Book Synopsis Garth Evans Sculpture by : Garth Evans
Download or read book Garth Evans Sculpture written by Garth Evans and published by Philip Wilson Publishers. This book was released on 2013-03-25 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Garth Evans is a sculptor as capable of evoking intimacy and simplicity as he is of dealing with the monumental and the timeless. This complete survey of his unique career is long overdue, and reveals a wealth of innovative and powerful work, much of it previously unseen in print. As narratives of British sculpture are reconsidered, Evans is emerging as one of the most creative and influential artists to bridge the generation of Antony Caro and Philip King with that of Tony Cragg, Richard Deacon, Antony Gormley, Alison Wilding and Bill Woodrow. This investigation into Evans's hugely varied, visually eventful and challenging practice explores connections across geographies and timeframes as well as contextualizing major changes and new departures in his work. Garth Evans was born in Manchester in 1934 and settled in the USA at the midpoint of his career. He has exhibited widely in Europe and America since the early 1960s, and his work is represented in major public and private collections in Australia, Brazil, Portugal, USA and UK (including the Arts Council Collection, Leeds City Art Galleries, the British Museum, the V&A and Tate). Evans has been the recipient of numerous awards as well as holding a number of distinguished teaching positions. Since 1988, he has taught at the Studio School in New York City where he is head of sculpture.
Book Synopsis Trenton Doyle Hancock by : Trenton Doyle Hancock
Download or read book Trenton Doyle Hancock written by Trenton Doyle Hancock and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Best known for his exuberant paintings centered around semitragic fictional characters called the Mounds, Trenton Boyle Hancock (born 1974) is also a prolific draftsman. The first in-depth examination of his drawings, collages and works on paper, this comprehensive survey brings together works made between 1984 and 2014. Tracing the evolution of Hancock's vision by showing the genesis of his mythology, including that of the epic Mound saga, and his wide range of high and low influences (comics, graphic novels, cartoons, music and film, as well as visual art), this catalogue demonstrates the fundamental, continuing importance of drawing in Hancock's work up to the present day. Also included in this volume is a 32-page comic book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the accompanying publication to the largest exhibition of contemporary art ever assembled in the U.S., the Prospect.1 New Orleans catalogue is one of the most sought-after art books of 2008-09. Featuring new illustrated essays on New Orleans and its place in twenty-first century America by Prospect.1 organizer Dan Cameron, art historian Barbara Bloemink, journalist Lolis Eric Elie and curator Claire Tancons, the book also includes a fully illustrated section on each of the 81 participating artists, who include William Kentridge, Trenton Doyle Hancock, Fred Tomaselli, Cai Guo Qiang, Sanford Biggers, Tony Fitzpatrick, Amy Sillman, Malick Sidibe, Clare E. Rojas and Monica Bonvicini, among many others. Locating contemporary art in the cauldron that is New Orleans adds a new dimension to the book and its visuals: It's an incisive statement on art making and humanity today. Dan Cameron, the Director and Curator of Prospect.1 New Orleans, is an international New York-based curator who was inspired to organize an exhibition in New Orleans shortly after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Cameron has been a frequent visitor to New Orleans since the late 1980s, and he organized the 1995 New Orleans Triennial for the New Orleans Museum of Art. In May 2007 Cameron took on the position of Visual Arts Director at the New Orleans Contemporary Arts Center (CAC), one of the leading venues for new art in the South, and a principal venue for Prospect.1 New Orleans.

Book Synopsis Donald Baechler. XL+XS. Catalogo della mostra (Isernia, 16 ottobre-1 dicembre 2009). Ediz. italiana e inglese by : Donald Baechler
Download or read book Donald Baechler. XL+XS. Catalogo della mostra (Isernia, 16 ottobre-1 dicembre 2009). Ediz. italiana e inglese written by Donald Baechler and published by Silvana Editoriale. This book was released on 2009 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
