad said to me just before he kicked the bucket. He said, 'Grandson, how far do you think I can kick this bucket?' Whether told in the rugby clubs of Wales or the gentlemen's clubs of London, their sharpness and simplicity unites us all. Short, sweet and wickedly clever, they hold a special place in the annals of comedy, and as the Twitter age heralds a resurrection of the art form, there seems no better time to celebrate the immortal one-liner. In this riveting read, Times diary columnist Grant Tucker does just that, bringing together 5,000 of the funniest one-liners ever told in one definitive volume. Laugh-out-loud funny, 5,000 Great One-Liners has all the quips, zingers, puns and wisecracks you'll ever need - and a whole lot more.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When her father dies, May Dearborne and her three older brothers all ask the same question: who is going to take care of Kipp? Kipp being their forty-five-year-old autistic brother. Who are they kidding? Since May is widowed, childless, and Kipps twin to boot, of course it will be her. May, an art professor at the University of Chicago, gives up her comfortable, independent life to move back into the family home with Kipp. But living with her quirky twin isnt easy. He makes grilled cheese sandwiches in a sideways-turned toaster, sings in an Alvin-and-the-Chipmunks falsetto, and pesters May relentlessly for a dog and a girlfriend. As May juggles teaching and preparing for the gallery show she hopes will lead to a coveted promotion, she finds herself besieged by men. Theres her narcissistic brother Sal who moves in when his wife kicks him out.And her teenage nephew who needs some space from his infatuated father. Theres Dilly, her smitten childhood friend who shows his love for her through gourmet cupcakes. And then theres Mr. Do-It-Right, the flirty painter she hires to renovate the old house. Throw in a mystery woman, a puppy, and a girlfriend for Kipp, and now everybody and their brother is clamoring for Mays attention. At its heart, Karla Clarks third novel is an endearing story about the connectedness of adult siblings and how they inextricably link each other to the world long after their parents are gone.

Book excerpt: In this rollicking, hilarious comedy, the Doublewide, Texas, gang is back and life in their tiny town has gotten crazier than ever! Just when things are looking up—the population has grown to seventeen mobile homes and a weekend farmers’ market—the rug is pulled out from under the residents yet again. It seems their vacation rental trailer has drawn unwanted attention from a mega-corporation in Austin. Suddenly the corporation is interested in Doublewide. Waaaay too interested. Mayor Joveeta Crumpler is the only one suspicious enough to sound the alarm, but no one is listening. Her mother, Caprice, is too self-involved with her “career” as a local celebrity to sense the growing threat, or to even realize that grumpy old Haywood Sloggett is increasingly drawn to her—and Sloggett is fighting those romantic feelings tooth and nail. Caprice is also hell-bent on keeping her neighbor and rival, Big Ethel Satterwhite, from horning in on her domain—the Stagger Inn bar. Big Ethel has her hands full trying to teach the town’s good-ol’-boy police chief, Baby Crumpler, how to dirty-dance for a countywide competition. But Baby’s got as much chance of winning as Georgia Dean Rudd has of not jinxing her relationship with Nash Sloggett—she’s twisting herself into knots trying to dodge his constant marriage proposals. And as the danger to the town grows, Joveeta can’t even count on the usually reliable and sweet health fanatic Lark Barken—because she’s currently under the spell of a demon she’s only recently discovered: caffeine. But as the tentacles of the corporation envelope them all, can the citizens of this little Texas town put aside their problems and unite behind Joveeta to fight “the big guys” and turn the tide in Doublewide? A heap of hilarity with a whole lot of heart—and a stand-alone play in its own right—HONKY TONK HISSY FIT is the third comedy in the trilogy that begins with Doublewide, Texas and continues with A Doublewide, Texas Christmas. By the triumphant finale of this ferociously funny Jones Hope Wooten comedy (Could there be a double wedding in Doublewide?), you’ll be throwing fits, alright—fits of laughter that’ll make your sides ache!

