Book Synopsis The Rainbow’S Light by : Derek Earls
Download or read book The Rainbow’S Light written by Derek Earls and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2016-10-12 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Droplets of evil had diluted and eventually dispersed the white power of the suns special light. The special light had a purpose. It was created for such a time as this. The purpose carried a good intent, but some devilry had diluted and dispersed the good intent. It was remembered by those occasions when rainbows arched the sky. The rainbows appeared less to men and others forgot. But most men had forgotten the purpose of the rainbows reminder, and most men and others had never known the purpose of the special light. It was always known by a few that such a time as this would come. The few, intent on good, feared the coming of such a time. Now the greater number, who were evil, were aware that the time, or a time, had come. They were, at first, unaware that the special light might reconvene as a whole and that the white power of the whole might thwart their intent. These others were not men, not human. Though they had mans outward appearance, most were subhuman; some were superhuman. Evil intent rested with the superhuman; but, to them, the intent was not evil, just inevitable. Only those carried upon the waves of the special light had the energy to combat the evil intent, and then it was only when they came together.

Book Synopsis The Rainbow Bridge by : Raymond L. Lee
Download or read book The Rainbow Bridge written by Raymond L. Lee and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 654 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Venerated as god and goddess, feared as demon and pestilence, trusted as battle omen, and used as a proving ground for optical theories, the rainbow's image is woven into the fabric of our past and present. From antiquity to the nineteenth century, the rainbow has played a vital role in both inspiring and testing new ideas about the physical world. Although scientists today understand the rainbow's underlying optics fairly well, its subtle variability in nature has yet to be fully explained. Throughout history the rainbow has been seen primarily as a symbol&—of peace, covenant, or divine sanction&—rather than as a natural phenomenon. Lee and Fraser discuss the role the rainbow has played in societies throughout the ages, contrasting its guises as a sign of optimism, bearer of Greek gods' messages of war and retribution, and a symbol of the Judeo-Christian bridge to the divine. The authors traverse the bridges between the rainbow's various roles as they explore its scientific, artistic, and folkloric visions. This unique book, exploring the rainbow from the perspectives of atmospheric optics, art history, color theory, and mythology, will inspire readers to gaze at the rainbow anew. Download or read book The Rainbow Zhanlue written by Jack D. Waggoner and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-12-06 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A state visit to China during the first year in office is unprecedented for a U.S. president, but Barack Obama has made it. Moreover, the fact that President Obama spent four days and three nights of his seven-day visit to four Asian nations in Beijing and Shanghai has demonstrated the importance his administration attaches to China and to Sino-U.S. relations in its global strategy. Six other U.S. presidents (Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush Sr., Clinton, and Bush Jr.) visited China during their terms in office, but none went within the first year, and none went having accepted more than ten million dollars in campaign funds from their host. The meeting between the American President, President Hu, and Jet How Chung precipitated the violent reaction of the commander-in-chief that took place on Air Force One as it sat on the tarmac in Beijing, November 2009. This is a work of fiction, however, the facts and figures quoted are historically accurate. Most statistical data came from the Congressional Record or from accredited news sources. Some of the figures who appear, however, do so under their own names.

Book Synopsis Harnessing the Technicolor Rainbow by : Scott Higgins
Download or read book Harnessing the Technicolor Rainbow written by Scott Higgins and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2009-02-17 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like Dorothy waking up over the rainbow in the Land of Oz, Hollywood discovered a vivid new world of color in the 1930s. The introduction of three-color Technicolor technology in 1932 gave filmmakers a powerful tool with which to guide viewers' attention, punctuate turning points, and express emotional subtext. Although many producers and filmmakers initially resisted the use of color, Technicolor designers, led by the legendary Natalie Kalmus, developed an aesthetic that complemented the classical Hollywood filmmaking style while still offering innovative novelty. By the end of the 1930s, color in film was thoroughly harnessed to narrative, and it became elegantly expressive without threatening the coherence of the film's imaginary world. Harnessing the Technicolor Rainbow is the first scholarly history of Technicolor aesthetics and technology, as well as a thoroughgoing analysis of how color works in film. Scott Higgins draws on extensive primary research and close analysis of well-known movies, including Becky Sharp, A Star Is Born, Adventures of Robin Hood, and Gone with the Wind, to show how the Technicolor films of the 1930s forged enduring conventions for handling color in popular cinema. He argues that filmmakers and designers rapidly worked through a series of stylistic modes based on the demonstration, restraint, and integration of color—and shows how the color conventions developed in the 1930s have continued to influence filmmaking to the present day. Higgins also formulates a new vocabulary and a method of analysis for capturing the often-elusive functions and effects of color that, in turn, open new avenues for the study of film form and lay a foundation for new work on color in cinema.
