Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summary of Fast This Way Dave Asprey is at it again. He has written another bestseller focusing on fasting and its numerous advantages. He comprehensively analyzes fasting not only from research but from what he has experienced in his own life. The book is a beautiful guide for beginners who want to incorporate fasting into their lifestyle. When people talk of taking a fast, the thing that comes to mind usually is the spiritual aspect common in most religions. That is just one aspect of it, and research now shows why fasting has been constant throughout the millennia. Asprey discloses multi-faceted fasting elements, why, and how to do fasting right in the book. The prologue section begins by analyzing the dynamics between hunger and craving. Asprey shows us how he managed to go for four days without food when he was starting. This was something he had imagined biologically impossible, given his current state of the body. If anything, his body thrived during this conquest, and he was able to conquer his fears and restore the relationship he had with food. His quest to find liberty from his bondage to food was a success. If it worked for him, it would definitely work for you. The key is fasting! The imaginations are all in your brain at the end of the day. More specifically, those irrational thoughts that you will die of starvation if you skip a few meals originate from the amygdala section of the brain. Intermittent fasting gives you complete control of that section of the brain making fasting easy, efficient, manageable, and above all, FUN! Let’s kick it off and see how to work on that brain of yours. Here is a Preview of What You Will Get: ⁃ A Full Book Summary ⁃ An Analysis ⁃ Fun quizzes ⁃ Quiz Answers ⁃ Etc. Book excerpt: NOTE: This is an unofficial summary & analysis of Dave Asprey's "Summary of Fast This Way" designed to offer an in-depth look at this book so you can appreciate it even more. Smart Reads is responsible for this summary content and is not associated with the original author in any way. It contains:-Chapter by chapter summaries-Trivia questions-Discussion questions And much more! Dave Asprey is not your average author, and the reader gains a sense of this almost immediately. In Fast This Way, a prominent linear narrative describes Asprey's journey on a vision quest. The vision quest parallels nicely with the concept of fasting - they are both journeys and involve some trial and error; they can also be dangerous if you are unprepared! Way before he took a vision quest in Arizona, during which he enlisted the help of a shaman, Dave trained in Tibet amongst folks who fasted regularly. It was here that he was spiritually introduced to fasting, up in the mountains, and discovered such delicacies as yak butter. In other words, Dave committed himself to the life of an experimental, DIY, self-made, self-help expert. With all his work, he immerses himself into the content about which he writes; and this expertise is communicated in tone, style, and content. Furthermore, Asprey is someone who fasts regularly and lost one hundred pounds through his Bulletproof Diet, of which he is the founder and chairman. In a personal sense, Asprey is someone who draws from experience, often touching on situations that are uncomfortable or hard to deal with, such as eating obsessions, and many kinds of addictions. This enhances his ability to make interesting and compelling cases for fasting - specifically intermittent or alternating, fasting - for the common person. In a professional sense, Asprey preaches what he practices, often tying in his personal experiences to what he would advise - and often this involves a ton of nuance and recommendations to consult your dietician. Bulletproof is a successful brand with tons of customers willing to give the bulletproof, intermittent fasting lifestyle a shot! Fast This Way came out in January 2021. It's a timely and topical read, given that most people are stuck in lockdown (due to COVID-19) in some sense, and are getting contemplative - especially about what they are eating. Not that this trend is new in light of a raging pandemic - folks have been stressing about what they put in their bodies for generations now, and for good reason. The book sets itself apart from other books with its unique approach to the self-help genre. It is part of four books that make up the Bulletproof saga, which follows biohacking, often making full use of Asprey's Bulletproof Diet, a regiment which he created. Fast This Way pairs well with his self-titled website, which contains extensive information which does well to add to the dialogues occurring throughout the book. And in these ways, the impact of the book is proportional to how immersed the reader/customer is willing to get inside of Asprey's head. That inside perspective begins with his writings, and they are entertaining to boot.

