Book Synopsis The Environmental Legacy of the UC Natural Reserve System by : Peggy L. Fiedler
Download or read book The Environmental Legacy of the UC Natural Reserve System written by Peggy L. Fiedler and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2013-02-04 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The UC Natural Reserve System, established in 1965 to support field research, teaching, and public service in natural environments, has become a prototype of conservation and land stewardship looked to by natural resource managers throughout the world. From its modest beginnings of seven sites, the UC NRS has grown to encompass more than 750,000 wildland acres. This book tells the story of how a few forward-thinking UC faculty, who’d had their research plots and teaching spots destroyed by development and habitat degradation, devised a way to save representative examples of many of California’s major ecosystems. Working together with conservation-minded donors and landowners, with state and federal agencies, and with land trusts and private conservation organizations, they founded what would become the world’s largest university-administered natural reserve system—a legacy of lasting significance and utility. This lavishly illustrated volume, which includes images by famed photographers Ansel Adams and Galen Rowell, describes the natural and human histories of the system’s many reserves. Located throughout California, these wildland habitats range from coastal tide pools to inland deserts, from lush wetlands to ancient forests, and from vernal pools to oak savannas. By supporting teaching, research, and public service within such protected landscapes, the UC NRS contributes to the understanding and wise stewardship of the Earth.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Where is Lee Harvey Oswald’s body? The Kennedy assassination is a rat’s nest of conspiracy theories: mafia involvement, the second gunman, government cover-up... but the most important chapter of this sordid tale may just be the theory that the body buried at Oswald’s Rose Hill gravesite is not actually Lee Harvey himself. Meet the ragtag group of “useful idiots” who are unwittingly brought together to clean up the crime of the century – a wannabe cowboy from Wisconsin, a Buddy Holly-idolizing (former) car thief, a world-weary Civil Rights activist ready for revolution, and a failed G-Man who still acts the part – and specifically, regarding the matter of Oswald’s body.

Book Synopsis Depreciation, Provisions and Reserves - English by : Navneet Singh
Download or read book Depreciation, Provisions and Reserves - English written by Navneet Singh and published by Navneet Singh. This book was released on with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Depreciation is the process of allocating the cost of a tangible asset over its useful life. It represents the reduction in the value of an asset due to wear and tear, obsolescence, or the passage of time. Depreciation is an essential concept in accounting because it helps match the cost of using an asset with the revenue it generates over its useful life. Here are the key points about depreciation: Purpose: Depreciation is recorded to reflect the decrease in the value of tangible assets over time. It allows businesses to allocate the cost of an asset over its useful life rather than expensing the entire cost in the year of purchase. Methods: There are several methods of depreciation, including straight-line depreciation, declining balance depreciation, and units of production depreciation. Each method allocates the cost of the asset differently over its useful life. Recording: Depreciation expense is recorded on the income statement as an operating expense. It reduces the net income and reflects the consumption of the asset's value over time. Simultaneously, accumulated depreciation is recorded on the balance sheet as a contra-asset account. It represents the total depreciation expense recognized for the asset since its acquisition. Useful Life and Salvage Value: Depreciation calculations consider the estimated useful life of the asset and its salvage value (the estimated value of the asset at the end of its useful life). The difference between the asset's cost and its salvage value is spread over its useful life to determine the annual depreciation expense. Impacts: Depreciation affects both the income statement and the balance sheet. It reduces the net income and, consequently, the taxes payable. Additionally, it reduces the carrying value of the asset on the balance sheet, reflecting its decreased value over time. Overall, depreciation is a critical accounting concept used to accurately reflect the consumption of an asset's value over its useful life and to ensure the financial statements provide a true and fair view of a company's financial position and performance.
