This bundle offers books seven, eight, and nine in one convenient file, with over 150,000 words of reading. In LEFT TO LAPSE, when a body turns up on a high-speed train passing through France, Germany and Italy—clearly the work of a serial killer—authorities wonder: whose jurisdiction is it? FBI Special Agent Adele Sharp—triple agent of the U.S., France and Germany—is called in as the only one capable of maneuvering the layers of authority and of tapping her brilliant mind to stop the killer. But as more victims turn up—on other trains, in other countries—the case grows increasingly complex. Can this all be the work of one serial killer? And if so, where will he strike next? In LEFT TO VANISH, when a seemingly unconnected string of murders occurs in vacation homes scattered throughout the French countryside, many involving American, German and Italian expats, FBI Special Agent Adele Sharp—triple agent of the U.S., France and Germany—is called in to cross borders and use her brilliant mind to figure out who is behind it. Are the murders coincidental? Or are they the work of a single, deranged serial killer? And can Adele stop him before he strikes again? In LEFT TO HUNT, when masked victims turn up dead at midnight balls in Venice, FBI Special Agent Adele Sharp—triple agent of the U.S., France and Germany—is summoned to find the killer before he can strike again. As Adele navigates the historic canals of Venice in her hunt for a killer, she wonders if there is an unseen pattern to the murders. Is it a nod to history? Or merely the work of a deranged mind? An action-packed mystery series of international intrigue and riveting suspense, the ADELE SHARP mystery series will have you turning pages late into the night. Books #10-#13 are also available!

Download or read book Honor written by Frank Henderson Stewart and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 1994 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is honor? Is it the same as reputation? Or is it rather a sentiment? Is it a character trait, like integrity? Or is it simply a concept too vague or incoherent to be fully analyzed? In the first sustained comparative analysis of this elusive notion, Frank Stewart writes that none of these ideas is correct. Drawing on information about Western ideas of honor from sources as diverse as medieval Arthurian romances, Spanish dramas of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, and the writings of German jurists of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and comparing the European ideas with the ideas of a non-Western society—the Bedouin—Stewart argues that honor must be understood as a right, basically a right to respect. He shows that by understanding honor this way, we can resolve some of the paradoxes that have long troubled scholars, and can make sense of certain institutions (for instance the medieval European pledge of honor) that have not hitherto been properly understood. Offering a powerful new way to understand this complex notion, Honor has important implications not only for the social sciences but also for the whole history of European sensibility.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Iraqi Triangle of Death, south of Baghdad, was a raging inferno of insurgent activity in August of 2006; by November 2007, attacks had been suppressed to such an extent as to return the area to near obscurity. In the intervening months, the U.S. Army 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry ("Polar Bears") employed a counterinsurgency approach that set the conditions for a landmark peace agreement that has held to the present. With a focus on counterinsurgency, this book is the first to look at the breadth of military operations in Yusifiyah, Iraq, and to analyze the methods the Polar Bears employed. It is a story not of those who fought in the Triangle of Death, but of how they fought.

Download or read book The Sharpshooters written by Edward G. Longacre and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2016-11-01 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recruited as sharpshooters and clothed in distinctive uniformswith green trim, the hand-pickedregiment of the Ninth NewJersey Volunteer Infantry was renowned and admired far and wide. The only New Jersey regiment to reenlist for the duration of the Civil War at the close of its initial three-year term, the Ninth saw action in forty-two battles and engagements across three states. Throughout the South, the regiment broke up enemy camps and supply depots, burned bridges, and destroyed railroad tracks to thwart Confederate movements and suffered disease and starvation as POWs at the notorious Andersonville prison camp in Georgia. Recruited largely from socially conservative cities and villages in northern and central New Jersey, the Ninth Volunteer Infantry consisted of men with widely differing opinions about the Union and their enemy. EdwardG. Longacre unearths these complicated political and social views, tracing the history of this esteemed regiment before, during, and after the war from recruitment at Camp Olden to final operations in North Carolina.
