Download or read book THE BRAHM NIRUPAN OF KABIR written by J. Das and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-11 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The word Brahm means the Absolute or Ultimate Reality that is the primal cause of the existence of the universe and all beings. Nirupan means the form or nature of that Reality. For simplicity, we can say God. Yet we know that God is beyond forms and attributes that we can ascribe to Him. But we need to use words to communicate, so Kabir explains to his disciple that the Ultimate cannot be described in words, but must be experienced inwardly. He then describes various methods of approaching God, the negative actions to avoid, and the virtuous ones to be cultivated, as one progresses on the spiritual path to enlightenment. Kabir uses several Indian analogies and metaphors to explain the teachings to his earnest disciple.

Book excerpt: "Few major achievements of world literature are as little known to Americans as the great ecstatic poetry of the Hindus and Sufis, as exemplified by the work of the 15th century master, Kabir. Irreverent while being intensely religious, Kabir seems incredibly playful in his taunting of the sacred dogmas of his time--to readers accustomed to the solemnity and ideological fidelity of most Western religious poems. Kabir has been translated into English only once before, by Rabindranath Tagore and Evelyn Underhill. Unfortunately, Tagore's Victorian English was simply not equal to Kabir's directness, spontaneity, and irreverent humor. Working from the Tagore-Underhill translation, Bly has done much more than retranslate into American diction. A noted poet himself, he has breathed new life into the work of a fascinating poet"--From back cover.

Book excerpt: Kabir was an extraordinary oral poet whose works have been sung and recited by millions throughout North India for half a millennium. He may have been illiterate and he preached an abrasive, sometimes shocking, always uncompromising message that exhorted his audience to shed their delusions, pretentions, and empty orthodoxies in favor of an intense, direct, and personal confrontation with the truth. Thousands of poems are popularly attributed to Kabir, but only a few written collections have survived over the centuries. The Bijak is one of the most important, and is the sacred book of those who follow Kabir.

Download or read book Parabhakti written by Nome and published by Society of Abidance in Truth. This book was released on 2015-10-25 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These writings, by Nome, are an offering to Lord Siva, to Sadguru Ramana, and to all sages of the lineage of Advaita Vedanta. Upon reading this little book, the reader immediately will recognize that he or she is reading writings of both a devotional nature and writings expressive of jnana—Knowledge. This is Parabhakti—supreme devotion. The first part of this book is in seven chapters. The reader will note subtle differences among the chapters. The first and second chapters describe bhakti (devotion), while the third chapter describes the experience of the bhakta (devotee). The fourth chapter takes the bhakta deeper into jnana through the relationship with the Guru, while the fifth chapter speaks of continuous, absorbing devotion to God and Guru. The sixth describes the practice of the bhakta and the spiritual activities and attitudes with which a bhakta infuses his or her life, and the seventh describes absorption, through bhakti, in jnana. The second part of this book is in six chapters consisting of a collection of poetry: Chapter I, Namah Sivaya, presents short verses praising Lord Siva, while simultaneously expressing Knowledge of the Lord.Chapter II, In Praise of the One Like Space, is a poem that is descriptive of Absolute Being and praising that Absolute.Chapter III, Realize the One Like Space, is composed of verses that pose questions that, if asked, guide the bhakta to realize the One like space.Chapter IV, Space of Grace, is a set of verses descriptive of the One like space—a description of Grace.Chapter V, Within the One Like Space, features verses describing the experience of the space that is the One Absolute.Chapter VI, Gracious Inquiry, appears as both a solicitation for Grace and also Knowledge of the ever-presence of Grace through inquiry. If a person practices pure, ego-less jnana, bhakti is unavoidable. On the other hand, if a person practices pure, ego-less bhakti, jnana is surely inevitable. The glorious, lofty heights of devotion and Knowledge are expressed here in this little book, and the sages assure us that the identical experience is available to all. It is sincerely hoped that the reader experiences the vastness of parabhakti while deeply meditating on these writings and remains absorbed therein. To abide unmoving, without giving rise to illusion, free of attachment to the transient unreality, desireless and fearless, absorbed by the power of devotion that gives birth to Knowledge, in That, as That, is bhakti. ~ from the book Parabhakti

Book excerpt: Innumerable systems of worships are prevalent these days, instead of one prescribed system of attainment of One God propounded by the Geeta and other scriptures on Yoga. Some might say worshipping the cow is true religion (gau-dharma), whereas according to others Peepal tree (a holy tree) could be true religion (Dharma); while some other might exhort the importance of caste-system (varna) and ashrams. Hence, ‘what is a true Universal Religion’ is the question, baffles many a minds. The question today is similar as ‘Who is our God? Who should be worshipped?’ This is the primary book on the path of worship and spiritual path. Must read.
