Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on pneumatic servo systems analysis, control and application in robotic systems. The pneumatic servo systems are composed by pneumatic artificial muscles or cylinders, which are two important pneumatic actuators in industrial application. The active disturbance rejection control technique is used effectively to solve strong nonlinearity and uncertain factors for the pneumatic servo systems. Nonlinear feedback control, back-stepping control, finite-time control, sliding mode control and several other control laws are proposed to make the pneumatic servo systems have better control performances. The book establishes a fundamental framework for this topic, while emphasizing the importance of integrated analysis. The book is intended for undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in this field and engineers working on the applications of pneumatic servo systems. Advances in Industrial Control reports and encourages the transfer of technology in control engineering. The rapid development of control technology has an impact on all areas of the control discipline. The series offers an opportunity for researchers to present an extended exposition of new work in all aspects of industrial control.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Substantial research efforts have been spent over the last two decades on improving the modelling, control, and design of pneumatic systems, which resulted in a potential growth for their market. This increasing acceptance for pneumatic technology is due to their economy and simplicity compared to other technologies of equivalent performance in terms of robustness, simplicity, and cost-effectiveness. However, servo-pneumatic applications are still limited compared to their electric and hydraulic counterparts. One of the restricting factors preventing wider applications of pneumatic systems arises from the highly nonlinear dynamic behaviours associated with such systems. This book, therefore, presents an overview on the modelling techniques, control methodologies, and simulation tools that have been employed for servo-pneumatic systems. It also presents a detailed description of a component-based framework for system decomposition. A mathematical model of servo-pneumatic system components are established and simulated. Simulation was performed using a developed simulation tool based on MATLAB/Simulink. Finally, life cycle of typical pneumatic system is discussed.

Book excerpt: Servo pneumatic systems have properties that can make them favorable for servo applications. The actuators themselves are of simple construction, making them low in cost. They have a high power-to-weight ratio. Compressed air is readily available in most industrial environments. Air is highly compressible, which makes the systems' behavior highly non-linear, and designing a controller for such systems very complicated. The complexity arises in acquiring the system's transfer function accurately, which causes a great difficulty in servo-pneumatic system modeling and control, Moreover, it is highly complicated to adopt a strategy that does not require a lot of time in building a controller. Therefore, this research strives to apply a methodology for identification and control of servo pneumatic using a particle swarm optimization technique as the tuning method in the controller design. Moreover it aims at applying the concept of Hardware in the loop (HIL) as a real time simulation environment which allows the system to be controlled easily without damaging any component of the system or extra cost in building the controller itself by replacing components according to application.

The symposium is a continuation of the first symposium of papers on pneumohydraulic automatics which was published in 1959 by the Academy of Sciences, USSR. The present collection forms part of the lectures and reports presented at the second and third All-Union Conference on pneumohydraulic automatics and embraces a wide range of problems associated with the design and application of pneumohydraulic equipment in the automation of industrial units and other objects. This volume contains 23 chapters organized into four parts. Part I contains papers on the general problems of pneumo- and hydro-automatics. Part II presents studies on pneumatic and hydraulic methods and systems of automatic regulation. Part III is devoted to pneumatic computing devices and methods of computation. The papers in Part IV cover pneumo- and hydro-automatics in the German Democratic Republic and Czechoslovakia.

Book excerpt: Hydraulics and Pneumatics: A Technician's and Engineer's Guide provides an introduction to the components and operation of a hydraulic or pneumatic system. This book discusses the main advantages and disadvantages of pneumatic or hydraulic systems. Organized into eight chapters, this book begins with an overview of industrial prime movers. This text then examines the three different types of positive displacement pump used in hydraulic systems, namely, gear pumps, vane pumps, and piston pumps. Other chapters consider the pressure in a hydraulic system, which can be quickly and easily controlled by devices such as unloading and pressure regulating valves. This book discusses as well the importance of control valves in pneumatic and hydraulic systems to regulate and direct the flow of fluid from compressor or pump to the various load devices. The final chapter deals with the safe-working practices of the systems. This book is a valuable resource for process control engineers.
