Myth and fact have meshed together to create a legend of monumental proportions. Anxious to bask in the reflected glory of the James clan, many people have claimed a family connection to these two famous outlaws. Now noted Western historian and folklorist Phillip W. Steele has penned an authoritative chronicle of the James family, drawing on sources newly discovered in the past two decades. Anecdotes, family stories, and complete genealogies of all members accurately document the James clan's history in this entertaining, readable volume, which includes more than forty rare photographs. Individuals who believe they may share a blood tie with the James brothers will find this book invaluable in authenticating their claim; those who are merely captivated by the romance and mystery of two of America's most wanted men will discover much to add to their understanding of these celebrated figures.Journey through the old West with Jesse and Frank James and trace the history and heritage of these American folk heroes. The late Philip Steele was the author of several books on the Ozarks and the Wild West including Ozark Tales and Superstitions, Civil War in the Ozarks, and The Last Cherokee Warriors, all published by Pelican. Book excerpt: After some 15 generations in Northumberland and Huntington Counties, one branch of the Parkinson family immigrated in 1848/1849 from England to Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. James Parkinson (1808-1870) and his family were the immigrants, and they settled in Brookfield, New South Wales. "The oldest of these children continued to live with his parents in Australia, leaving his legacy and progeny there. The next two continued the journey eastward across the Pacific Ocean to America, making yet another remarkable trip from the west coast inland to southern Utah. The fourth child returned to England to establish her family in her homeland. Thus, in just one generation, the family became widely scattered throughout the world." (p. xix) The two who immigrated to Utah were Mormons converts, and this book contains much of the family history and genealogy of the Parkinson family in the United States and in Australia (particularly the Parkinson and Gilson families in Australia). The book does not contain the descendants of the fourth child who returned to England, since the name of her spouse has not been discovered. The book does include family history and some genealogical data about the Parkinson ancestry to 1272 A.D.

This book was released on 2021-02-13 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “For myself, however, it is the human element, the recollected words, the remembered faces, which give life to the printed record.” James Hayes’s many writings have made a major contribution to knowledge about life in rural Hong Kong. This book presents sixteen of his illuminating and original articles, each of which is rooted in his experiences as a district officer, administering and visiting villages under his care. His interest in the life and lives of the people went far beyond the formal demands of his official work, and Dr Hayes grew to admire and respect the villagers. As a result, his writings are suffused with his affection and esteem. Intended for scholars in the field of New Territories history as well as general readers interested in rural life in the region, A Pattern of Life provides a fascinating, academically important, yet highly readable picture of traditional life in rural South China and reinforces Dr Hayes’s reputation as one of the most important writers on the New Territories. “[James was] the archetypical example of those remarkable Colonial Service officers who became fascinated by, and deeply engaged with, the territories and people which it was their task to administer.” – Lord Wilson of Tillyorn Governor of Hong Kong (1987–1992)
