This book was released on 1991 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In discussions of the church as the body of Christ (some Christou) within the Pauline corpus, numerous New Testament scholars have tried to come to grips with a fundamental but yet unresolved issue-the nature of the relationships between Christ via his own body and the church as body. The implicit assumption is that some Christou as ecclesiological language does point to Christ's once crucified but now risen body in some direct way-either mystically or metaphorically. This book examines exegetically that basic assumption in the light of the 18 ecclesiological references to soma and demonstrates that the expression is not a reference to Christ's personal body, as numerous scholars assert, but that it simply has the human body (any human body) as its referent. The book maintains that Christ's personal body, crucified and risen, becomes relevant only in a larger Christological and soteriological sense.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the years there have been many treatments of Paul's theology that have focused on what the churches he wrote to were like, and what that might mean for today. However, what Paul says about relationships between churches has been frequently neglected, or only briefly considered. This book analyzes Paul's use of the word "church" as well as family imagery, holiness language, body imagery, and Paul's understanding of imitation and apostleship to demonstrate the breadth of his understanding of relationships between churches, of inter-church solidarity. Inter-church solidarity is shown to be integral to Paul's understanding of church from the earliest letters, and the book exposes a rich tapestry of relationships that should challenge and encourage the church in the twenty-first century.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Edward Irving (1792-1834) has been known as a controversial pastor-theologian in nineteenth-century Britain, particularly given his belief that Christ took on sinful flesh in His incarnation. This book focuses on Irving’s teaching of the church as the body of Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit and the eschatological community in holiness. It explores Irving’s emphasis upon the exalted humanity of Christ after His resurrection in relation to the church. Such a Christ-centred and Spirit-empowered concept of the church has relevance to the twenty-first century church in China as the Chinese church leaders attempt to reconstruct a contemporary theology of the church.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Technological innovation has changed nearly everything about human life, including how we teach and learn. Many Christian professors and institutions have embraced new technologies, especially online education. But as followers of Jesus Christ, we face the same call to grow in our faith. So how should we think about and approach Christian education in light of new technologies? Is it possible for us to grow spiritually through our digital communities? Steve Lowe and Mary Lowe, longtime proponents of online education, trace the motif of spiritual growth through Scripture and consider how students and professors alike might foster digital ecologies in which spiritual growth—even transformation—can take place. Rather than functioning as criteria of christological orthodoxy, these poetic narrations of Christ's person and work are used by Paul to support various ethical positions. For Paul and the Christians he addresses, these stories of Christ are exemplars for the life and practice of the church.

In it, Ramsey understands the church as a reflection the death and resurrection of Christ, and then argues that the various expressions of Christianity today each express their own gifts in accordance with the Resurrection, whether they are Catholic, Protestant/Evangelical, Eastern, or Anglican. A rewarding read for whomever undertakes it, this book will broaden your view of the church, and deepen your appreciation for the many forms of Christian expression.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 'Dictionary of Paul and his letters' is a one-of-a-kind reference work. Following the format of its highly successful companion volume, the 'Dictionary of Jesus and the Gospels', this Dictionary is designed to bring students, teachers, ministers and laypeople abreast of the established conclusions and significant recent developments in Pauline scholarship. No other single reference work presents as much information focused exclusively on Pauline theology, literature, background and scholarship. In a field that recently has undergone significant shifts in perspective, the 'Dictionary of Paul and His Letters' offers a summa of Paul and Pauline studies. In-depth articles focus on individual theological themes (such as law, resurrection and Son of God), broad theological topics (such as Christology, eschatology and the death of Christ), methods of interpretation (such as rhetorical criticism and social-scientific approaches), background topics (such as apocalypticism, Hellenism and Qumran) and various other subjects specifically related to the scholarly study of Pauline theology and literature (such as early catholicism, the centre of Paul's theology, and Paul and his interpreters since F. C. Baur). Separate articles are also devoted to each of the Pauline letters, to hermeneutics and to preaching Paul today. The 'Dictionary of Paul and His Letters' takes its place alongside the 'Dictionary of Jesus and the Gospels' in presenting the fruit of evangelical New Testament scholarship at the end of the twentieth century - committed to the authority of Scripture, utilising the best of critical methods, and maintaining dialogue with contemporary scholarship and challenges facing the church.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The study of the house church, we will see, takes us to the heart of many basic issues in early Christianity. We will focus on Paul's churches, but we must look to other later texts, both New Testament and extra-biblical, for insights and hints about the nature of the communities. Because the existence of such house churches was not an issue for him, Paul says little directly about them as such. His instructions about church life, however, become more understandable when read from the perspective of a household communitiy and at the same time shed light on these groups."--Introduction.