Book excerpt: AMERICAN VACATION challenges you to leave behind your familiar background and carries you 12,000 miles into the Wild West. It trades your usual city streets for 170 miles of hiking through 7 types of natural landmarks. You will climb from 260 feet below sea level up to 14,000 feet of altitude. Starting in The Land of Lincoln, you will experience a 45-day tour across 19 states at times asking yourself whether you have left the earth and landed on a different planet. You will ride along to discover 33 national, state, and tribal parks and corners of paradise hidden deep within the North American landscape. You will laugh and empathize with Raluca whenever she has to overcome her fears and limits, like climbing down rugged rocks in Spooky Gulch or reaching the summit of Mount White. As a vivid slice of Raluca’s travel experience, this book stands witness to a small fraction of this world's flawless beauty, which has taken hundreds of millions of years to perfect. American Vacation. 12,000 Miles Into the Wild West is Raluca Barbu's fifth book, the first four having been published in her home country, Romania. It is a travel book about the most iconic Western landmarks, seen through the eyes of a Romanian writer. It is in many respects one-of-a-kind because no other Romanian author has traveled and written about the American West. It provides a foreign writer’s take on the American landscape and tourism through the eyes of a former citizen of a communist country. It is a homage given both to the beauty of the American outdoors and to the way nature is respected and preserved by the authorities and visitors. What makes American Vacation special is the travel narrative that Raluca has brought back as a literary genre. In a world of Google reviews, travel blogs, and vacation guides she manages to shine a light on the lost art of travel memoirs. Praise for American Vacation. 12,000 Miles Into the Wild West "I thoroughly enjoyed American Vacation -- from destination to destination, and cover to cover. Interesting and informative in a framework of armchair travel, the book is so much more. It provides the reader, at times, an opportunity to reflect about the amazing landscapes, large and small, that are America, and about us, as their caretakers. It is insightful, funny, charming -- and a tribute to Nature and the tourists and park rangers who care about wild places. When I'd finished the last page and closed the cover, I couldn't help but smile...feeling quite positive and hopeful! Perfect gift book all around." Donna Blomquist (LaSalle Public Library, IL) "This read is a Mobil Travel Guide, and a Travels With Charley: In Search of America (John Steinbeck) without the dog, in one book. If you are going on a trip in America to the West and Pacific Coast it is a must read. If you are staying home it is also a must read for the positive message. The Author sees America's parks as rich in beauty - good enough to eat and kind travelers along the way gladly share the feast. This Book belongs in your Beach Bag or Hiking Backpack for a delightful educational summer read." Lynn Sanders "This book was a wonderful read! I was expecting it to be a travel book of experiences and to my delight it was so much more. As I was reading I was seeing the beauty through her eyes and even though I have been to many of those places it was great having her perspective and outlook. I felt like I was right there with her hiking and exploring all the beauty that our great western states have to offer. Time to put on my hiking boots and go explore some more. Great book." Evan Czarnik "American Vacation is an epic journey wrapped in a love story! Told from a non-American perspective, this book provides unique insights and sheer delight in the American experience. Each chapter takes you on an adventure capturing the joy and awe of new discoveries. I thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful use of language and whimsical animal encounters along the way. American Vacation will leave you eager to plan your own trip across the vast, amazing, United States of America. Grab your cup of coffee, and get ready to take off into the great American West!" Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is dedicated to raising funds for Fraternite Notre Dame Orphanage situated in Mongolia. The orphanage was established to house children that were being found on the local dump, abandoned at hospitals, or delivered to the orphanage from the police headquarters. The home tried to maintain a family grouping of around twenty-three children ranging from four to twelve years old. The choice has always been to ensure these children remain together and receive as many opportunities as possible to live lives that mirror those of other Mongolian children. The children attend local schools and engage in a wide range of extra activities provided by local volunteers. They have few luxuries, but are always clean, well dressed, well fed, warm and healthy. Maintaining what is effectively a family of twenty-three children does not come cheaply. The orphanage receives no government funding and is entirely reliant on the generosity of local benefactors to continue operations. The government has recommended that the orphanage now employ more staff. The home is required to employ a manager, social worker, an extra teacher for before and after school, and a cook and cleaning staff. This forms the largest component of their monthly budget. There are no expenditures that allow for clothing, outings, unforeseen medical expenses, or extra activities. The purchase of this book supports the continued efforts of Fraternite Notre Dame Orphanage in Mongolia.

Sheriff Sunshine Vicram would rather give it a hearty shove and get back into bed, because there’s just too much going on right now. There’s a series of women going missing, and Sunny feels powerless to stop it. There’s her persistent and awesomely-rebellious daughter Auri, who’s out to singlehandedly become Del Sol’s youngest and fiercest investigator. And then there’s drama with Levi Ravinder—the guy she’s loved and lusted after for years. The guy who might just be her one and only. The guy who comes from a family of disingenuous vipers looking to oust him—and Sunshine—for good. Like we said, the new day can take a hike. Compulsively readable, laugh-out-loud funny, and brimming with big-hearted characters, A Hard Day for a Hangover will have readers cheering to the very last page. "Fans will be delighted." -Publishers Weekly

She's an upbeat Southerner with good hair and a successful business background, but she's had more heartache than most of us can imagine. Laughing Through the Ugly Cry is a collection of honest and sometimes raw stories. Dawn throws an arm around readers as she brings them along on her journey through the loss of a child, divorce, cancer, rape, the death of her only sibling, her husband's substance abuse, and finding her way back to Jesus in the middle of it all. Dawn shares her personal story to show readers how to find happiness and purpose even in the darkest of days. By laughing through the ugly cry, you will discover how to: Shut down negative feelings causing you to feel inadequate Identify the pros despite how challenging the cons may seem Embrace joy wherever you can find it Learn how to be honest with yourself and process grief in a healthy way Dawn writes, "If more women were open about just how difficult our lives feel and how hard we are on ourselves, I think we'd learn to relax a little and give ourselves the grace God gives us every day." Laughing Through the Ugly Cry is great for: Women of any age seeking comfort, encouragement, and inspiration Book clubs and girls' nights--Dawn poses thoughtful group questions to support meaningful conversations about growth and joy
