Book excerpt: Mythic Game Master Emulator Create dynamic role-playing adventures without preparationFor use as a supplement with other systems NOTE: This product provides the Game Master Emulation rules found in Mythic, a product that contains emulation rules and a full, universal role playing game. Mythic Game Master Emulator is for those who do not want the universal role-playing rules, but just the game master emulator at a reduced price. Mythic Game Master Emulator is a supplement meant to be played with your favorite role-playing games. Most Role-Playing Games operate under the principle that there are players and there is a Game Master. The GM prepares all the details of an adventure, and then "runs" the players through that adventure. This usually requires a great deal of preparation on the part of the GM. Mythic is different in that it requires no preparation from the GM. Mythic adventures are meant to be played off the cuff, with perhaps a few minutes of brainstorming to come up with the initial setup. Mythic can also be played entirely without a GM. The same mechanics in Mythic that allow a GM to run an adventure without preparation also allows a group of players to do without the GM. In a Mythic adventure, the GM (or players without a GM) can start an evening's entertainment with about five minutes of preparation. As the adventure unfolds, the GM is just as surprised by the twists and turns as the players are. There are various ways in which Mythic can be used: No GM, multiple players Players decide on an opening scenario, and perhaps a few details or two, and Mythic takes it from there. All action is decided through the asking of yes/no questions and the application of logical principles. By answering questions, the adventure moves along, with the occasional random event throwing players a curve ball. The action is broken into scenes, just like in a movie, to keep everything straight. No GM, one player Mythic can be used to go solo. Solo play in Mythic works the same as group play. You're just alone. One GM, any number of players For those who like to be a GM, we have something for you, too. The same tools that allow Mythic to automatically generate adventures on the fly without a GM also work with a GM. This means very little to zero preparation, if you don't want to prepare. Simply create an opening scenario (hey, you can come up with that on the drive over!) and follow Mythic as it guides you along. Mythic will throw in its own twists and turns, so the GM will be just as shocked as the players.

Trapped one hundred years in Minecraft’s past, Gameknight999 struggles to keep his real identity a secret from the villagers of long ago, all while preparing them for battle. Herobrine’s forces are getting closer every day, advancing across the Overworld and leaving a path of destruction in their wake. Furious at Gameknight’s unexpected meddling, the evil virus takes revenge, creating the terrifying shadow-crafters. He gives these strange NPCs of darkness the power to build super-monsters, servants of Herobrine that are meaner, stronger, and more dangerous than anything Minecraft has ever seen before. As casualties mount, it’s clear that every last bit of the villagers’ strength and bravery will be tested before the dust settles. Even worse, in the heat of battle the User-that-is-not-a-user will come face to face with Herobrine’s most terrible creation, a monster from his nightmares he thought he would never have to face again… Sky Pony Press, with our Good Books, Racehorse and Arcade imprints, is proud to publish a broad range of books for young readers—picture books for small children, chapter books, books for middle grade readers, and novels for young adults. Our list includes bestsellers for children who love to play Minecraft; stories told with LEGO bricks; books that teach lessons about tolerance, patience, and the environment, and much more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home.

