Book Synopsis Health Impact Assessment by : Martin Birley
Download or read book Health Impact Assessment written by Martin Birley and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-18 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Health Impact Assessment (HIA) is primarily concerned with the future consequences of plans, proposals and policies on the health of communities. It is a rapidly growing complement to Environmental Impact Assessment, increasingly mandated by national and international requirements. Guidelines have been produced by many national and international organizations and it is being introduced in a number of undergraduate or postgraduate university curricula. However, there has been until now no broad-based, introductory text of international scope to the subject, suitable for both these courses and for professional training. The purpose of this book is to fill this gap and to introduce the subject of Health Impact Assessment using plain language, in both general and specific contexts and with reference to both market and less developed economies. As a result, the reader should be able to describe what HIA can and cannot achieve, identify the components of a successful HIA and participate in an assessment as a member of a team. Examples are provided from a number of planning and development sectors, including extractive industry, water resource management, and housing. The reader, whether student or professional, need not be a health specialist, although prior knowledge of some public or environmental health would be an advantage.
Book Synopsis Service Provision and Rural Sustainability by : Greg Halseth
Download or read book Service Provision and Rural Sustainability written by Greg Halseth and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-25 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Access to quality services and community infrastructure are vital parts of supporting sustainable and resilient rural and small town places. Renewing outdated infrastructure and supporting the delivery of services in rural communities present significant challenges from the constrained fiscal and policy realities of the 21st century. Drawing upon contributors from five Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries, this book describes innovative service delivery and community infrastructure models that are appropriate to the contemporary rural and resource-dependent regions of developed economies. The examples show that an entrepreneurial approach to service delivery and infrastructure provision by local organizations and governments is needed. Critical economic and community development supports are crucial to assist creative and innovative sets of solutions that work for small communities. Chapters in this book argue that community development foundations for resilient rural and small town communities and regions must be co-constructed and co-delivered in partnership by both local and senior government actors, in terms of both policy and committed resources. This volume will be extremely valuable for students, scholars, and community development practitioners exploring policy-making, government initiatives, and community service provision in rural and small town places.

Download or read book Community Impact Assessment written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This guide was written as a quick primer for transportation professionals and analysts who assess the impacts of proposed transportation actions on communities. It outlines the community impact assessment process, highlights critical areas that must be examined, identifies basic tools and information sources, and stimulates the thought-process related to individual projects. In the past, the consequences of transportation investments on communities have often been ignored or introduced near the end of a planning process, reducing them to reactive considerations at best. The goals of this primer are to increase awareness of the effects of transportation actions on the human environment and emphasize that community impacts deserve serious attention in project planning and development-attention comparable to that given the natural environment. Finally, this guide is intended to provide some tips for facilitating public involvement in the decision making process.

Book Synopsis Election day by : Great Britain: Ministry of Justice
Download or read book Election day written by Great Britain: Ministry of Justice and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2010-03-22 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper contains a summary of responses to "The governance of Britain: election day: weekend voting" (2008, Cm. 7334, ISBN 9780101733427), along with detailed responses to specific questions raised in the consultation, conclusions and next steps. A majority (53 per cent) of respondents favoured retaining weekday voting, but there was also a majority in favour of piloting weekend voting, should it be adopted, before introducing it across the UK. A survey of non-voters suggested many would be more likely to vote if an election was at the weekend. But evidence provided by local authorities and electoral administrators suggests that a weekend poll, particularly one held over two days, would add considerably to the logistical complexity of running elections, particularly in terms of finding appropriate staff and premises. The Government believes that the potential benefits are outweighed by the overall lack of consensus, and does not propose to move forward with weekend voting at this time. It would, though, re-examine the option should a stronger view in favour emerge in the future.

Book Synopsis User Requirements for Wireless by : Lene Sørensen
Download or read book User Requirements for Wireless written by Lene Sørensen and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-09-01 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In most IT system development processes, the identification or elicitation of user requirements is recognized as a key building block. In practice, the identification of user needs and wants is a challenge and inadequate or faulty identifications in this step of an IT system development can cause huge problems with the final product. The elicitation of user requirements as such changes according to age groups;, to gender,; to cultural settings,; and into time; and experience in the use of the system/software. User requirements, therefore, cannot be used between projects, IT systems, and different software. That makes the elicitation of user requirements an inherent part of any software development project and a resourceful activity as well. This book provides insights to the process of identifying user requirements and to different types by describing varying case studies in which technologies or software has been developed. A variety of user requirements are provided illustrating the effect of changing the targeted user group with respect to age,; to the context and the different technologies or software as well as to the difference in viewpoint on ways of involving users in the elicitation process. Cases and user requirement elements discussed in the book include: • User requirements elicitation processes for children, construction workers, and farmers• User requirements for personalized services of a broadcast company• Variations in user involvement• Practical elements of user involvement and requirements elicitation• Usable security requirements for design of privacy.
