Book Synopsis Human Physiology by : Gillian Pocock
Download or read book Human Physiology written by Gillian Pocock and published by Elsevier España. This book was released on 2004 with total page 794 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The new edition of Human Physiology - an Oxford Core Text continues to meet the needs of preclinical medical students and is also of value to those following undergraduate courses in physiology and other health-related disciplines. It adopts a student-friendly style with an emphasis on clarity, explanation and understanding complemented by full-color illustrations. The book has a hierarchical organization, beginning with aspects of cell and tissue function before proceeding to a consideration of the communication systems of the body including the endocrine and nervous systems. The heart of the text concerns the physiology of the main body systems. The new edition has been significantly revised to include an expanded problem section at the end of each chapter with more quantitative examples and some clinical problems where appropriate. Each chapter has been updated and new material includes a section on the physiology of itch; more detailed treatment of colour vision, deafness and vestibular blindness; increased emphasis on neurology disorders; discussion of the physiology of respiratory failure and pulmonary embolism; a discussion of malabsorption disorders; extensive revision to cover the wider aspects of material physiology not just lactation, and extended treatment of fever. The Clinical Physiology chapter is now broken into several short chapters and includes a discussion of cardiovascular pathophysiology and organ failure.

Book Synopsis Calorimetric Methods for the Characterization of Porous Materials by : Juan Carlos Moreno-Piraján
Download or read book Calorimetric Methods for the Characterization of Porous Materials written by Juan Carlos Moreno-Piraján and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2024-04-01 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Calorimetric Methods for the Characterization of Porous Materials presents calorimetric methods used in the characterization of porous materials using chemical thermodynamics. Among these materials, catalysts, supports and adsorbents (such as Activated Carbon, Metal-Organic-Frameworks, SBA-15, Zeolites, Graphene, Graphite, Carbon Foams) are presented. In addition, the use of calorimetry in the study of catalytic reactions in different phases is explored—applicable to air and wastewater treatment, clean and renewable energies, green chemistry, as well as energy production and storage (Carbon dioxide, methane and hydrogen at high pressure). Chapters summarize basic concepts of thermodynamics and kinetics alongside experimental techniques such as thermal analysis and calorimetry. In addition, information is given about different calorimetric methods that can be used in studies aimed at characterizing the physicochemical properties of adsorbents, supports and solid catalysts, as well as the processes related to the adsorption-desorption phenomena of the reactants and/or products of catalytic reactions. - Addresses the problems involved with the chemical thermodynamics of porous materials, with a significant practical element explaining experimental parameters and how to perform calculations - Presents, in detail, the main instrumental calorimetric methods, including those that must be carefully considered to avoid experimental errors - Demonstrates, step-by-step, how to perform calculations using data obtained from instrumentation to achieve reliable results - Provides novel explanations on how to use calorimetry in catalyst characterization - Allows readers to broaden the spectrum of the application of calorimetry in the study of materials
Book Synopsis Polymer Rheology by : Jose Luis Rivera Armenta
Download or read book Polymer Rheology written by Jose Luis Rivera Armenta and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2018-10-03 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rheology is the science that studies the behavior of the flow of matter in a liquid state or soft solids under the application of stress or deformation to obtain a response to an applied force. In polymers, rheology is an important tool to understand behavior under processing conditions and to design equipment. Another application for rheology in the polymer field is to understand structure-property relationships by means of molecular weight, molecular weight distribution, stereochemistry, morphology, melt degradation, and performance under processing. This book covers the essential criteria for selecting the best test types for various applications and new developments, for accurately interpreting results, and for determining other areas where rheology and rheological phenomena may be useful in your work.
