Book excerpt: According to market forecasts, e-commerce will attain growing importance in the near future: Business transactions are changing. However, until today, the subject lacks profound findings about possible challenges and advantages, as well as about success factors of acceptance. The present book informs about the trends in business-to-consumer e-commerce both from the retailer's and the customer's point of view. Additionally, it contains a case study of a well known U.S. retailer and a corresponding customer survey. Based on the results of this study, customer profiles, market segments and strategies are derived. The study shows that e-commerce is far more than a mere selling and distributing channel. It is a platform for an integrated marketing that takes customers' needs into consideration while at the same time enforces customer focus. While it may be too early to predict its ultimate impacts, e-commerce is certainly a major source of business opportunity today. The greatest threat may be the risk of not acting on this occasion.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The continued advancement of globalization, increases in internet connectivity, compatibility of international payment systems, and adaptability of logistics and shipping processes have combined to contribute to the rapid growth of the cross-border e-commerce market. Due to these advancements and the ubiquitous presence of smartphones, consumer use of cross-border e-commerce is increasingly simplified, and thus, sellers are hardly restricted to a specific country in terms of promoting, selling, and shipping goods worldwide. The burgeoning opportunities, habits, and trends of shopping on cross-border e-commerce platforms have expedited the prospect of becoming a presence in the global market. This is true for enterprises of all sizes, especially for small? and medium?sized enterprises (SMEs) that want to add their footprint in the international market for the first time. Like any other industry, cross-border e-commerce has its specific economics and driving forces, but has different scopes, challenges, and trends due to the geographic and cultural expanse of relevant environments. Cross-Border E-Commerce Marketing and Management was conceptualized by identifying the scope of new complementary information with a comprehensive understanding of the issues and potential of cross-border e-commerce businesses. The authors believe that this book will not only fill the void in the current research but will also provide far-sighted vision and strategies, as it covers big data, artificial intelligence, IoT, supply chain management, and more. This book provides the necessary knowledge to managers to compete with the competitive market structure and ultimately contribute to the sustainable economic growth of a country. It works as a guideline for existing cross-border e-commerce managers to formulate individual strategies that combine to optimize the industry while keeping the enterprise competitive. This book is useful in both developed and developing country contexts. This publication is an ideal resource for academicians, policy makers, stakeholders, and cross-border e-commerce managers, especially from SMEs.

At the same time, many international brands are intimidated by the China market given their lack of familiarity and the significant cultural and language differences. The Smart Business Guide helps bridge this gap by providing a how-to approach to the China e-commerce ecosystem. E-commerce provides a powerful tool for brands to reach consumers and offers the predictability and statistical feedback that dramatically reduces the costs of a brand to enter the China market. A quick, punchy read, The Smart Business Guide is a useful book for consumer brands, retailers, and entrepreneurs. It covers critical areas such as: -- How any brand can be a pure-play e-commerce brand in China -- How Chinese consumers are different from U.S. consumers -- The main platforms and social media channels -- Case studies of success and failure in China -- How to deal with market entry challenges, trademark registration, and product approval -- How to compete and win in the most challenging--and most promising--retail market in the world

This book was released on 2021-07-26 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2018 in the subject Business economics - Trade and Distribution, grade: 1,00, Cologne University of Applied Sciences (Informatik), course: Web Science / E-Commerce, language: English, abstract: The internet has revolutionised the way people shop and electronic commerce has reshaped the retail landscape dramatically. It suddenly allowed small companies to reach out to millions of potential customers and lowered market entry barriers significantly in areas where once only big retail companies competed against each other. But the times when small companies could create online shops and compete with the big players are almost over yet again, and Amazon catalyses this change by seizing a growing share of the whole online retail market. Every second dollar spent online in the US is already spent on the Amazon.com marketplace and the trend in the German market is going in the same direction. The fact that a significant number of overall online sales are generated on the Amazon marketplace impacts other e-tailers. They must react to market concentration and consider whether or not they want to sell their products on Amazon. There are many opportunities and risks that can result from cooperation with Amazon but there is a lack of papers and books that consider both aspects at the same time, quantifying them, weighing each up against the other, and deriving conclusions from it. The aim of this thesis is to close the aforementioned gap in available literature by presenting the current market situation in the e-commerce and analysing the signs of a further market concentration, in order to provide evidence of the problematic situation small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) are in. The thesis then examines the option of cooperating with Amazon as a possible solution to react on this trend and therefore researches the possible chances and risks that could arise through such cooperation. Those insights are thereafter incorporated into a strategic recommendation for e-tailers who consider selling on Amazon. Furthermore, a selling guide which was evaluated in practice, depicts how a company could sell products successfully on the marketplace. In the end, this thesis should contribute to e-tailers’ knowledge about the current and future market situation in e-commerce. In addition, the insights presented should support e-tailers’ decision making process when they are confronted with the question of cooperating with the e-commerce giant or not.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are the Internet and e-commerce truly revolutionizing business practice? This book explodes the transformation myth by demonstrating that the Internet and e-commerce are in fact being adapted by firms to reinforce their existing relationships with customers, suppliers, and business partners. Detailed case studies of eight countries show that, rather than creating a borderless global economy, e-commerce strongly reflects existing local patterns of commerce, business, and consumer preference, and its impact therefore varies greatly by country. Paradoxically, while e-commerce is increasing the efficiency, effectiveness, and competitiveness of firms, it is also increasing the complexity of their environments as they have to deal with more business partners and also face greater competition from other firms. This incisive analysis of the diffusion and impact of e-business provides academic researchers, graduates, and MBA students with a solid basis for understanding its likely evolution.
