Book excerpt: Fans of Maren Moore, Lisa Suzanne, and Chelle Sloan will enjoy this steamy, opposites-attract romantic comedy by USA Today bestselling contemporary romance author, Tracy Solheim. Just when he was at the top of his game… Baltimore Blaze tight-end Brody Janik is a natural-born football star. At twenty-seven, his record-breaking athletic performance and his cover-boy good looks have turned him into a household name. But Brody’s hiding a major secret behind his charming, jock persona: a health condition that may cut his career short. PhD candidate Shannon ‘Shay’ Everett works multiple jobs to put herself through school—including an unpaid internship with the Blaze training department. Strapped for cash, Shay answers the call of a NFL gossip blogger to uncover personal details about the Blaze players. Sneaking into the locker room one night, she gets entangled in Brody’s secret… and swept up by his charm. Brody isn’t sure what to make of the gawky girl with the whiskey eyes, especially when he discovers she was snooping. His first instinct is to turn her in as a snitch, but she could destroy him by sharing his secret. Instead, he decides to keep her close… perhaps closer than either of them originally intended. A fun and flirty fake relationship sports romance with a satisfying HEA that can be read as a standalone.

Book excerpt: “Lovingly crafted, deep, richly engaging, and wise.” —Jack Kornfield “An important resource...for many years to come.” —Sharon Salzberg “...brilliant and utterly engaging.” —Tara Brach This “glorious book” explores the essence of connection through 5 essential types of relationships, “[guiding] us into the infinite mysteries of human attunement” (Bessel van der Kolk, New York Times–bestselling author of The Body Keeps the Score). Do you long to connect more deeply with other human beings? Do you wonder if you’re living up to your human potential to make these deep connections happen—and perhaps missing out on this most compelling aspect of a vital life? In this groundbreaking book, bestselling author Stephen Cope invites us to explore the most important questions in this domain: What is the nature of human connection? Why, precisely, is a capacity to connect deeply so important to the development of our minds, bodies, and spirits? What are the actual mechanisms of connection that we must master during the course of life? How can our lack of connection inhibit our happiness and satisfaction in life? Can we learn to connect more wisely than we do? Cope is well known as a master storyteller, and he seamlessly blends science, scholarship, and storytelling, drawing on poignant stories from his own life as well as the lives of famous figures—from E. M. Forster to Sigmund Freud to Queen Victoria—whose formative relationships shed light on the nature of connection itself. In the process, he lays out in stunning detail the precise mechanisms of human connection, which he distills into five helpful categories: containment, twinship, adversity, mirroring, and conscious partnership. Then he invites us into a remarkably practical reflection on how these forms of connection appear in our own lives, helping us work toward a fuller understanding of deep human connection—and a more satisfying and fruitful life. Deep Human Connection was originally published as Soul Friends.

He leads a knowledge-hungry student audience at Lasell College where he helps to build practical skills and professional acumen. 'The Playbook of Persuasive Reasoning' is formulated from his lectures and instruction notes from these courses. Dr. Hurley has taught persuasive writing and argumentation for eight years at several higher education institutions, including both public universities and private colleges. His focus has been on first-year communication courses, intermediate communication courses, and advanced communication courses. A specialist in the field of persuasive writing and reasoning, Gavin F. Hurley earned his PhD in Writing and Rhetoric from the University of Rhode Island. In addition to his PhD, he has a B.A. in Philosophy from Saint Joseph’s University (Philadelphia, PA) and an M.A. in Writing Arts from Rowan University (Glassboro, NJ). He has also published numerous articles on rhetoric, persuasion, and argumentation in scholarly collections as well as in peer-reviewed journals.