What does this SNAP Summary Include? - Synopsis of the original book - Key takeaways from each chapter - The science behind how and why intermittent fasting works - Specific hacks you can use to dial down cravings and hunger while fasting - Supplements, workouts, and other lifestyle changes that maximize the benefits of fasting - Editorial Review - Background on Dave Asprey About the Original Book: Intermittent fasting is one of the most popular health and fitness trends today, and for good reason. Studies have shown that it can help with everything from stabilizing blood sugar levels and reducing body weight to increasing endurance and improving mental health. But to help people achieve these benefits, fasting has to be both effective and sustainable. Drawing from science, ancient traditions, and personal experience, Asprey offers a blueprint anyone can use to maximize the benefits of intermittent fasting without feeling hungry and irritable or slogging through cravings and energy dips. Fasting, Asprey explains, does not have to be painful or even difficult for it to be therapeutic; anyone can create a custom fasting routine that is both easy and pleasurable, and it can offer as much as—perhaps more than—the traditional water-only fast. Book excerpt: In his mid-twenties, Dave Asprey was a successful Silicon Valley multimillionaire. He also weighed 300 pounds, despite the fact that he was doing what doctors recommended: eating 1,800 calories a day and working out 90 minutes a day, six times a week. When his excess fat started causing brain fog and food cravings sapped his energy and willpower, Asprey turned to the same hacking techniques that made his fortune to "hack" his own biology, investing more than $300,000 and 15 years to uncover what was hindering his energy, performance, appearance, and happiness. From private brain EEG facilities to remote monasteries in Tibet, through radioactive brain scans, blood chemistry work, nervous system testing, and more, he explored traditional and alternative technologies to reach his physical and mental prime. The result? The Bulletproof Diet, an anti-inflammatory program for hunger-free, rapid weight loss and peak performance. The Bulletproof Diet will challenge—and change—the way you think about weight loss and wellness. You will skip breakfast, stop counting calories, eat high levels of healthy saturated fat, work out and sleep less, and add smart supplements. In doing so, you'll gain energy, build lean muscle, and watch the pounds melt off. By ditching traditional "diet" thinking, Asprey went from being overweight and sick in his twenties to maintaining a 100-pound weight loss, increasing his IQ, and feeling better than ever in his forties. The Bulletproof Diet is your blueprint to a better life.

Book excerpt: From the creator of Bulletproof Coffee and author of the bestselling The Bulletproof Diet comes a revolutionary plan to upgrade your brainpower—in two weeks or less. For the last decade, Silicon Valley entrepreneur Dave Asprey has worked with world-renowned doctors and scientists to uncover the latest, most innovative methods for making humans perform better—a process known as "biohacking." In his first book, The Bulletproof Diet, he shared his biohacking tips for taking control of your own biology. Now, in Head Strong, Asprey shows readers how to biohack their way to a sharper, smarter, faster, more resilient brain. Imagine feeling like your mind is operating at its clearest and sharpest, and being able—possibly for the first time in your life—to do more in less time? What it suddenly became easier to do the very hardest things you do? Or if you could feel 100% confident about your intellect, and never again fear being the person in the room who just isn’t smart enough, or can’t remember something important? How would you treat people if the mood swings, short temper, and food cravings that disrupt your day could simply disappear? In Head Strong, Asprey shows us that all of this is possible—and more. Using his simple lifestyle modifications (or "hacks") to take advantage of how the structure of your brain works, readers will learn how to take their mental performance to the next level. Combining the latest findings in neuroscience and neurobiology with a hacker-inspired "get it done now" perspective, Asprey offers a program structured around key areas of brain performance that will help you: Power the brain with exactly what it needs to perform at its best all day long Eliminate the sources of "kryptonite," both nutritional and environmental, that make the brain slower. Supercharge the cellular powerhouses of our brains, the mitochondria, to eliminate cravings and turn up mental focus. Reverse inflammation to perform better right now, then stay sharp and energized well into your golden years. Promote neuron growth to enhance processing speed and reinforce new learning—hotwiring your brain for success. Asprey’s easy to follow, two-week program offers a detailed plan to supercharge brain performance, including: which foods to eat and which ones to avoid, how to incorporate the right kinds of physical activity into your day, a detox protocol for your home and body; meditation and breathing for performance, recommended brain-boosting supplements; and how to adjust the lighting in your home and work space to give your brain the quality light it thrives on. A better brain—and a happier, easier, more productive life—is within reach. You just need to get Head Strong.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the period between 1200 and 1500 in western Europe, a number of religious women gained widespread veneration and even canonization as saints for their extraordinary devotion to the Christian eucharist, supernatural multiplications of food and drink, and miracles of bodily manipulation, including stigmata and inedia (living without eating). The occurrence of such phenomena sheds much light on the nature of medieval society and medieval religion. It also forms a chapter in the history of women. Previous scholars have occasionally noted the various phenomena in isolation from each other and have sometimes applied modern medical or psychological theories to them. Using materials based on saints' lives and the religious and mystical writings of medieval women and men, Caroline Walker Bynum uncovers the pattern lying behind these aspects of women's religiosity and behind the fascination men and women felt for such miracles and devotional practices. She argues that food lies at the heart of much of women's piety. Women renounced ordinary food through fasting in order to prepare for receiving extraordinary food in the eucharist. They also offered themselves as food in miracles of feeding and bodily manipulation. Providing both functionalist and phenomenological explanations, Bynum explores the ways in which food practices enabled women to exert control within the family and to define their religious vocations. She also describes what women meant by seeing their own bodies and God's body as food and what men meant when they too associated women with food and flesh. The author's interpretation of women's piety offers a new view of the nature of medieval asceticism and, drawing upon both anthropology and feminist theory, she illuminates the distinctive features of women's use of symbols. Rejecting presentist interpretations of women as exploited or masochistic, she shows the power and creativity of women's writing and women's lives.