There are new monsters that he’s never seen before: giants and skeleton druids and pinch beetles and king spiders and mistwolves. Villages are larger than ever, and more heavily fortified; Minecraft had become much more dangerous. Even the very trees had changed, with some of them reaching up taller than the User-that-is-not-a-user ever thought was imaginable. There’s a diamond block portal outside of Crafter’s village, and rumors are spreading that a strange user was seen coming out of the portal with a young boy, before they disappeared into another portal, leaving behind a square hole one block deep with a ring of flowers around it. Gameknight recognizes it as the portal to reach the Twilight Forest mod. But how can there be mods here in the vanilla Minecraft? The User-that-is-not-a-user follows the trail, and finds odd mentions of “303” and “White Castle.” But what do the clues mean? Just how dangerous is this new user to Minecraft, and where is he taking the young NPC? Only Gameknight999 will be able to find out. Book excerpt: Stan can't afford to have his brain removed. The richest and luckiest players of the video game "Thousand Tales" get their minds uploaded to its virtual paradise world, while Stan can barely buy a handheld console. Instead of sulking he plays, and grows, becoming a skilled craftsman and seafaring explorer. The game's ruling AI, Ludo, helps him find the hope and inspiration missing from his real life. When the AI starts asking for favors and having him reach out between the real and digital worlds, Stan has a chance to turn his life into an actual adventure. But first he needs to earn the most valuable prize of all: his freedom."Crafter's Passion" is part of the emerging "LitRPG" or "GameLit" genre, combining science fiction with the world of gaming.-----On Island East-2 stood Stan, in the dungeon, with the rickety raft. He dragged it out to the beach, scavenged more wood and some interesting shells, and paddled his way back west. The raft disintegrated just as he got within sight of East-1. He held onto a chunk of wood to help him float but couldn't carry the rest in his pack. All he could do was start swimming! A scary fish swerved into his path but he managed to detour until it lost interest. Finally he sprawled onto the beach with a bunch of stat penalties for being wet and tired. Belatedly he realized, "I probably ruined everything in my backpack."A note said, [Nearly everything you're carrying is safe, like coins and a sealed bottle, but that can be a problem with other items. There are several ways to get waterproofing.]That sounded reasonable. He'd assumed that jumping into the water with a load of items was harmless, but that was his own fault. "Fine."He headed west to Central Island across the bridge. So far he just had that crude backpack full of loot, and he couldn't carry much more without a better pack. He looked over the junky resources he'd scavenged, then the items he'd looted off his party members' bodies. None of the equipment was listed as magical, and the item descriptions were starting to give him more serious labels like [Crude Wooden Bow] for Alaya's weapon. Even he could probably make something better with a little practice. He could make something better! That could be fun. Besides, he'd swiped this gear from people he'd agreed to help, so maybe he could replace or upgrade the stuff by way of apology. Stan headed over to the Crown & Tail's workbench to give it a try. Along the way he jumped around for the fun of bounding up the sunny shore. He tapped the bench of tools and tried to fix up some items, but it buzzed at him. [Equipment repairs require access to improved crafting stations.]The bartender directed him to the "maker workshop" a ways inland from the beach. It looked like an old fort, a squat wooden cabin surrounded by a spiky wall of logs. Why not a giant golden palace? Probably it had been built by the players using the game's own physics. That was pretty neat. He walked right in through the open gate.Inside was a craftsman's playground. Saws, drills and other tools covered some of the tables. A whole corner was devoted to colorful glassware and bubbling fluids. A green-robed figure was busy at that alchemy station, pouring beakers one into another and making puffs of steam. The only other person here was a smith in a leather apron and goggles, making a pleasant rhythmic ringing of metal. Behind him loomed a forge where slabs of metal were glowing cherry-red.Stan looked around and asked, "Is this stuff open to the community?"The alchemist turned around. He had deep violet scales like a dragon on his nearly human face, and waved with hands that were clawed and scaled like gloves that stopped near his wrists. "Yeah, but it's expected that you pay five copper a day." A sign on the wall called that a suggested donation.Stan grumbled. "I've just started to get money." But he could pay, and he'd gotten the money by fair play...

Book excerpt: OSR Solo rules These rules are intended to allow you to play an OSR, in this case meaning 0D&D, B/X style games, without a Dungeon Master. game you will get using these rules will be a sandbox-style adventure, you will not need to do any Dungeon Master [DM] style preparation although having a few stock NPCs or appropriate levels would be helpful. No DM? The normal cycle of play is that the DM describes the scene and asks what do you do? The players describe their actions. The DM describes the effects of those actions and the cycle repeats. In solo play there is just the single character and no DM. You start by imagining your character in the game setting and play them through all the social interactions, all the NPCs and events that would normally come up. At some point you will reach a point where you would normally ask your DM for more information. Are there any guards? Are there any ways out? What can you hear? At this point the solo rules come into play. You pitch your question in a Yes/No format. The solo rules will then return an answer to your question much like a Magic 8 Ball toy. It is then down to you and your improv. skills to decide what does this answer mean right now? Often the first thing that comes into your head is the answer to go with. If you just got yes and no answers things would get boring quite quickly. These rules are designed to throw up twists and turns into your character's story. is a perfect way to learn a new game, test your first adventures and going beyond just making characters when you are first getting to know the rules
