Book excerpt: This book is based on a seminar given by Don E. Stevens during October 2007. He felt strongly that the most important spiritual work in the world today is associated with forgiveness. Don and his Young Peoples Group (YPG) met to determine best way forward. In the language of Rwanda, known as Kinyarwanda there are two words: "imbabazi" which means (ask for) forgiveness, and "kubabarira" which means to forgive. On May 19, 2011 in London, Jean-Paul Samputu, a survivor of the Rwandan genocide wrote for Laurent about forgiveness: "In life we must find creative (or constructive) ways to negotiate conflicts. We cannot change the past but we can change how we approach it, or how we carry our feelings about it into the future, and forgiveness is the key. Forgiveness is the most powerful weapon against terrorism and atrocities. To break these cycles of violence, wars, conflicts, is to preach forgiveness. We live in the world where revenge is the culture. Only the culture of forgiveness will stop the cycle (of war, genocide, etc.). My real enemy was not the one who wronged me, my real enemy was my hatred, bitterness, my anger which came alive in me. We become what we don't forgive. Forgiveness means to liberate from bondage, to release from the prison of our desire for revenge, of our anger, our bitterness, and hatred. Life is not changed by knowing the word of the truth but by living the truth."

Book excerpt: Inspiration and encouragement from across faith traditions for all who seek hope and wholeness through letting go. “The burden of a grudge, resentment or bitterness is not fully understood until the act of forgiving another lifts it and the freedom of grace given is experienced. How weighed down we are with being unforgiving! When you truly forgive from the heart … you know it by the liberation of your own soul.” —Rev. Timothy J. Mooney, in “A Choice and a Gift” Old wounds can bind up your heart and keep you from fully loving—and fully living—in the present. Your pain may come from devastating trauma or unconscious resentment from accumulated everyday grievances. No matter the depth of the hurt, true healing comes from the courage to face the past and begin the process of letting go. These offerings of warmth and wisdom from many different faiths, backgrounds and perspectives will encourage you to begin your own journey toward the wholeness and freedom that comes from true forgiveness. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seventy times seven...how many times shall I forgive? Our Lord answers us clearly that our forgiveness of those who hurt us shall have no end. This is one of the most difficult things any person has to face. David Augsburger understands this. He knows the outrageous cost-and incomparable value-of forgiving. He also knows this is a believer's only option. Any other course of action will not only be destructive, it will violate the will of God. In The New Freedom of Forgiveness, Dr. Augsburger expands upon his classic writing to provide a more comprehensive, expanded, and stronger message. Combining personal testimonies with Scripture, Dr. Augsburger provides readers with practical guidance on applying forgiveness in our everyday lives. With an excellent new study guide, readers will be challenged on an even deeper level. We are commanded to forgive everything. Not just the little stuff, the minor irritations and thoughtless behavior of others, but everything. When we forgive, we are set free from bondage. The New Freedom of Forgiveness is an essential resource not only for understanding what God requires, but also learning how to apply it every day. Read this life-changing book and discover the freedom of forgiveness.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A few terrible moments on an otherwise tranquil night... A tragic fire, ruled an accident by local authorities, destroys an antique carousel - and also claims a life. Kevin Ahern has returned to the small Midwest city of Hayes with an interesting proposal for the city he has adopted - to build them a brand new carousel from the ground up. But Kevin and his friends soon find themselves faced with lingering questions about the fire and its aftermath. An insurance claim, filed by the City, not only for loss of revenue, but for the loss of priceless carousel art and history, has brought a retired arson investigator to town - and no one likes the questions he’s asking. Was the fire really just an unfortunate accident? If not, who started the fire? Was it a simple case of arson, or a calculated and planned act of hatred and vengeance? But more importantly, who else may have been there that awful night, and what was their involvement? As the investigator zeros in on his suspects and their possible motives, other small town secrets begin to emerge. And there is one person around whom everything seems to swirl: a wandering amnesiac with only one name, an unknown origin - burn scars branded into his palms and guilt seared into his soul. If there is to be any forgiveness or redemption, it may lie buried with old secrets and hard truths that no wants to face.

Book excerpt: A Mother’s Journey of Love, Death, and Forgiveness By: Jackie Loret de Mola Jackie Loret de Mola’s life was changed forever on September 22, 2017 when her thirty-three-year-old son Frank’s car was hit from behind at a stop in traffic and he later succumbed to his injuries. This book is a collection of her day-to-day journal entries and social media posts that provide an intimate glimpse into the pain and disbelief she felt in the days and weeks that followed. Her raw emotions and thoughts and her forgiveness of the driver are an inspiring testament to the power of faith and love. Above all, A Mother’s Journey of Love, Death, and Forgiveness conveys the love that a mother has for her child. Frank Loret de Mola’s life blessed everyone around him, and as an organ donor, he blessed four very sick people. She hopes her book will inspire readers to consider organ donation and to consider the brevity of life and the importance of loving our families.

Book excerpt: Winner of the 2013 Women's Prize for Fiction—A darkly comic novel of twenty-first-century domestic life by a writer who is always “compelling, devastating, and furiously good” (Zadie Smith) Harold Silver has spent a lifetime watching his younger brother, George, a taller, smarter, and more successful high-flying TV executive, acquire a covetable wife, two kids, and a beautiful home in the suburbs of New York City. But Harry, a historian and Nixon scholar, also knows George has a murderous temper, and when George loses control the result is an act of violence so shocking that both brothers are hurled into entirely new lives in which they both must seek absolution. Harry finds himself suddenly playing parent to his brother’s two adolescent children, tumbling down the rabbit hole of Internet sex, dealing with aging parents who move through time like travelers on a fantastic voyage. As Harry builds a twenty-first-century family created by choice rather than biology, we become all the more aware of the ways in which our history, both personal and political, can become our destiny and either compel us to repeat our errors or be the catalyst for change. May We Be Forgiven is an unnerving, funny tale of unexpected intimacies and of how one deeply fractured family might begin to put itself back together.
