Book Synopsis Nomenclature of Inorganic Chemistry by : International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry. Commission on the Nomenclature of Inorganic Chemistry
Download or read book Nomenclature of Inorganic Chemistry written by International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry. Commission on the Nomenclature of Inorganic Chemistry and published by Institut d'Estudis Catalans. This book was released on 1990 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemical nomenclature has attracted attention since the beginning of chemistry, because the need to exchange knowledge was recognised from the early days. The responsibility for providing nomenclature to the chemical community has been assigned to the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, whose Rules for Inorganic Nomenclature have been published and revised in 1958 and 1970. Since then many new compounds have appeared, particularly with regard to coordination chemistry and boron chemistry, which were difficult to name from the 1970 Rules. Consequently the IUPAC Commission of Nomenclature on Inorganic Chemistry decided to thoroughly revise the last edition of the `Red Book.' Because many of the new fields of chemistry are very highly specialised and need complex types of name, the revised edition will appear in two parts. Part 1 will be mainly concerned with general inorganic chemistry, Part 2 with more specialised areas such as strand inorganic polymers and polyoxoanions. This new edition represents Part 1 - in it can be found rules to name compounds ranging from the simplest molecules to oxoacids and their derivatives, coordination compounds, and simple boron compounds.

Book Synopsis Dictionary of the Printing and Allied Industries by : F.J.M. Wijnekus
Download or read book Dictionary of the Printing and Allied Industries written by F.J.M. Wijnekus and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 1063 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first edition of this dictionary, compiled by F.J.M. Wijnekus and published in 1967, was the result of years of systematic collection and preparation of thousands of terms and expressions which were until then not to be found in any other dictionary. The material was correlated for use in his daily work and, as the reputation of his private collection spread, there was an increasing demand for access to these findings. Until 1967 there was no comprehensive multilingual dictionary on the subject; former publications were incomplete and out of date and lacked clear definition - often leading to disastrous misunderstandings. Furthermore, the subject of printing, paper and ink technology had never been dealt with, in dictionary form, in relation to other aspects of the graphic industry. This new work, prepared by F.J.M. Wijnekus and his son, has been considerably up-dated. Much time has been devoted to checking the material against the most reliable and authoritative sources. The usefulness of the work has been further enhanced by the addition of Spanish and Italian to the original languages of English, French and German. The first edition was received with much enthusiastic praise and this new dictionary will undoubtedly continue to be an invaluable tool for all those working with the printed word in the widest sense. It is a reference work which should be in the hands of all those in any way connected with the printing industry, paper manufacturers, ink manufacturers, printers, bookbinders, publishers, lithographers, lay-out men and graphical research institutes.
Book Synopsis The Politics of Chemistry by : Agustí Nieto-Galan
Download or read book The Politics of Chemistry written by Agustí Nieto-Galan and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2019-08-22 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agust Nieto-Galan argues that chemistry in the twentieth century was deeply and profoundly political. Far from existing in a distinct public sphere, chemical knowledge was applied in ways that created strong links with industrial and military projects, and national rivalries and international endeavours, that materially shaped the living conditions of millions of citizens. It is within this framework that Nieto-Galan analyses how Spanish chemists became powerful ideological agents in different political contexts, from liberal to dictatorial regimes, throughout the century. He unveils chemists' position of power in Spain, their place in international scientific networks, and their engagement in fierce ideological battles in an age of extremes. Shared discourses between chemistry and liberalism, war, totalitarianism, religion, and diplomacy, he argues, led to advancements in both fields.
Book Synopsis Teaching Chemistry Around the World by : Björn Risch
Download or read book Teaching Chemistry Around the World written by Björn Risch and published by Waxmann Verlag. This book was released on 2010 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As teachers we often tend to expect other countries to teach chemistry in much the same way as we do, but educational systems differ widely. At Bielefeld University we started a project to analyse the approach to chemical education in different countries from all over the world: Teaching Chemistry around the World. 25 countries have participated in the project. The resulting country studies are presented in this book. This book may be seen as a contribution to make the structure of chemistry teaching in numerous countries more transparent and to facilitate communication between these countries. Especially in the case of the school subject chemistry, which is very unpopular on the one hand and occupies an exceptional position on the other hand – due to its relevance to jobs and everyday life and most notably due to its importance for innovation capacity and problem solving – we have to learn from each others’ educational systems.

Book Synopsis Frontiers of Green Catalytic Selective Oxidations by : Konstantin P. Bryliakov
Download or read book Frontiers of Green Catalytic Selective Oxidations written by Konstantin P. Bryliakov and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-10-02 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The demand for novel efficient and environmentally sustainable chemo, regio- and stereoselective catalyst systems for the oxidation of organic substrates is continuously growing in line with toughening economic and environmental constraints. This book addresses these issues; it consists of eleven chapters written by world-recognized experts in green and sustainable oxidation catalysis. The most urgent and challenging topics, in the judgment of the editor, such as green asymmetric epoxidations, sulfoxidatiuons, C–H oxidations; oxidation catalysis by polyoxometalates and oxidations in non-conventional solvents, etc. have been critically reviewed in this book. Both fundamental aspects, such as catalysts design, catalytic properties, nature of catalytically active sites and reaction mechanisms, and practical outlook of the oxidations have been addressed by the authors. The book appeals to a broad readership, particularly graduate students, employees of universities and research organizations, and industrial researchers, particularly those working in the areas of homogeneous oxidation catalysis, asymmetric synthesis, organocatalysis, sustainable catalytic processes and green chemistry, mechanisms of catalytic reactions, synthesis of bioactive compounds, biomimetic chemistry, etc. Konstantin Bryliakov is Leading Researcher at the Boreskov Institute of Catalysis. In 2016, he was elected Honorary Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
