Book excerpt: Often treated like the younger sibling in theology, the doctrine of sanctification has spent the last few decades waiting not-so-patiently behind ideas such as election and justification by faith alone. In this volume, twelve theologians explore the meaning and significance of sanctification for contemporary evangelical theology and practice.
Book Synopsis Freedom From The Sin of Adultery And Fornication by : Zacharias Tanee Fomum

This book was released on 2016-06-15 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the fourteen books in this series are complementary and help the reader to have a more complete view of the theme, each book is complete in its own right and should be read for the profit of it. Although the books are rooted in the Word of God, they are written, not merely to help readers to know God’s point of view on the issues discussed, but also to lead the believer beyond theoretical understanding into spiritual experience; for sanctification is ultimately not merely a doctrine but an experience. My prayer for you is that, the One who “chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him” (Ephesians 1:4), should work mightily in you as you read, working in you and through you, so that you may enter into and make progress in the life of sanctification. May the Lord bless you exceedingly!
Book Synopsis Five Views on Sanctification by : Melvin E. Dieter
Download or read book Five Views on Sanctification written by Melvin E. Dieter and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2011-04-19 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christians generally recognize the need to live a holy, or sanctified, life. But they differ on what sanctification is and how it is achieved. How does one achieve sanctification in this life? How much success in sanctification is possible? Is a crisis experience following one's conversion normal--or necessary? If so, what kind of experience, and how is it verified? Five Views on Sanctification--part of the Counterpoints series--brings together in one easy-to-understand volume five major Protestant views on sanctification: Wesleyan View – represented by Melvin E. Dieter Reformed View – represented by Anthony A. Hoekema Pentecostal View – represented by Stanley M. Horton Keswick View – represented by J. Robertson McQuilkin Augustinian-Dispensationalism View – represented by John F. Walvoord Writing from a solid evangelical stance, each author describes and defends his own understanding of the doctrine sanctification and then responds to the views of the other authors. The Counterpoints series presents a comparison and critique of scholarly views on topics important to Christians that are both fair-minded and respectful of the biblical text. Each volume is a one-stop reference that allows readers to evaluate the different positions on a specific issue and form their own, educated opinion.
Book Synopsis How Does Sanctification Work? by : David Powlison
Download or read book How Does Sanctification Work? written by David Powlison and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2017-05-12 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many popular views try to reduce the process of Christian growth to a single template: Remember past grace. Rehearse your identity in Christ. Avail yourself of the means of grace. Discipline yourself. But Scripture portrays the dynamics of sanctification in a rich variety of ways. No single factor, truth, or protocol can capture why and how a person is changed into the image of Christ. Weaving together personal stories, biblical exposition, and theological reflection, David Powlison shows the personal and particular ways that God meets you where you are to produce change. He highlights the variety of factors that work together, helping us to avoid sweeping generalizations and pat answers in the search for a key to sanctification. This book is a go-to resource for understanding the multifaceted, lifelong, personal journey of sanctification.

Download or read book Growing in Holiness written by R. C. Sproul and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2020-01-21 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Christian life is a process of growing in holiness, our natural response to the good news of our redemption in Christ. This kind of growth is gradual, and obstacles are plentiful. Thankfully, we don't have to go it alone. God has given us his Spirit so that we can overcome temptation and become more and more conformed to the image of Christ. But how does the Spirit work? What is the nature of our own personal involvement in the process? And how do we know if we are making progress? Drawn from the lectures of beloved theologian R. C. Sproul, Growing in Holiness explores the doctrine of sanctification, offering insightful commentary on themes such as developing perseverance, overcoming barriers to growth, dealing with feelings of inadequacy, cultivating love for God and others, exhibiting the fruits of the Spirit, and much more. Whether you're a new believer who wants to understand what the Christian life is all about or you've been a Christian for some time but are frustrated by a lack of progress, this book is your guide to pursuing a holy life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Gospel Mystery of Sanctification presents the culmination of Puritan thought on living the Christian life. Combining doctrinal precision and pastoral sensitivity, Walter Marshall shows how sanctification is essential to spiritual life, dependent on spiritual union with Jesus Christ, and inseparable though distinct from justification. He shows how holiness involves both the mind and the soul of the believer and that it is the aim of the Christian life. It is no wonder that this book has been reprinted many times throughout the years and received such high praise from leading ministers of the gospel. "The most important book on sanctification ever written." John Murray (1898 1975), professor of systematic theology, Westminster Theological Seminary

Book Synopsis Four Kinds of Sanctification by : Apostle William H. Bingham
Download or read book Four Kinds of Sanctification written by Apostle William H. Bingham and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2016-05-06 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The writers of the Old Testament uses SANCTIFY in various forms one-hundred and six times. However, the Gospel speaks of sanctification thirty-one separate occasions. The message denotes consecration in both Books. In laymans terms, consecrate is birth out of setting-apart or the condition to prearrange. Therefore, the definition shows classification in matters of position and relationship before God, and unrighteousness. Apostle Bingham is articulating a general interpretation of salvation. A more specific explanation is forthcoming. Holiness, in diverse forms appears over four hundred times in the Old Testament and twelve in the Gospels. Less mention in the New Covenant has no significant, because devoutness and righteousness carries the same idea as SANCTIFY. God in the Body of Jesus Christ is Divine, harmless, undefiled, and separate from iniquity. As a result, His fundamental nature is righteous sanctification. Though, important to understand that each time Holy and Sanctify appear in the Bible they do not suggest saint-ship.

Book Synopsis Practical Sacramental Theology by : Bruce T. Morrill
Download or read book Practical Sacramental Theology written by Bruce T. Morrill and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-09-09 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What motivates practice of the liturgy and sacramental rites of the church? Does the worship of God begin and end within each ritual enactment, or does the truth and value of sacramental celebration reside in the broader context of Christian life in church and society? For more than two decades, prominent Jesuit sacramental-liturgical theologian Bruce Morrill has explored the promise and problems inherent in the Second Vatican Council’s call to renew liturgy’s basic purpose—namely, the glorification of God and the sanctification of people. Morrill’s fundamental argument is that this ancient Christian principle is of a piece, that divine glory and human holiness are, so to speak, two sides of a single coin. The value of liturgy and sacraments is depleted, if not lost, unless they function within a holistic practice of faith that seeks the upbuilding of ethical lives, personal and social. With numerous real-life examples plus references to current sociological studies, the chapters address both modern challenges to and biblical and traditional resources for the celebration of sacramental rites today.
