I have been the more willing to give expression to our feelings, at this time, since I fully realize that no word Of eulogy of mine is needed to bring him to your appreciation. We are all familiar with the results of his labor. TO nearly all of us there has been a personal side, not revealed in printed page. To me, he has been a helpful friend of many years standing, one whose frank though kindly criticism as well as encouraging word, whether written or spoken, have been appreciated and have influenced my endeavors and will influence them to the end of my labors. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Anatomical Record, Vol. 21: April-July, 1921 The policy of the journal will not be materially changed, but an attempt will be made to hasten the publication of accepted articles, to adhere a little more closely to the original plan Of The Record, and to differentiate it more clearly from the american journal OF anatomy. In order to accomplish these results, it will be necessary to limit the length of the articles printed. NO definite rules can be laid down, but in the opinion of the advisory committee papers of five or ten printed pages will usually be much more acceptable than those necessitating greater elaboration; while notes on laboratory methods, preliminary reports, etc., will be considered appropriate subject matter. All contributors are earnestly and confidently requested to cooperate in this policy. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. There are Observations recorded in the literature Which are vaguely suggestive of such a possibility. Of particular interest from this standpoint are statements made by Brass2 and by Evans,3 that the endothelial cells lining the sinuses and lymph channels Of lymph-glands are always intensely stained, and by Kiyono' that vitaliy stained endothelial cells are found in the lymph spaces Of the interstitial tissue of the lung. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Anatomical Record, Vol. 1 The American Journal of Anatomy will set aside a few pages in each number to form a special section under the heading "Anatomical Record." The Record, as the term implies, will contain brief preliminary reports; short reviews or estimates of really noteworthy publications; critical notes on topics of iterest to anatomists; concise statements of courses, laboratory plans and events, appointments, etc.; and occasional brief notes on Technique. It should develop into something more than a mere perfunctory collection of news items, and it is hoped that favorable notice of a publication in these pages will come to be regarded as an honor. The Journal would aid in directing attention to problems affecting the development of the science of Anatomy, the organization for teaching it, and its relations with other branches. While not attempting to dictate, the Journal may well be useful in assisting the forming of opinion by serving as a medium of expression for all well-considered views on anatomical matters. While contributions are thus sought, it will be necessary to insist that all material for the Record be prepared with special care, and submitted in final and finished form. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from d104-Book of Comparative Anatomy, Vol. 2 The fact that this second volume of the translation appears four years after the first is due partly to the delay in the issue of the third and fourth German parts of which it is composed, and partly to the increased difficulty in the work of translation. A comparison of the two volumes will show at a glance that the work has developed under the hands of the author: the treatment has become more elaborate. The two "chapters" which practically fill this volume are in reality more like comprehensive treatises on the groups with which they deal, and as such could only be adequately translated from the German by some one with a very special knowledge of both groups. There are probably few zoologists who have attempted to make a special study of two such heterogeneous phyla as the Mollusca and the Echinodermata. In addition, therefore, to frequent references to the original literature and to constant applications to kind friends, the whole of the text relating to the two chief groups was submitted to specialists for revision. The translators beg to tender their warmest thanks to their friends who kindly undertook this laborious task. Mr. B. B. Woodward read the text of the chapter dealing with the Mollusca, revising the terminology, and suggesting slight alterations, which have been either adopted without comment in the text or else placed in short footnotes. Mr. W. Percy Sladen and Mr. F. A. Bather revised the text dealing with the Echinodermata, each with special reference to the group with which his name is most associated. Thanks are also due to Professor Jeffery Bell for his kind assistance in the solution of difficulties. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
