Book excerpt: Organometallic Syntheses, Volume 3 focuses on the synthesis of compounds containing carbon-metal bonds, including ligands, compounds, chlorides, and derivatives. The selection first elaborates on bis(cyclopentadienyl) organolanthanide and organoyttrium chloride, methyl, and hydride complexes and base stabilized alkali metal halide adducts of bis (pentamethylcyclopentadienyl) lanthanide chlorides. The text then examines cyclopentadienyl metal carbonyl and nitrosyl derivatives, ferrocenylamine, cobalticinium and rhodicinium salts, and alkyl transition metal derivatives. The publication takes a look at transition metal complexes containing organophosphorus ligands, transition metal derivatives containing chalcogen ligands, and coinage metal derivatives. The text also reviews transition metal organometallic compounds, including compounds of group IA, IIA, IIB, and IVA. The selection is a vital reference for researchers interested in the synthesis of compounds containing carbon-metal bonds.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organometallic Mechanisms and Catalysis: The Role of Reactive Intermediates in Organic Processes covers the mechanistic delineation of organometallic chemistry and catalysis. This book is organized into three parts encompassing 18 chapters. The first part describes first the oxidation-reduction process of organometals, followed by discussions on the catalytic reactions of peroxides, metal-catalyzed addition to olefins, and reduction of organic halides. This part also explores other reactions involving transition metal carbonyls and metal-catalyzed reactions of aromatic diazonium salts. The second part deals with some chemical aspects of organometals, such as their stability, thermochemistry, decomposition, hemolytic pathways, and the formation of carbon-carbon bonds. The third part examines the charge transfer processes and interactions of organometals with electron acceptors. This part further looks into the cleavage and insertion reactions of organometals with electrophiles, as well as the electrophilic and electron transfer mechanisms of organometals. Organic and inorganic chemists, teachers, and students will greatly benefit from this book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reviews some important reactions of carbon monoxide in organic chemistry: hydroformylation, metal carbonyl- and acid catalyzed carbonylation and ring closure reactions with carbon monoxide. It is not merely a translation of the German edition which appeared in 1967 but the text has been completely revised. This was necessary because this chemistry is rapidly developing in research as well as in technical application, which is underlined by the increase of production of e. g. oxo chemicals from about 1.4 million tons in 1967 to 2.7 million tons in 1969, nearly a doubling within 2 years. Quite a number of new research results were published during the last two years, and these additional references have been cited in the English edition. Most of the new papers cited deal with hydroformylation reactions: however, a number of the papers reviewed also report important new aspects in carboxylation and ring closure reactions. The author is indebted to a number of colleagues who helped to collect these new data and have given him valuable hints and would like to thank Miss 1. Forster, Dr. B. Cornils, Dr. D. Hahn, Dr. P. Schneller, Dr. H. Tummes, and Dr. J. Weber for their cooperation, and to Prof. Dr. F. Piacenti (University of Pisa, Italy) for discussions on reaction mecha nisms. The author is especially grateful to Dr. Charles R. Adams of the Shell Development Company, Emeryville, California, for his cooperation in translating the German text.
