Download or read book Effective SMEs written by Dale Ludwig and published by Association for Talent Development. This book was released on 2017-11-07 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Content expertise isn't enough for the training room. Partnering with subject matter experts can really pay off. SMEs (we pronounce it smees) bring credibility and relevance to live training. They enrich learning programs with their insight and depth of experience. But content expertise alone isn't enough to deliver effective training. . . . SMEs want to do well in the classroom, but it's often unfamiliar terrain. They're authorities on content, not talent development. Without guidance, they may overshare or find themselves unable to facilitate a productive discussion---all of which frustrate learners. But, with the right approach, you can bring SMEs into the training room successfully, in a way that makes learners, instructors, and managers feel like their goals are being met. Effective SMEs: A Trainer's Guide for Helping Subject Matter Experts Facilitate Learning is the blueprint to managing SME-led training. Authors Dale Ludwig and Greg Owen-Boger offer first-rate advice gleaned from decades helping presenters, instructional designers, and SMEs become better communicators. Underlying all their tips is their belief that SMEs and instructional designers must get comfortable with each other's role. The authors lay the groundwork for you, describing the fundamental principles of a successful training event and the personal approach they contend every SME and ID bring to the training table. You'll discover how to design learning events with the needs of SMEs in mind. And you'll try out best practices for coaching SMEs to deliver training efficiently and effectively. The authors also share detailed and relatable workplace scenarios drawn from their vast business experience as well as job aids to assist you in a variety of learning situations. Effective SMEs is the rare book that addresses both designing for SMEs to deliver training and coaching them to be effective once they're in the training room. Don't plan your next live training event without it.

This book was released on 2018-08-14 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientific Essay from the year 2018 in the subject Business economics - Controlling, , language: English, abstract: One of a company's competitive advantages is its organizational ability to use strategically important competencies for its own innovation and value creation processes. In this way it improves its competitiveness. Many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) do not use this opportunity for more growth. The companies surveyed clearly indicated that they usually have no local conditions and resources of their own to develop competence development strategies and to follow them up on transfer success and measure them for success in further training. The structures and processes for personnel development and thus the internal services for changes and innovations in the operative processes are hardly developed in these companies. The assessment of success by the training companies commissioned with the implementation of qualification and development measures is limited to the learning field. In order to ensure knowledge transfer, however, it would be necessary to extend further training controlling to the fields of activity of the participants. After all, it is not only a question of whether the participant has acquired a learning success, but whether he is in a position to implement the learning success. Benefit-oriented evaluations, i.e. evaluations of the success of qualification measures from the economic perspective hardly play a role in practice. The low equity ratio in SMEs hampers investment in professional skills development. Last but not least, there is a lack of marketable services to support innovation processes in SMEs. How can the development of skills for innovation processes in SMEs be promoted by innovative continuing training companies and how can the success of continuing vocational training be measured and evaluated for the company, its employees and the participants? A strategic field of action for continuing training companies is the systematic development of tailor-made services to support learning in dialogue with SMEs. Their wishes and needs are the starting point and the benefit, the goal of the development process in which they are integrated as customers by the training companies. The concept of "Innovation and Value Creation Partnership" (IWP) is a model for systematic service development in continuing training companies.

Download or read book Evaluating Training Programs for Small and Medium Enterprises written by Hong Tan and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2005 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "While there have been numerous impact evaluations of unemployed individuals participating in retraining programs or in programs to foster self-employment, impact evaluations of enterprises benefiting from training programs for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are rare. The authors reevaluate the impact of the largest SME program in Mexico, the Comprehensive Quality and Modernization Program (CIMO). They show that compared to the control group, CIMO firms increased investments in worker training, had higher rates of capacity utilization, and were more likely to adopt quality practices. The evidence also suggests that these improved intermediate outcomes were associated with increased productivity growth among CIMO participants, impacts that were especially strong throughout the 1991-93 period. However, the productivity impacts of CIMO are not apparent in the 1993-95 period. "--World Bank web site.
