Book excerpt: Chet the dog, "the most lovable narrator in all of crime fiction" (Boston Globe) and his human partner Bernie Little find themselves high in the mountains this holiday season to help Dame Ariadne Carlisle, a renowned author of bestselling Christmas mysteries, find Rudy, her lead reindeer and good luck charm, who has gone missing. At Kringle Ranch, Dame Ariadne’s expansive mountain spread, Chet discovers that he is not fond of reindeer. But the case turns out to be about much more than reindeer after Dame Ariadne’s personal assistant takes a long fall into Devil’s Purse, a deep mountain gorge. When our duo discovers that someone very close to Dame Ariadne was murdered in that same spot decades earlier, they start looking into that long ago unsolved crime. But as they reach into the past, the past is also reaching out for them. Can they unlock the secrets of Dame Ariadne’s life before they too end up at the bottom of the gorge? Is Rudy somehow the key? Up on the Woof Top is a brand-new holiday adventure in Spencer Quinn's delightful New York Times and USA Today bestselling series that the Los Angeles Times called “nothing short of masterful.” At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, by the author of The American Common Law Method, is an excellent source of continuing judicial education for judges at all levels as well as an accessible teaching tool for the classroom. An opening section explains the basic principles of common law methods for creating and applying case law. Advanced Case Law Method then examines the methods used by appellate courts in four states to create case lines on distinct topics. After each case in each line, the author poses several questions concerning the court's performance as a creator and user of case law. For instance, one chapter traces the "at will" employment doctrine as developed by the New York Court of Appeals and subsequent efforts to create public policy exceptions to the rule. Another looks at the struggle of the appellate courts of Pennsylvania to limit the "intentional infliction of emotional distress" tort doctrine. The New Hampshire group of cases goes back to the mid-18th century and examines railroad liability issues, culminating in the 21st century with duties imposed on internet information providers when the buyer of information causes harm to the seller. The Texas cases treat the "spoliation" doctrine which penalizes a party responsible for causing key evidence to disappear. Following the questions raised by the examined cases, Advanced Case Law Methods includes the suggested responses. The text is then supplemented by a section intended to make the questions and suggested responses a springboard for discussion at seminars, conferences and even classrooms. Judges, therefore, won't have to worry about "doing homework" and getting wrong answers. Published under the Transnational Publishers imprint.

Book excerpt: A little girl's belief in Santa is restored in this ode to the magic of Christmas. This is a holiday gift readers will treasure for years to come! It's two weeks before Christmas, and Deja is worried that Santa might not be able to visit her--after all, as a city kid, she doesn't have a chimney for him to come down and none of the parking spots on her block could fit a sleigh, let alone eight reindeer! But with a little help from her family, community, and Santa himself, Deja discovers that the Christmas spirit is alive and well in her city. With bold, colorful illustrations that capture the joy of the holidays, this picture book from award-winning author Tiffany D. Jackson and illustrator Reggie Brown is not to be missed.
