Book excerpt: This carefully crafted ebook: "The Diary of a Provincial Lady (Unabridged Edition With Original Illustrations)" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. When the editor of Time and Tide wanted some light "middles", preferably in serial form, E. M. Delafield promised to think of something to submit'. It was thus, in 1930, that her most popular and enduring work Diary of a Provincial Lady was written. This largely autobiographical novel which took the form of a journal of the life of an upper-middle class Englishwoman living mostly in a Devon village of the 1930s is a humorous account of a house-wife and a mother who juggles her life at home and yet goes on to successfully publish her first book. Excerpt: "November 7th.—Plant the indoor bulbs. Just as I am in the middle of them, Lady Boxe calls. I say, untruthfully, how nice to see her, and beg her to sit down while I just finish the bulbs. Lady B. makes determined attempt to sit down in armchair where I have already placed two bulb-bowls and the bag of charcoal, is headed off just in time, and takes the sofa." (The Diary of a Provincial Lady) E. M. Delafield (1890-1943) was a prolific English author who is best known for her autobiographical works like Zella Sees Herself, The Provincial Lady Series etc. which look at the lives of upper-middle class Englishwomen.

Book excerpt: Im at a bit of an impasse here. I dont have spare copies of the books, so I cant be specific (ie delete pages xi, xii etc)! I simply cant do that. With regards to the prelim pages, thats rather similar. I sent two prelim pages for each title, which I can set out again if needed. One is a title page, and one is a copyright page. All I want is for premedia to delete the scored out pages, and insert my two in title page, copyright page order at the start of the book. Can you advise on how I can set this out so that they will accept this?

Book Synopsis Virginia Woolf and Her Female Contemporaries by : Julie Vandivere
Download or read book Virginia Woolf and Her Female Contemporaries written by Julie Vandivere and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Virginia Woolf and Her Female Contemporaries, seeks to contextualize Virginia Woolf?s writing alongside the work of other women writers during the first decades of the twentieth-century. This volume not only expands our understanding of the unprecedented number of female writers but also helps us comprehend the ways that these writers contributed and complicated modernist literature. It explores how burgeoning communities and enclaves of women writers intersected with and coexisted alongside Virginia Woolf and emphasizes both the development of enclaves and specific female subcultures or individual writers who were contemporaneous with Virginia Woolf. The essays in the first section,?Who Are Virginia Woolf?s Female Contemporaries,? explore the boundaries of contemporaneity by considering women across nation, time, and class. The second section,?Cultural Contexts,? explores Woolf?s connections to early twentieth-century culture such as film and book societies. The two final sections,?Recovery and Recuperation,? and?Connections Between Canonical Writers,? illuminate the interlocking network of women writers and artists, the latter through women who have been bereft of scholarly attention and the former through women who have received more scholarly attention.
