Book excerpt: God blesses each of us with gifts and opportunities, and he encourages us to use these blessings for the glory of his kingdom. He has written out our stories before we were even born, and although what we want isnt always the same as what God wants for us, the stories of our lives are filled with opportunities to serve God and be the person he wants us to be. In A Play on Sundays, author, storyteller, and playwright C. Arturo Ariel shares three lighthearted dramatic plays that are centered on faith in God and Jesus Christ. Inspired by his time as a Sunday school teacher, these faith-based plays are fun to read and act out for children, parents, and adults of all ages. And while each play is focused on unique topics like inspiration, family, and salvation from sin, all three come together to weave an engaging, full story of faith and trust in God. God is always at the center of our lives, even when we arent sure. God always blesses us with talents and opportunities, even when we dont know our purpose. But with faith we can find God working through us and discover our purpose, and then we can act out the story of our lives, serving God and bringing honor to his name.

Download or read book A Kingdom to Buy written by Branko Vincic and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2014-07-09 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Boro woke up that late May morning amazed that nothing hurt him. His hips, knees, back, heart, and lungs were perfect. He was able to breathe with full lungs fresh morning air scented with cherries in bloom. He sat in a reclining chair in his backyard with morning coffee and newspapers lying on a small outdoor table, gulped some coffee, leant back in the chair and closed his eyes in short snooze, relieving erotic encounters from his youth. He opened his eyes, got up, warmed his coffee, made himself a grilled cheese sandwich, and opened up newspapers. What more would an old man want: beautiful day, cup of hot coffee, his favourite sandwich and newspapers. And none of these darn pains, aches, check ups, biopsies, tests and pills. A fly landed on his grilled cheese sandwich. He tried to squash the intruder with his newspaper. He missed. His back hurt, triggering a few other pains and aches to revisit him. He was again just a sickly, old man. He leant towards East, and prayed: 'Thank you God for this short, wonderful moment of happiness in my old age. Was this a pre taste of Your Heavenly Kingdom? Please Lord; grant me more of these pain free, bright and happy days.' Will the Lord grant Boro's prayer before he reaches Journey's End Valley?

Pet-sitter Belinda Blake is no stranger to dealing with wild animals, but she’s wary when the owner of the Greenwich, Connecticut, preserve asks her to help out with her “fluffy darlings.” Her caution seems justified on her very first day, when she discovers a tour guide—dead, bloodied, and surrounded by wolves in the enclosure. Was it death by predator or something more sinister? The body count rises, but something’s not adding up. As she gets to know the rescued wolves and wolf-dog hybrids better, Belinda realizes that her human colleagues are not above suspicion. Book Synopsis The Essential Child by : Susan A. Gelman
Download or read book The Essential Child written by Susan A. Gelman and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2003-03-27 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essentialism is the idea that certain categories, such as "dog," "man," or "intelligence," have an underlying reality or true nature that gives objects their identity. Where does this idea come from? In this book, Susan Gelman argues that essentialism is an early cognitive bias. Young children's concepts reflect a deep commitment to essentialism, and this commitment leads children to look beyond the obvious in many converging ways: when learning words, generalizing knowledge to new category members, reasoning about the insides of things, contemplating the role of nature versus nurture, and constructing causal explanations. Gelman argues against the standard view of children as concrete or focused on the obvious, instead claiming that children have an early, powerful tendency to search for hidden, non-obvious features of things. She also attacks claims that children build up their knowledge of the world based on simple, associative learning strategies, arguing that children's concepts are embedded in rich folk theories. Parents don't explicitly teach children to essentialize; instead, during the preschool years, children spontaneously construct concepts and beliefs that reflect an essentialist bias. Essentialist accounts have been offered, in one form or another, for thousands of years, extending back at least to Aristotle and Plato. Yet this book is the first to address the issues surrounding essentialism from a psychological perspective. Gelman synthesizes over 15 years of empirical research on essentialism into a unified framework and explores the broader lessons that the research imparts concerning, among other things, human concepts, children's thinking, and the ways in which language influences thought. This volume will appeal to developmental, cognitive, and social psychologists, as well as to scholars in cognitive science and philosophy.
