Book excerpt: Failure of Materials in Mechanical Design: Analysis, Prediction, Prevention, 2nd Edition, covers the basic principles of failure of metallic and non-metallic materials in mechanical design applications. Updated to include new developments on fracture mechanics, including both linear-elastic and elastic-plastic mechanics. Contains new material on strain and crack development and behavior. Emphasizes the potential for mechanical failure brought about by the stresses, strains and energy transfers in machine parts that result from the forces, deflections and energy inputs applied.
Book Synopsis The Physical Metallurgy of Cobalt-base Superalloys by : H J Wagner
Download or read book The Physical Metallurgy of Cobalt-base Superalloys written by H J Wagner and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A detailed picture is presented of the physical and chemical phenomena that affect the behavior of cobalt-base superalloys. Solid-solution strengthening is obtained from the high-melting metallic elements molybdenum, tungsten, tantalum, and columbium. These elements also participate in precipitation reactions involving their carbides. Precipitation of intermetallic compounds such as Ni3Ti is an important process in cobalt alloys containing appreciable amounts of nickel and titanium. The relationships among microstructure, heat treatment, and mechanical properties of the important commercial alloys are considered, and whenever possible, explained on the basis of the physical and chem cal processes that occur. Book Synopsis Aerospace Materials and Material Technologies by : N. Eswara Prasad
Download or read book Aerospace Materials and Material Technologies written by N. Eswara Prasad and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-07 with total page 557 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book serves as a comprehensive resource on various traditional, advanced and futuristic material technologies for aerospace applications encompassing nearly 20 major areas. Each of the chapters addresses scientific principles behind processing and production, production details, equipment and facilities for industrial production, and finally aerospace application areas of these material technologies. The chapters are authored by pioneers of industrial aerospace material technologies. This book has a well-planned layout in 4 parts. The first part deals with primary metal and material processing, including nano manufacturing. The second part deals with materials characterization and testing methodologies and technologies. The third part addresses structural design. Finally, several advanced material technologies are covered in the fourth part. Some key advanced topics such as “Structural Design by ASIP”, “Damage Mechanics-Based Life Prediction and Extension” and “Principles of Structural Health Monitoring” are dealt with at equal length as the traditional aerospace materials technology topics. This book will be useful to students, researchers and professionals working in the domain of aerospace materials.

Download or read book Fatigue Design written by Carl C. Osgood and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 617 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fatigue Design, Second Edition discusses solutions of previous problems in fatigue as controlled by their particular conditions. The book aims to demonstrate the limitations of some methods and explores the realism and validity of the resulting solutions. The text is comprised of four chapters that tackle a specific area of concern. Chapter 1 provides the introduction and covers the scope, level, and limitations of the book. Chapter 2 deals with the characteristics of design approach, and Chapter 3 talks about the prediction of fatigue life. The last chapter discusses the general factors in fatigue. The book will be of great interest to researchers and professionals concerned with fatigue analysis, such as engineers and designers.

Book Synopsis Dynamic Stability of Vehicles Traversing Ascending Or Descending Paths Through the Atmosphere by : Murray Tobak
Download or read book Dynamic Stability of Vehicles Traversing Ascending Or Descending Paths Through the Atmosphere written by Murray Tobak and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 664 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis is given of the oscillatory motions of vehicles which traverse ascending and descending paths through the atmosphere at high speed. The specific case of a skip path is examined in detail, and this leads to a form of solution for the oscillatory motion which should recur over any trajectory. The distinguishing feature of this form is the appearance of the Bessel rather than the trigonometric function as the characteristic mode of oscillation.

Book Synopsis Bibliography on the Fatigue of Materials, Components and Structures by : J. Y. Mann
Download or read book Bibliography on the Fatigue of Materials, Components and Structures written by J. Y. Mann and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bibliography on the Fatigue of Materials, Components and Structures, Volume 2 is a list of references on the above subject spanning the years 1951-1960. The list of references is arranged chronologically according to the book's or paper's publication year. The Bibliography then lists the surname of the first author alphabetically in the respective year. When a paper gives no authors, it is listed at the end of the alphabetical listing of that year, in order of the publication date. The Bibliography also provides a subject and author index. The description that the volume uses is based on the titles of the paper or book. The text also lists the title in the original language of the paper, followed by an English translation. The volume contains more than 1,000 published materials from 30 countries. The topics these references cover are on the fundamental research made in the fatigue of materials; the determination of fatigue properties; the utilization of a different manufacturing methods; the various formulations to overcome occurrence of problems; and the development of design techniques. The style of numbering followed in this volume is a continuation of the numbering system used in Volume 1. The Bibliography can be used by physicists, scientists, and materials engineers to gain access to a wide variety of books, papers, and research on the above subject.
