Book Synopsis Comparative Takeover Regulation by : Umakanth Varottil
Download or read book Comparative Takeover Regulation written by Umakanth Varottil and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2017-10-26 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While Western economies generally display dispersed shareholding in listed companies, Asian economies commonly have concentrated shareholding also in publicly listed companies. The principal analysis in Comparative Takeover Regulation relates to the role of takeover regulation in different economies. In the Asian context, the nature of takeover regulation may necessitate a different approach, with greater emphasis on the mandatory bids and disclosure of substantial shareholding. The likelihood of hostile takeovers will be minimal. It is these differences among various jurisdictions that strike at the heart of Varottil and Wan's new work. Ideal for educational institutions that teach corporate law, corporate governance, and mergers and acquisitions, as well as for law firms, corporate counsel and other practitioners, Comparative Takeover Regulation provides students and scholars with brand new analysis of this increasingly important field of study.

Book Synopsis Cosmopolitan Archaeologies by : Lynn Meskell
Download or read book Cosmopolitan Archaeologies written by Lynn Meskell and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2009-04-17 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An important collection, Cosmopolitan Archaeologies delves into the politics of contemporary archaeology in an increasingly complex international environment. The contributors explore the implications of applying the cosmopolitan ideals of obligation to others and respect for cultural difference to archaeological practice, showing that those ethics increasingly demand the rethinking of research agendas. While cosmopolitan archaeologies must be practiced in contextually specific ways, what unites and defines them is archaeologists’ acceptance of responsibility for the repercussions of their projects, as well as their undertaking of heritage practices attentive to the concerns of the living communities with whom they work. These concerns may require archaeologists to address the impact of war, the political and economic depredations of past regimes, the livelihoods of those living near archaeological sites, or the incursions of transnational companies and institutions. The contributors describe various forms of cosmopolitan engagement involving sites that span the globe. They take up the links between conservation, natural heritage and ecology movements, and the ways that local heritage politics are constructed through international discourses and regulations. They are attentive to how communities near heritage sites are affected by archaeological fieldwork and findings, and to the complex interactions that local communities and national bodies have with international sponsors and universities, conservation agencies, development organizations, and NGOs. Whether discussing the toll of efforts to preserve biodiversity on South Africans living near Kruger National Park, the ways that UNESCO’s global heritage project universalizes the ethic of preservation, or the Open Declaration on Cultural Heritage at Risk that the Archaeological Institute of America sent to the U.S. government before the Iraq invasion, the contributors provide nuanced assessments of the ethical implications of the discursive production, consumption, and governing of other people’s pasts. Book Synopsis Strategic Leadership for Business Value Creation by : Don Argus
Download or read book Strategic Leadership for Business Value Creation written by Don Argus and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-13 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on leadership and strategy, corporate governance, operational excellence, and corporate social responsibility. In doing so, it offers both conceptual perspectives and case studies on these topics that are targeted at business executives who want to develop and mature towards being successful value creators in their leadership roles. Authored by the former CEO of National Australia Bank (NAB), Don Argus, and business school professor Danny Samson, the book provides insights on the strategic leadership factors that make a significant and positive difference when they are executed effectively and, in contrast, what happens when ineffective leadership/ strategy are deployed. It proposes and illustrates core leadership axioms, and also delves into sustainable development as an element of strategy. The authors do this by developing and illustrating core concepts that relate to the two major case study companies of NAB and BHP. Readers will be particularly interested in the core elements of leadership and strategy, and the grounded reality of how they operated in the case studies. The authors bring insiders’ and leaders’ perspectives to these topics, including tables that document shareholder value creation, and the logic behind strategic decisions, as well as key organisational leadership and strategic decision processes.
Book Synopsis Courts of Final Jurisdiction by : Cheryl Saunders
Download or read book Courts of Final Jurisdiction written by Cheryl Saunders and published by Federation Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Mason Court ushered in a new age of Australian jurisprudence. Adopting a more explicit style of judicial reasoning, it drew its precedents from a wider range of jurisdictions and presided over new directions in Australian law in areas ranging from contract to constitutional and equity to native title. Why did this happen and where will it lead? Why are courts overseas feeling similar pressures and how are they reacting? The papers in this book, conceived as a tribute to Sir Anthony Mason, debate the role of courts of final jurisdiction and of their chief justices at the end of the 20th century.
