Book Synopsis Air Ambulance by : Gerald L. Dillingham
Download or read book Air Ambulance written by Gerald L. Dillingham and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2011 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a print on demand edition of a hard to find publication. Changes in the air ambulance (AA) industry's size and structure have led to differences of opinion about the implications for AA use, safety, and services. Some industry stakeholders believe that greater state regulation would be good for consumers. While states can regulate the medical aspects of AA, the Airline Deregulation Act preempts states from economic regulation of AA. Other stakeholders view the industry changes as having been beneficial to consumers and see no need for a regulatory change. This report examined: (1) changes in the industry in the last decade and the implications of these changes on the availability of AA and patient services; and (2) the relationship between fed. and state oversight and regulation of the industry.

Book excerpt: &‘ In 2012, following his investigation of the deaths of two babies in childbirth at Waikato Hospital, Hamilton coroner Gordon Matenga asked, &‘ Does New Zealand have the safe, world-leading system the Government says we do, or are we losing babies because the balance has swung too far towards the idea that because childbirth is natural, then the philosophy of “ non-intervention” is best?' &‘ Babies' deaths reignite maternity row' , the New Zealand Herald announced.' — from the introduction by Linda BryderIs New Zealand &‘ the best country to give birth' ? Historian of medicine Linda Bryder explores how New Zealand developed a unique approach to the role of midwives in childbirth in the 1990s, and analyses the consequences of that change for mothers and babies. The Best Country to Give Birth? traces the genesis of the 1990 Nurses Amendment Act, which allowed midwives to practise alone in the community, back to the homebirth movement of the 1970s, and explores the aftermath of the Act including the withdrawal of GPs from maternity care. In investigating the consequences of the reforms, it uncovers repeated criticism of services &– and what were deemed preventable deaths &– from coroners, commissioners for health and disability, other health professionals including some midwives, academic researchers, and parents and families. How and why does maternity care in Aotearoa differ from other countries? How has it shaped the equitable care of our mothers and babies? Why have critical reports had so little impact? This is a major historical account of an issue at the heart of our maternity care.

Download or read book The Other Country written by Mrinal Pande and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Other Country brings together a wide-ranging selection of essays by Mrinal Pande; one of India’s most respected journalists. Through chronicle; anecdote and hard-hitting reportage; Mrinal traces the many; ever-widening fault lines between Bharat and shining India; the small town and the metropolis. Mrinal describes the Great Language Divide between Hindi and English; traces its origin; the role globalization has had in its spread; and the effect of this divide on contemporary literature and media. She vividly describes the anti-outsider movement in Mumbai and analyses the role that inequitable development; and the lack of opportunities in villages and small towns; has played in it. Mrinal tells the story of Prabha Devi of Tehri; Uttarakhand; who picked up scissors and comb to become village barber in the face of opposition and thus came to represent the enormous change in attitudes and stances that are now sweeping Indian society everywhere. And through a hilarious profile of the Mineral Water Baba of Faridabad; who can heal any ailment with a sealed bottle of mineral water; she analyses one of the big issues facing India’s villages and metropolises: its water-management systems.
