Book Synopsis Projective Differential Geometry of Submanifolds by : M.A. Akivis
Download or read book Projective Differential Geometry of Submanifolds written by M.A. Akivis and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1993-06-30 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, the general theory of submanifolds in a multidimensional projective space is constructed. The topics dealt with include osculating spaces and fundamental forms of different orders, asymptotic and conjugate lines, submanifolds on the Grassmannians, different aspects of the normalization problems for submanifolds (with special emphasis given to a connection in the normal bundle) and the problem of algebraizability for different kinds of submanifolds, the geometry of hypersurfaces and hyperbands, etc. A series of special types of submanifolds with special projective structures are studied: submanifolds carrying a net of conjugate lines (in particular, conjugate systems), tangentially degenerate submanifolds, submanifolds with asymptotic and conjugate distributions etc. The method of moving frames and the apparatus of exterior differential forms are systematically used in the book and the results presented can be applied to the problems dealing with the linear subspaces or their generalizations. Graduate students majoring in differential geometry will find this monograph of great interest, as will researchers in differential and algebraic geometry, complex analysis and theory of several complex variables.

Book Synopsis Projective Differential Geometry Old and New by : V. Ovsienko
Download or read book Projective Differential Geometry Old and New written by V. Ovsienko and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2004-12-13 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ideas of projective geometry keep reappearing in seemingly unrelated fields of mathematics. The authors' main goal in this 2005 book is to emphasize connections between classical projective differential geometry and contemporary mathematics and mathematical physics. They also give results and proofs of classic theorems. Exercises play a prominent role: historical and cultural comments set the basic notions in a broader context. The book opens by discussing the Schwarzian derivative and its connection to the Virasoro algebra. One-dimensional projective differential geometry features strongly. Related topics include differential operators, the cohomology of the group of diffeomorphisms of the circle, and the classical four-vertex theorem. The classical theory of projective hypersurfaces is surveyed and related to some very recent results and conjectures. A final chapter considers various versions of multi-dimensional Schwarzian derivative. In sum, here is a rapid route for graduate students and researchers to the frontiers of current research in this evergreen subject.

This book was released on 2009-10-09 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Althoughsubmanifoldscomplexmanifoldshasbeenanactive?eldofstudyfor many years, in some sense this area is not su?ciently covered in the current literature. This text deals with the CR submanifolds of complex manifolds, with particular emphasis on CR submanifolds of complex projective space, and it covers the topics which are necessary for learning the basic properties of these manifolds. We are aware that it is impossible to give a complete overview of these submanifolds, but we hope that these notes can serve as an introduction to their study. We present the fundamental de?nitions and results necessary for reaching the frontiers of research in this ?eld. There are many monographs dealing with some current interesting topics in di?erential geometry, but most of these are written as encyclopedias, or research monographs, gathering recent results and giving the readers ample usefulinformationaboutthetopics. Therefore, thesekindsofmonographsare attractive to specialists in di?erential geometry and related ?elds and acce- able to professional di?erential geometers. However, for graduate students who are less advanced in di?erential geometry, these texts might be hard to read without assistance from their instructors. By contrast, the general philosophy of this book is to begin with the elementary facts about complex manifolds and their submanifolds, give some details and proofs, and introduce the reader to the study of CR submanifolds of complex manifolds; especially complex projective space. It includes only a few original results with precise proofs, while the others are cited in the reference list.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1997, this book contains six in-depth articles on various aspects of the field of tight and taut submanifolds and concludes with an extensive bibliography of the entire field. The book is dedicated to the memory of Nicolaas H. Kuiper; the first paper is an unfinished but insightful survey of the field of tight immersions and maps written by Kuiper himself. Other papers by leading researchers in the field treat topics such as the smooth and polyhedral portions of the theory of tight immersions, taut, Dupin and isoparametric submanifolds of Euclidean space, taut submanifolds of arbitrary complete Riemannian manifolds, and real hypersurfaces in complex space forms with special curvature properties. Taken together these articles provide a comprehensive survey of the field and point toward several directions for future research.
Book Synopsis Differential Geometry Of Warped Product Manifolds And Submanifolds by : Bang-yen Chen
Download or read book Differential Geometry Of Warped Product Manifolds And Submanifolds written by Bang-yen Chen and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2017-05-29 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A warped product manifold is a Riemannian or pseudo-Riemannian manifold whose metric tensor can be decomposed into a Cartesian product of the y geometry and the x geometry — except that the x-part is warped, that is, it is rescaled by a scalar function of the other coordinates y. The notion of warped product manifolds plays very important roles not only in geometry but also in mathematical physics, especially in general relativity. In fact, many basic solutions of the Einstein field equations, including the Schwarzschild solution and the Robertson-Walker models, are warped product manifolds. The first part of this volume provides a self-contained and accessible introduction to the important subject of pseudo-Riemannian manifolds and submanifolds. The second part presents a detailed and up-to-date account on important results of warped product manifolds, including several important spacetimes such as Robertson-Walker's and Schwarzschild's.The famous John Nash's embedding theorem published in 1956 implies that every warped product manifold can be realized as a warped product submanifold in a suitable Euclidean space. The study of warped product submanifolds in various important ambient spaces from an extrinsic point of view was initiated by the author around the beginning of this century. The last part of this volume contains an extensive and comprehensive survey of numerous important results on the geometry of warped product submanifolds done during this century by many geometers.
