This book was released on 2021-03-23 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "“Based on impressive multi-archival work and a keen sense for a good narrative, the author introduces us to the complex, interlocking networks of the littleknown Atlantik-Brücke and the American Council on Germany. A fantastic addition to our understanding of the ‘Transnational Transatlantic’ in the 20th century” - Giles Scott-Smith, Roosevelt Chair in New Diplomatic History, Leiden University, The Netherlands "An original and insightful book exploring how two transatlantic networks worked to improve and solidify West Germany’s relationship with the United States in the aftermath of World War II- transnational history at its best.” - Deborah Barton, Assistant Professor of History, University of Montreal, Canada Revisiting the relationship between the USA and Germany following the Second World War, this book offers a new perspective and focuses on the influence of two organisations in accelerating West Germany’s integration into the Atlantic Alliance. Tracing the Atlantik-Brücke and the American Council on Germany’s (ACG) origins to the late 1940s and tracking their development and activities throughout the 1950s-70s, this book covers new ground in German-American historiography by bridging public and private relations and introducing central actors that have previously been hidden from academic debate. The author unveils and examines dense transatlantic elite networks that allowed Germany to re-join the ‘community of nations,’ regain sovereignty, and become a trusted member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO). Analysing transatlantic relations through the lens of the intertwined history of the Atlantik-Brücke and the ACG, this book explores public-private networks on a transnational level, providing valuable reading for those studying political history, European and American post-war relations and the Cold War.
Book Synopsis Religion, Community, and Education by : Mohd. Sanjeer Alam
Download or read book Religion, Community, and Education written by Mohd. Sanjeer Alam and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2012-01-27 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Religion-based educational disparities, especially relative educational backwardness amongst the Muslims in India, are the focus of serious debate. The 2006 Sachar Committee Report rekindled public interest and attention in this important issue. Yet, considerable gaps exist in our understanding of the dynamics of religion and access to education. In Religion, Community, and Education, Alam uses a spatial approach and multilayered analytical framework to understand educational disparities in schooling between the Hindus and Muslims in Bihar. The study draws upon national-level data as well as focused fieldwork carried out in Bihar's Patna and Purnia districts. This book highlights the larger historical trajectories that have shaped educational development as well as the forms of disparities therein vis-à-vis the minorities in India. It contends that the relative educational backwardness of the Muslims reflects underlying socio-economic patterns that are often overlooked. Thus, the Muslims should not be seen merely as homogeneous socio-cultural aggregates.
Book Synopsis Community Governance in China by : Wu Xiaolin
Download or read book Community Governance in China written by Wu Xiaolin and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-10-02 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an overview of China’s distinctive community governance, examining its 2000-year history and describing its recent development under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. The book presents new insights into community governance in China. It explores the historical genesis of community governance in imperial China, providing a link that helps to understand the relationship between ancient and modern community governance. By explaining the practical differences between “centralised governance” and “networked governance” in these contexts, it moves away from the myth of Tönniesian community and dissects the conceptual differences between Chinese and Western communities. This book is unique in its focus on the economic structure that underlies community governance and its identification of the root cause. It also investigates China’s “poli-community” and the relationship between the state, society, and the family. Finally, the book proposes a potential approach for transitioning from a binary opposition between the state and society to a new mechanism of “state-created society” and building “associated communities”. This volume will be a valuable reference for scholars and students of Chinese politics, public management, and sociology, as well as for practitioners of community governance.

This report is one of six in a series presenting the first-ever comparative data on curriculum at the content level. It summarises existing literature, explores trends in curriculum adaptation, addresses challenges and strategies for effective implementation and offers policy insights drawn from real-world experiences of curriculum reforms. This report explores curriculum flexibility and autonomy in global education systems, assessing how curricula adapt to diverse educational needs and contexts. It maps the stakeholders who influence decision-making on curriculum flexibility and discusses dilemmas faced by policymakers and practitioners between curriculum prescription and autonomy. Drawing on international examples, it illustrates how flexible curricula can enhance teaching effectiveness and inclusivity. It emphasises key strategies such as enhanced teacher training and collaborative policymaking, necessary for flexible curricula to meet educational needs. It also identifies critical factors, such as clear goals, accountability mechanisms, and societal support, which are crucial for successful curriculum implementation.
