Book Synopsis Tales of the Jazz Age by : F. Scott Fitzgerald
Download or read book Tales of the Jazz Age written by F. Scott Fitzgerald and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2011-02-23 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evoking the Jazz-Age world that would later appear in his masterpiece, The Great Gatsby, this essential Fitzgerald collection contains some of the writer’s most famous and celebrated stories. In “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” an extraordinary child is born an old man, growing younger as the world ages around him. “The Diamond as Big as the Ritz,” a fable of excess and greed, shows two boarding school classmates mired in deception as they make their fortune in gemstones. And in the classic novella “May Day,” debutantes dance the night away as war veterans and socialists clash in the streets of New York. Opening the book is a playful and irreverent set of notes from the author, documenting the real-life pressures and experiences that shaped these stories, from his years at Princeton to his cravings for luxury to the May Day Riots of 1919. Taken as a whole, this collection brings to vivid life the dazzling excesses, stunning contrasts, and simmering unrest of a glittering era. Its 1922 publication furthered Fitzgerald's reputation as a master storyteller, and its legacy staked his place as the spokesman of an age.
Book Synopsis Tender Is the Night by : F. Scott Fitzgerald
Download or read book Tender Is the Night written by F. Scott Fitzgerald and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-04-26 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: F. Scott Fitzgerald began composing Tender Is the Night in the summer of 1925, but he struggled with the novel and reworked it intensively over the next nine years. A study of the disintegration of a talented young American psychiatrist, set among wealthy American expatriates living in Europe after the First World War, the novel, finally published in 1934, is now considered one of his major works. Fitzgerald saved a great many of his working materials - notes, diagrams, holographs, typescripts, proofs and correspondence - making it possible to reconstruct in detail the passage of Tender Is the Night from manuscript to print. The Cambridge edition follows the order of the first edition; it includes a history of composition, an analysis of Fitzgerald's plan for republication and an explanation of the chronology of the narrative. The edition also contains full historical annotations, facsimiles of surviving drafts and a record of emendations.
Book Synopsis The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Other Jazz Age Stories by : F. Scott Fitzgerald
Download or read book The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Other Jazz Age Stories written by F. Scott Fitzgerald and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2008-08-26 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The inspiration for the major motion picture starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, plus eighteen other stories by the beloved author of The Great Gatsby In the title story of this collection by one of America’s greatest writers, a baby born in 1860 begins life as an old man and proceeds to age backward. F. Scott Fizgerald hinted at this kind of inversion when he called his era “a generation grown up to find all Gods dead, all wars fought, all faiths in man shaken.” Perhaps nowhere in American fiction has this “Lost Generation” been more vividly preserved than in Fitzgerald’s short fiction. Spanning the early twentieth-century American landscape, this original collection captures, with Fitzgerald’s signature blend of enchantment and disillusionment, America during the Jazz Age. For more than seventy years, Penguin has been the leading publisher of classic literature in the English-speaking world. With more than 1,700 titles, Penguin Classics represents a global bookshelf of the best works throughout history and across genres and disciplines. Readers trust the series to provide authoritative texts enhanced by introductions and notes by distinguished scholars and contemporary authors, as well as up-to-date translations by award-winning translators.

This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: GENERAL & LITERARY FICTION. This is a beautiful gift edition of the classic novel. It was an instant bestseller upon its release, capturing the spirit of the roaring twenties. If the 'Roaring Twenties' are remembered as the era of 'flaming youth', it was F. Scott Fitzgerald who lit the fire. His semi-autobiographical first novel, This Side of Paradise, became an instant best-seller and established an image of seemingly carefree, party-mad young men and women out to create a new morality for a new, post-war America. It traces the early life of Amory Blaine from the end of prep school through Princeton to the start of an uncertain career in New York City. This volume has an exquisitely designed bonded-leather binding, with distinctive gilt edging and a silk-ribbon bookmark. Decorative, durable, and collectible, this book offers hours of pleasure to readers young and old and is an indispensable cornerstone for any home library.
