Book Synopsis The History and the Future of the Roman Liturgy by : Denis Crouan
Download or read book The History and the Future of the Roman Liturgy written by Denis Crouan and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the Second Vatican Council, the liturgy has become the source of conflicting opinions. This situation has given rise to disputes that continue to divide those who practice their faith. But what has created this state of affairs? Author Denis Crouan shows how the decisions made by Vatican II that aimed at restoring the Roman rite were presented poorly, applied incorrectly, and often not applied at all. In many places the Mass has been turned into a permanent work-in-progress, in which the objectivity of the liturgy yields to the subjectivity of those who take part in it. Where does the current unwillingness to apply the liturgical rules come from? Why have the directives of the last council been ignored or circumvented? This book offers answers to the questions asked by Catholics who want to understand their liturgy better, so as to put an end to deviant practices that threaten Church unity.

Download or read book Symphonie V written by Charles Marie Widor and published by A-R Editions, Inc.. This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Charles-Marie Widor continued to develop the genre of the organ symphony in his second set of four works, published as Symphonies pour orgue, opus 42 (1878-87). The introduction to this edition of Widor's Symphonie V includes a list of the sources, a statement of editorial policies, and information about Widor's registrations. Symphonie V in F Minor seems to have been one of Widor's favorites, as he often performed it complete. The work is in five movements, including the famous Toccata finale. Had Widor composed no other organ music, this symphony alone would have assured him a permanent place in the repertoire. (Revised 2nd edition.)" --

Book Synopsis Visions of Eternity by : Michael R Bundy
Download or read book Visions of Eternity written by Michael R Bundy and published by Troubador Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2017-06-20 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: sions of Eternity is the companion volume to Prophets without Honour (Matador, 2011) which explored the forgotten mélodies of Charles-Marie Widor, Louis Vierne and Charles Tournemire. The present work continues that study but with regard to the largely unknown choral works and operas by these same composers: it also expands upon the mores of Parisian Musical society, 1870-1939, and discusses in greater detail than before the prevalent influences and restrictions, which might have had a bearing on a young composer. Widor’s printed and unpublished works are discussed, as are those of his pupil Louis Vierne alongside a more detailed, and possibly provocative, discussion of the latter’s life and loves, and their relevance to that composer’s compositions. His completely unknown ‘cantate lyrique’ Praxinoë is also revealed. The greater part of Visions of Eternity is given over to a discussion of the influences that affected another of Widor’s pupils, Charles Tournemire, in both temporal and theological terms. His individual musical language, discussing both his use of traditional Latin and Indian chants, quixotic character and amours are also investigated. This is a book of great musical relevance, for it deals with composers and issues which greatly influenced later French musicians, particularly Maurice Duruflé, Jean Yves Daniel-Lesur, Jean Langlais and Olivier Messiaen: these, in turn, passed their knowledge to more contemporary composers. Whilst this book has been researched in great depth, its content is delivered with a light, occasionally humorous touch. This is not a dry, academic work, but one for both the cognoscenti and enthusiast alike.
