Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Carpenter Prophet: A Life of Jesus Christ and a Discussion of His Ideals It is to me a deep satisfaction that I have been able to complete this work, which I venture to affirm has been written with a sincere desire to promote truth and righteousness and with patient solicitude as to facts and expression, although it is evident to me that in the nature of the case it is but tentative and initial. There are probably many errors in detail and many instances of wrong emphasis and wrong shading, and, for the sake of brevity, much has been omitted. Yet it is, I hope, a step in the right direction, the beginning of a line of investigation which others may continue. The argument of this book is that all the superhuman powers attributed to Jesus, whether by the enthusiasm of disciples, by the imagination of poets, or by the self-interest of priests, are untrue, and if they are untrue it follows as a matter of course that they are hurtful. God is the God of truth and man becomes godlike in proportion as he knows and obeys the truth. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This book was released on 2019-12-31 with total page 602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The keystone of Christianity is Jesus’s physical, bodily resurrection. Present-day scholars can be significantly challenged as they forage through voluminous documents on the resurrection of Jesus. The literature measures well over seven thousand sources in English-language books alone. This makes finding specific sources that are most relevant for specific scholarly purposes an arduous task. Even when a specific book is relevant, finding the parts of the book that are most relevant to the resurrection rather than other topics often requires additional effort. A Thematic Access-Oriented Bibliography of Jesus’s Resurrection addresses these challenges in several ways. First, the bibliography organizes more than seven thousand English sources into twelve main categories and then thirty-four subcategories, which are designed to help you find the most relevant literature quickly and efficiently. Embedded are pro and con arguments which support efficient access through brief annotations and then annotate the diversity and complexity of the field of religion by including sources that represent a diverse range of views: theistic (e.g., Christian, Jewish, Muslim, etc.), agnostic, and nontheistic. The objective of this bibliography is to provide convenient access to relevant sources from a variety of perspectives, allowing you to browse or find the one source accurately and with ease.

Book Synopsis Architecture Constructed by : Mark Jarzombek
Download or read book Architecture Constructed written by Mark Jarzombek and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2023-04-06 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Architecture Constructed explores the central, open secret of architecture: the long-suppressed conflict between arche and teckton-between those who design, and those who build. This unresolved tension has a centuries-old history in the discipline, persisting through Classical and Renaissance times to the present day, and yet it has rarely been addressed through a historical and theoretical lens. In this book, acclaimed architectural theorist Mark Jarzombek examines this tension head-on, and uses it to rethink the nature of the history of architecture. He reveals architecture to be a troubled, interconnected realm, incomplete and unstable, where labor, craft, and occupation are the 'invisible' complements to the work of the architect. Erudite, entertaining, and full of surprising and thought-provoking juxtapositions and challenges, Architecture Constructed is packed with novel insights into the internal conflicts and paradoxes of architecture, and is rich with examples from modern and contemporary practice-including Mies, Koolhaas, Potrc, Hadid, Bawa, Diller + Scofidio-which demonstrate how contemporary architecture inhabits the very same tensions that have riven the discipline since the days of Alberti. This provocative book will stimulate conversations among students, researchers, and designers, as it pushes the boundaries on how we define the professional discipline of architecture and overturns entrenched assumptions about the nature of architectural history and theory.