In The Warrior Diet, Ori Hofmekler looks not forward but backward for a solution–to the primal habits of early cultures such as nomads and hunter-gatherers, the Greeks, and the Romans. Based on survival science, this book proposes not ordinary dietary changes but rather a radical yet surprisingly simple lifestyle overhaul. Drawing on both scientific studies and historical data, Hofmekler argues that robust health and a lean, strong body can best be achieved by mimicking the classical warrior mode of cycling—working and eating sparingly (undereating) during the day and filling up at night. Specific elements from the Warrior Diet Nutritional Program (finding ideal fuel foods and food combinations to reduce body fat) to the Controlled Fatigue Training Program (promoting strength, speed, and resilience to fatigue through special drills), literally reshape body and mind. Individual chapters cover warrior meals and recipes; sex drive, potency, and animal magnetism; as well as personalizing the diet for women. Featuring forewords by Fit for Life author Harvey Diamond and Fat That Kills author Dr. Udo Erasmus, The Warrior Diet shows readers weary of fad diets how to attain enduring vigor, explosive strength, a better appearance, and increased vitality and health.

Book excerpt: The bestselling author of Head Strong and The Bulletproof Diet answers the question, “How can I kick more ass at life?” by culling the wisdom of world-class thought leaders, maverick scientists, and disruptive entrepreneurs to provide proven techniques for becoming happier, healthier, and smarter. When Dave Asprey started his Bulletproof Radio podcast more than five years ago, he sought out influencers in an array of disciplines, from biochemists toiling in unknown laboratories to business leaders changing the world to mediation masters discovering inner peace. His guests were some of the top performing humans in the world, people who had changed their areas of study or even pioneered entirely new fields. Dave wanted to know: What did they have in common? What mattered most to them? What made them so successful—and what made them tick? At the end of each interview, Dave asked the same question: “What are your top three recommendations for people who want to perform better at being human?” After performing a statistical analysis of the answers, he found that the wisdom gleaned from these highly successful people could be distilled into three main objectives: finding ways to become smarter, faster, and happier. Game Changers is the culmination of Dave’s years-long immersion in these conversations, offering 46 science-backed, high performance “laws” that are a virtual playbook for how to get better at life. With anecdotes from game changers like Dr. Daniel Amen, Gabby Bernstein, Dr. David Perlmutter, Arianna Huffington, Esther Perel, and Tim Ferris as well as examples from Dave’s own life, Game Changers offers readers practical advice they can put into action to reap immediate rewards. From taming fear and anxiety to making better decisions, establishing high-performance habits, and practicing gratitude and mindfulness, Dave brings together the wisdom of today’s game-changers to help everyone kick more ass at life.

This is the first book to address the emotional, spiritual, chemical, and physical components of this toxic relationship and help guide you through the steps to create a new and lasting relationship with food...and with yourself. Breaking Up with Sugar includes step-by-step meal plans to take the guesswork out of going Sugar-free, as well as seven key self-affirming vows you can rely on to help end the overeating and dieting cycle and release unhealthy weight. With empathy, honesty, and humor as your trusted coach and friend, Molly gives you essential tools to navigate this new way of eating when life gets "life-y" or times get tough. Her sustainable roadmap will put you on the path to true freedom.
